Yep, one would need a wash after that type of a night. Interested to see what kind of armor comes out…
11351265 Not sure about the armor; yes its thick but its protection is focused on the front, leaving the back exposed(, in the movies at least, not sure about the book version). I would maybe go for legionaire-type of equipment. But guess we’ll see.
“If I must invite the mockery of my ancestors to keep you around”–Hoofstrong lamented, exhaling slowly. Brushing various tools and debris from a workbench, she’d turned her back to me–“so be it. You don’t fight like a minotaur, you don’t think like a minotaur, you don’t act like a minotaur.” There was a pause.
“But maybe you’re just what we need.”
That's very interesting on what she said. But it makes me guess that Minotaurs are very confident in their strength and why Hoofstrong seemed offended when Parting asked for armor. That is cool to expand on the culture of the Minotaur.
Now that I think about it, what is the background of Parting Blade before he came here. (We know his human name) It could be interesting to see what ideas he might introduce that could change the world. (Sorry for long comment :p, its just been a thought I had since reading this story)
“to wear more than the most basic of leather straps is to invite mockery for cowardice. It announces that one is afraid of being struck, or afraid of shedding blood to protect their claims. True minotaurs are supposed to move free of constraints, like the wind through the grass.”
“This tradition is longstanding and is and has always been part of our history
(Facepalm) Then I understand why your empire has fallen, the ponies are taking your lands and even the Diamond Dogs are bullying your people. Because you are morons.
11351353 Yeah even if they don't like it, they will have to adapt. Adapting and coming up with new stratagies will be their only way forward if they want to survive.
Hmmm, yes, yes, yes,no? Maybe..., yes. All is good in the rising Blade Kingdom. I just knew that it'd somehow relate to religion. I didn't even have to think about it, I just knew.
“This tradition is longstanding and is and has always been part of our history. No matter what part of the plains you grew up in, you should have known this.”
There is a time when all people have to grow up. The Minos will either grow up, or die.
Then I came to this line.
If Hoofstrong was going to bring this to blows, I wouldn’t strike back. But I still didn’t want to take a blacksmith’s hammer directly to the head
And I thought the exact same thing. Its time for him to grow up as well. Standing there like a fool while fifteen hundred pounds of muscled blacksmith is beating on you, is no different, stupid and backward than the Minos traditional beliefs.
Times have changed and unless all of them grow up and adapt to the times, none of them will prosper.

Just commenting to let you know I very much like this story and can’t wait to see more of it. Hope you don’t get writers block. I’m not good at writing, when an unfinished story leaves off on something I always say I want more but have next to no idea how I would write the next chapter. Hope you don’t get that problem. Also, he should totally start using the bodies of the dead dogs a fertilizer for crops if resources ever become a problem in the place.
1135135311351405 It's not the product of being morons, but the product of peace. The notion that a samurai should fight in an even and honorable manner, for example, was concocted during the Edo period, which was 200 years of peace. No such idea existed during the Sengoku, which was 150 years of near constant war, and samurai were expected to fight to win at all costs. Ambushes, backstabbing, poison, and bringing guns to a sword fight were not only expected, but encouraged. Complex rules around honor can only develop when there is an extended period of peace, and when those rules persist for a generation or more, they become part of identity and are not easily cast aside even if circumstances demand it.
Like us, Parting understands this, because like Parting, we are children of war. We may not understand the honor of the minotaur, but we do understand how to win a war.
If I could have armor it would be the Uruk-hai armor shield and sword from Lord of the Rings

This is good. He has learned the most important bit about fighting: there is no such thing as a fair fight, there are only winners and the dead.
Next up he needs to show them (and the enemies) this neat trick with saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal... it will blow them away.
Clearly the old traditions didnt work so well or current state of minator society wouldn't be in shambles

So far the way they act reminds me of Spartans with a tiny bit of super intense honor
What can I say that hasn't been said already... I like this story, please continue :)

All the quotes I share are from Authors from this site. I do it as a tribute to the great Authors here.
That one is from Knight Breeze's "Humanity Within Series", the third story, I think.
Here is a link to the first story in the series.
