This story is a sequel to Danganronpa: In Harmony's Wake

Wallflower Blush and fifteen others are isolated in a desert town to see if ponies and humans can get along. But when the place is suddenly overtaken by the malevolent Monohuman, Wallflower must survive the resulting killing game.

Thanks to the magnificent JCarp for hopping on board to make this sequel possible.

Note: this is a direct sequel to Danganronpa: In Harmony's Wake. While not strictly required reading, much of the context will be lost upon the reader should they fail to read it first. Therefore I highly encourage you to do so. However, I have also provided a set of cliff notes, located here.

Thanks yous for pre-reading go out to Sleepless Beholder, Da Otter Guy, and the spouses of both authors.

Cover Art uses artwork from The Sleepless Beholder. Thank you massively for your artistic contribution.

Well then, this was a "pleasant" surprise

it's pretty obvious Wallflower is the pony, so are Shy and Trixie. So yikes.

So excited for this sequel! :pinkiehappy:

Man, so many mysteries and questions for this already

11465166
and Sunset is the actual human implanted with some of pony Sunset's memories.

Oh boy, here we go again. Here's hoping my main gal can make it through this time. A fanboy can hope!

Whoa what the?! WHAT?! Okay, I didn't read this but I'm only commenting this from the art cover but....Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Uhhhh...What's going on?! Why is...Wallflower here?! I thought she was dead?!

11465169

I wouldn't be surprised if there's somehow time travel involved on top of that.

Noo! You monster! again? Your evil

11465321
Starlight's involved? What i don't get is Shy and Rarity's reaction to Sunset.

yes yes yes YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Oh man, I can't wait for whatever chaos you've created this time!

AAAAAAAAAAHH ITS HAPPENING!!

The mighty Dewdrop is back with more bombers. I haven’t read the story but I know it’s going to be fantastic.

Thank you sooo much for sharing with us your amazing writing and ideas!

Oh boy, your first story was great so this sequel is bound to be good. We have another interesting group together, and we already have a few questions that we will hopefully learn the answers to eventually. Probably the biggest surprise though is Wallflower Blush being the main protagonist instead of Sunset Shimmer.

What a nice way to start the new year. A killing game is always a fun time! And how nice this one is looking, with some interesting mysteries and a cast that is sure to be entertaining.
I wonder just how much the memories of others have been messed with, and the fact that everyone got a counterpart will surely end up being spicy.

This is going to be interesting. Several known dead people running about, plus one I know nothing about (Vignette).

Locked in and ready to read. Welcome back, Dewdrops!

Okay...I read this and I'm gonna be giving my thoughts on theories that is far-fetched and no evidence to back up but it's to explain some context that I've read.

I'm suspicious of Pear Butter because for those who haven't read the last story when Apple Bloom died, she mentioned how she's gonna meet her parents meaning the human versions are gone from this world. And I doubt the pony version of her is still around at all...so who is she really and why does Big Mac seem fine around her?

As for who's controlling MonoHuman...I don't know if the mastermind snuck into the site and hiding behind the scenes or one of the participants but I'm gonna go on a limb but I want to say it might be Chancellor Neighsay. And I mean the human version. Think about it...

Even for a short few sentences, MonoHuman seems to hate ponies like the protectors and discriminates them or any possibility of them being a part of society. Neighsay was the exact same in his pony self that discriminated the Young Six for being different species and went as far as locking them up and tried to take over Twilight's school when she and her friends weren't around so that's my theories.

This is just my theory of what I think of. I'm not saying I'm wrong.

Oh and when protesters were brought up, I thought that now a cult organization similar to Ultimate Despair now came to existence and are behind the scenes.

Oh, boy, here we go again! :twilightoops:

From what I could gather from this chapter, Princess Twilight and Sunset set up a voluntary program where a group of ponies from Equestria would come to the human world and live amongst a group of humans in a closed off area, so they can show the world that the two species can coexist in harmony. :raritywink: Unfortunately, a human who is anti pony, has somehow taken control and turned this into a game of death, one that poor Sunset is all too familiar with.

I’m going to make assumptions on who’s who:

Humans:
Cranky Doodle
Vignette Valencia
Sour Sweet
Juniper Montage

Ponies:
Cheese Sandwich
Zephyr Breeze
Autumn Blaze
Shining Armor
Fluttershy - because we know human Flutters was killed in the last story
Trixie - human counterpart killed in same story
Rarity - she seems to be avoiding Sunset, whereas human Rarity is in a relationship with Sunset. Does pony Rarity know they are together, and that’s why she’s keeping herself distant?

