I've just never liked them as a couple. I don't have a reason for it at all. It might just be some part of me being contrary to some widely accepted norm for whatever reason but I don't mind many other ships that would fall in to that category across any of the fandoms I follow unless I have some preferred reason for it.
Tragedy is the normal exception for this pair. If I'm reading the emotional turmoil of a lost love between the two I'm a bit more inclined to follow through with reading it. But that mostly adheres to me being a sucker for tragic romance and I'll eat that up almost regardless of the pairing assuming I can get at all invested.
For this story in specific I was drawn to it because I currently have my mature tag off so I knew it couldn't get too weird and the length felt right for giving it a try. Lyra's supposed fascination with humans leading to other kinks/fetishes seems perfectly natural to me. So when I say "normal" I very much just meant shipping them as an actual couple as opposed to what I have done with them in the past.

Above reading or writing I enjoy the discussions stories can bring about. If I take the time to read something I'll usually have something to say and I'm always delighted when it brings about a discussion no matter how brief or uneventful it turns out to be.
