King of Madness

If I eat myself, will I disappear or grow twice my size? - Ouroboros

T

Fluttershy has always been afraid of the Everfree Forest at the best of times, let alone in the dark of the night; yet this didn't stop her from making her home so close to it in case any nearby animals needed her help. When she hears the sounds of a hurt animal coming from the forest so late at night, her fear again would not stop her from helping the poor thing.

Then the singing starts.

It sounded unnatural; almost synthetic.

Honestly this was the point that Fluttershy's instincts should have been screaming warnings.

Of course if she did meet this thing, and it was dying, their meeting probably would have played out differently, knowing my little pony.

She probably wouldn't have been on guard when it tried to eat her. Either way, I'm glad Fluttershy escaped a horrible demise.

What was the inspiration for this? The way the monster lures victims in sounds really familiar.

Creepy! Hints at what the creature is without revealing it is haunting, and voice mimicry will always be one of the scariest abilities horror entities can do. A fun read.

Her instincts were screaming warnings, but her compassion won out. Seemed like how Fluttershy would proceed.

Well, the story was pretty on the spot, but I think the Voicetaker was inspired by the creatures in the stories, Don't Open the Door (for the voice mimicry) and Scared in a Normal Cave (for the fact it's never seen or detailed).

Glad you liked it.

Sounds like it was inspired by SCP-939

League of Legends Fiddlesticks rework does this... And more. Spoopy indeed.

I found it,

I used this to guide me through the singing bits, when I recorded reading this for the audiobook version.
Quite Hyped, this could be a really good audiobook.

This story was AMAZING to read! I loved the aspect that this, thing, in the Everfree Forest mimics voices to lure in it's victims, then brings them into a seemingly underground void of endless bones. It reminds me a bit of Gigantamax Gengar from the Pokemon Franchise, where it replicates the voice of dead relatives, trying to get people to walk into it's huge ass mouth, which is a direct pathway to the afterlife.

Spoiler Warning From This Point Forward!!!

I also love the fact that one of the only reasons Fluttershy survives here is because of her will to protect her friends, which is completely accurate! (At least, if you've seen Dragonshy) And the fact that she wouldn't have survived if the Monster didn't screw up with that simple hit towards the tunnel is also fantastic to me!

I would love to do a reading of this someday if you're cool with that!

That is indeed the song; of course, the Voicetaker's singing becomes more unfocused near the end, but it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm really looking forward to it. :pinkiehappy:

So glad you enjoyed the story.

And I'd be honored if you did.

I'm so glad that fluttershy won tbh

Poor Fluttershy... I'm happy that she survived though. :yay:

Good story, mate. This gets a fave.

Part of it could be based on some animals ability to mimick sounds like birds, and some who use it lure like tigers.

This's really good, but we need to see the monster killed. Some monsters, you can tell everypony to stay away until the monster fades into myth. But since this one explicitly threatened rape, it has to die. Please kill it for us.