Come to think of it, did Princess Twilight ever tell her friends about what happened to most of their human counterparts?)

???:
Derpy - :derpytongue2:
Big Mac -
(These two seem to have the mannerisms as both human and pony, so there’s no telling which is which right off the bat)
Pear Butter - I looked back in the previous story, where Apple Bloom was dying, and she said she was going to see her Dad and Mom again, indicating that they are dead, as are their pony counterparts. So, who or what is she?
Sunset Shimmer - I believe this is pony Sunset (the one we know and love), because she obviously has memories of the events in the previous story. Her arm must have been restored with magic somehow.
Wallflower Blush - I’m not sure that this is pony Wallflower, because, in this chapter, it says that she knows some of the girls from high school. But human Wallflower was the first to be killed. I’m thinking she’s resurrected somehow.

Those are my guesses, we’ll see how accurate I am in the chapters to come.

Great start, Dewdrops! Both dreading and looking forward to how this plays out.

Lots to unpack here from this interesting little prologue. Yes, there are a lot of questions related to how exactly everybody got here in the state they're in, but the show itself plus the previous story include myriad answers. Memory magic, body swapping via potions, time travel, an actual afterlife in conjunction with necromancy, etc. The real question is: who is the mastermind this time? I had the same idea as Max 11465814, in that Neighsay's human counterpart makes the most sense to me. Pony Neighsay's whole deal as an antagonist was his xenophobia, and while he ended up reformed, we've already established with the likes of Spoiled Rich that the humans can be far worse in their actions. I could easily see him twisting Sunset's project involving old friends and new into its inverse.

But all this comes later. For now, let's hope poor Sunset doesn't go mad and take everyone else with her.

Aw nice, now this is what I call a new year's gift! Can't wait to start playing along and trying to unravel stuff. Lot of difficult people in this group, enough that Motive 1 can just be the irritation of living with them. I don't trust Pear Butter, both versions of her are supposed to be dead. But Big Mac either corroborating or playing along makes things more complicated.

Well this is a pleasant surprise, I'm excited to see where the story goes this time.

And oh look, there's my favorite Shadowbolt! Let's hope she doesn't die immediately.

Time to hop on the ride!
The fact that they have doubles over the mirror makes this even more exciting!
Time for the good old mystery awesomeness from you!
And this time, I am not missing out on the debate.:raritystarry:

A sequel, I didn't expect it, but a welcome surprise. Added it to the Despair Academy Group. I hope that it will inspire more MLP DR crossovers.

I think it may be human shining armor that is there, supplanting the pony and is the Anti pony.

Wow, there are fewer ponies than I guessed last chapter.

I still think that Sunset Shimmer, Rarity, Fluttershy and Trixie are ponies for sure. Possibly Zephyr, too.

Poor Sunset. She definitely needs a hug… which Rarity doesn’t want to give her. :duck:

I guess this Shining Armor is the human one, but he doesn’t seem to have some of his memories, specifically those that he had about the first Danganronpa.

Well, the game has begun. Wonder whose going to kill who first.

Six out of sixteen... more humans than ponies, but how to tell which one's what?

I look forward to attempting to find out.

Seems to me Sunset is, due to Monohuman's statements. Then again, I could be wrong.

Welcome back, Dewdrops.

Loved Vignette's moment. And she was technically right about her phone.

It's only the prologue and I'm already loving this. 😁
For what its worth, I think the biggest crime is Harmony's Wake never made the front page.

I love Cranky. I hope he lives for a while.

Well the rules are certainly interesting here. There is a clear prejudice against the Equestrian participants, where if you kill an Equestrian you are instantly safe without a Trial, or if they are all killed the game ends. That could be interesting if we see someone become safe because of this.

I really love Derpy, but I have a bad feeling she isn't going to be safe. Vignette certainly had a great moment telling off Monohuman and getting away with it. I am personally interested to see what role Sour Sweet will have. She seems like she could make a good antagonist, but Diamond Tiara seemed that way in the original too before she changed roles.

A lot of these fake Ultimate titles are pretty insulting, but I think Pear Butter's is the most interesting. There's got to be a reason behind it.

It is going to be interesting having Wallflower as the main protagonist this time.

Aside from the main changes, one interesting thing I noticed about the rules this time around is that there's no requirement to create a 'compelling mystery'. Someone could just stab somebody in the middle of the night and leave the knife in their chest, without even bothering to obfuscate anything else. Also interestingly, if one of the Pure Blackends is an Equestrian, Monohuman would have no way of knowing they were, and thus use them as an example of how 'evil' ponies are. Which I figure would be half the point of the game. Hmm.

