A year after Nyx's first Hearth's Warming, she and her adoptive mother Twilight Sparkle are back in Canterlot to visit Twilight's parents... and, as Nyx learns, to take a tour of Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns on the teacher's workday after school has let out for the holiday.
Unfortunately for Nyx, not all the faculty is as good at teaching as Princess Celestia... or, for that matter, as good at not being a pest.
And why does Superintendent Spell Nexus, the pony who created Nyx with forbidden magic, keep turning up? (Well, besides the fact that he runs the school.)

Why wasn't the superintendent outright IMPRISONED for creating Nyx?

11462456 Because he did it while possessed by fragments of Nightmare Moon. He wasn't responsible for his own actions.
And, besides, ponies prefer reform and reconciliation over retribution.
It's all in the original Past Sins story. I re-read a good bit of it to nail down the characters (or try to) for this story.

A quick note: There's several spots in the latter half (when they meet Flamma Bill - Ha!) where Spell Nexus's name is mixed up as Spell Matrix a number of times. Thought you'd want to know! Thanks for the delightful story :D The humor was great and I agree with your decision to change the direction a bit by the time they got to Flamma! And the ending was very wholesome! Wow. It's been a long time since I've read a Nyx story. Years. I wonder what percentage of the people on fimfiction these days were even in the fandom back when Past Sins was written. She was famous back in the day, but these days it would be very easy for somebody to not know who she is.
I like your characterization of Nyx. I didn't remember who Spell Nexus was until I was almost done with the story. Again, it's been a long time.
