Rarity is beautiful, elegant, talented. She has to be, to survive as Seneschal to her Dark Majesty. But now a newcomer arrives at the court of the Empress Nightmare Moon, and she threatens to unsettle everything Rarity has worked so hard to build.
Technically a sequel to The Empress and the Goose Girl, but works fine as a standalone if you don't want to read that. TW for some violence and blood, but it's not massively graphic. Written as a gift for the lovely Zontan, as part of an anthology.

Having read the previous story, I'm surprised to see this one end with a spot of hope yet uncrushed by NMM. I had assumed that she would have tracked Twilight and Rarity, and swiftly destroyed the hideout.

Was this version of NMM at all inspired by the infamous Count Dracula by Bram Stoker? Having picked through some of my favorite passages recently I now notice some similarities. Her infatuation with beautiful young mares, the poison of Sunlight (poor Fluttershy), the sense of entrapment, and of course the corrupting feeding that empowers her at the expense of her "prey".
I look forward to reading the next entry.

This was really good. I'm glad that rather than this being the timeline we saw in The Cutie Re-Mark, this goes backwards to give a long history to Nightmare Moon's reign, which was all fascinating. Even though this is about the length of the first story, this feels much more jam-packed. I bought that Twilight and Rarity would feel the need to protect one another even after so few interactions, and the sunlit town brings hope to fixing everything. I'm looking forward to the next part, whenever it may come.

Thank you! It's definitely still in the works but Ive been super busy with original fic this year and have only had time for pony one shots. The Farmer and he Fool should be out by the autumn though!