The other major revelation here is regarding Sunset. Namely, that she seems to have been in a relationship with Wallflower, one the latter doesn't remember. Based on this, plus what we already saw from the first half of the prologue, I now believe Sunset is a human, and that she'd been spending the past few years in Equestria dating pony Wallflower. She was just implanted with many of pony Sunset's memories. Pony Sunset never dated Wallflower, otherwise she surely would have mentioned it at some point during the first game. Afterwards, she married Rarity, and would probably be too off-put to date the counterpart of one of her dead friends as a side thing.

Aaaaand I'm already suspicious of Sunset. She's giving off major "I know more of what's going on than I'm letting on" vibes and I'm not referring to the previous story. I suppose we'll see.

I'm also curious if we'll see any story outside this compound. For something like this to get set up, a lot more people and ponies would need to be involved. How good was Monohuman at coving all of its tracks?

Aw, already a murder, though we don't know if it was real or not.

And we're off! I'm morbidly looking forward to more!

First Off I love your stories! I met you through the fort Super Danganronpa and I loved it and recently got around to read Star Trek: Phoenix and loved it as well (didn’t comment because I download it to read in my kindle, but I loved every word of it). I am excited to read it, though the change in Protagonist/POV makes me nervous for obvious reasons.

I’m afraid of Sunset’s fate because she was my favorite in the other story and if you dare kill her I’ll scream at you through the screen because how dare you make her survive the first game to die in a horribly imitation of it later!

Ahem, after that rant, I’m excited to see how things go after this, and I have some theories about this one! Also, please don’t break up P!Sunset and H!Rarity because I loved their relationship and is very rare to have such a good rare pair be endgame in a great story.

Cranky being cranky is the best and I am hoping that he sticks cause just his attitude will make everything much more fun (he feels like Tiara 2.0 and I love it.) Also, I am curious to see how a Pure Blackened would be like if they just walk away free!

Anyway, I actually had a pretty big theory that I created Right Now: This Sunset is actually the human one but with the Pony version memories: Hence, the arm, and this Rarity is actually the Human one that remembers Pony!Sunset, so she doesn’t want to betray her with the Human one, which makes the married line sense, as she is indeed married to Sunset. Maybe someone thinks Sunset is a Pony, kills her but becomes a Grey Blackened instead of a Pure One, Plot Twist!

Also, something else: HOW THE HELL DOES Pony!Wallflower remember the Memory Stone???!! That makes me suspicious that she actually got Human Wallflower memories before the game started, and that there is something much more fishy here than just the Killing Game

We know the mastermind cheats as necessary to get the result they want, so i'm going to go out on a limb and predict that whoever dies is going to shockingly turn out to be a human. I do have a question though - wouldn't the ponies be liable to out themselves by slipping up with an "everypony?"

As for the first victim, I tihnk it has to be Pear Butter, because the ultimate therapist seems like the biggest blow to their stability. Still don't know how she's alive, though

I love the new rules to and I do find sunset sus at the end there.hope she doesn’t kicked the bucket by suicide

Oh my goodness, this is really awesome!
The new rules really spices things up, and it means that things will be even darker than the first one.

If you want my opinion on the matter about who is behind the monohuman?
It’s human Sunset Shimmer. Seriously, I loved your first story, but how Cozy Glow was kind of wedged in there was a little weird. I think that it is better when we know all of our characters in Danganronpa and not introduce new ones in the end. This is a pony fiction, but the mystery is Danganronpa style. If you remember me from the last story’s comment, you already know what do I think about this, and if you have something spicier in mind then you can go for it. But here is just my thought.

Vignette Valencia is really a doozy! I love it when she make those remarks of monohuman like she doesn’t care. I wish to see more of her in the future. Also, Cranky Doodle is pretty cool, too. I hope he at least lives for a while.
And I don’t know if I have said it before, but please don’t make Rarity kill. First because she is just so lovely in the first story with Sunset Shimmer, second because I am certain that she will get skinned if that happens. I don’t know if my eyes could handle that.

Here’s a fun thing when I read this chapter. When I finished it and try to think about stuff, I suddenly couldn’t remember what Shining Armor’s nickname from monohuman was. I thought that he was a pretty cool guy, what could Monohuman make of it? Then I looked back and saw that he was the Ultimate Second Best… man, I couldn’t even remember that, doesn’t it mean that he is literally “second best” to me? Just couldn’t remember his title like how monohuman doesn’t care about his name? Wow.

Anywho, this monohuman is really a crazy one! He reminds me of what a typical demon, and even though sometimes I have a hard time figuring out their current appearance, he reminds me of this guy:i.postimg.cc/B63gQ2hP/CF28-D324-62-DE-41-BF-B33-A-E4-AA215-C53-AE.jpg but with black and white like monokuma.

Wallflower doesn’t look like the type to play as Sunset Shimmer in this story, because she has social anxiety and probably couldn’t debate (for now). But according to what she did at last, I can tell that her observation on the surroundings will do some excellent detective work.

Anyway…The game has started! Let’s rock!

Someone else speculated this, but I'm betting on Sunset being the human version. Somehow, she has pony Sunset's memories which is why she keeps checking her arm to make sure it's there. She's the early red herring.

Ah, man, I'm really liking crotchety Cranky. Which probably means he's going to die soon.

No sign of Trixie, which could also be a bad sign.

And now we have confirmation that Pear Butter and Wallflower know more than what they are letting on. The unknown know-it-alls keep piling up!

Given what I've seen so far, I'm going to guess Zephyr Breeze will be involved in the first murder. Whether he's the murderer or the murderee is left to be seen.

11465851
Fluttershy, Trixie and Wallflower could be ponies. Sunset might be a red herring. so who the other 3?

It seems the narration is trying to make it a little obvious that Sunset is the same one from the last story, but maybe a little too obvious. When even the characters are commenting on how she is "clearly" an Equestrian, that makes me think that she is set up to be a Red Herring, no matter how unlikely it might initially seem.

It seems like this group is having a bit more trouble getting along than the first one, and a lot more trust issues. They have established a curfew like usual for these games, but the discussion of why having guards wouldn't work was a good touch.

“And we have soooo much in common! We’re nice!” Sour Sweet’s face fell. “I’m so nice I forgave how much of a cheater you were at the Friendship Games…”

Fluttershy tittered. “Now now, Sour Sweet, that was ages ago. You’re not still mad about that, are you?”

Sour Sweet rolled her eyes. “Nooo… guess not.”

Unless something different happened in this continuity, either Sour Sweet is remembering that event wrong or she is just a sore loser, since Fluttershy never used her magic during the games.

“Great!” Zephyr flashed his fingers at Shining. “I won’t let you down, Shiny Hiney.”

“...don’t call me that. Ever.”

Yeah, not Zephyr's best nickname ever. Though Shining's reaction was funny.

The first day has begun!
According to this chapter, everyone’s memories are getting messed up in different ways, and probably have extra memories than they are supposed to have. Trixie is nowhere to be seen for now, probably is hiding like Wallflower in the first game. And people from all walks of life are doing this in different ways, that is pretty interesting, after all this time they crossed two age groups which see things differently because of experience.
Vignette Valencia and Cranky Doodle are both very interesting characters. I am liking their little remarks, but reminds me of the ultimate gambler a bit because of their perspective of things.
Also, not to be a nerd, but I spotted something …

As we stepped into the Mess Hall, I saw someone had laid out a buffet table of goodies, with a sign reading, “Courtesy of Monohuman!” But my eyes were especially drawn to one of the nearby tables, where Sunset sat, glowering down at a plate of food. Shining Armor, Juniper Blush, and Autumn Blaze glanced her way, looking concerned, irritated, and frightened in turn.

Did you just put Juniper Montage and Wallflower Blush in the same name?
I still think that human Sunset Shimmer is behind all of this, and someone (other than Sunset) has been spreading information about stuff.

My hands were cold without hers in them. Empty. I felt an instinct well up inside me, and I couldn’t help it. I grabbed her hands back. “...It’s okay. I don’t mind.”

Sunset gets all the ladies.

#2: Any food taken from the pantry that was not part of Monohuman’s breakfast preparations must be consumed in full if opened. No snacking and putting things back!

Question, what is the definition of "consume" here? Because it can mean "eat" but also "use up." So for instance, if someone took some potato chips, painted them the color of the ground, and used them as a false floor for a pitfall trap, would that count as "consumed" because they were used for something, and can't be re-used for it? Or would you still have to eat them? I got into Taskmaster in between your fic's, and they always indulge the contestants who drill down into the wording of the task in search of a loophole.

11478851
If it isn’t clear, then they can interpret it as the loosest one because it is beneficial. But the situation you talked about probably isn’t important because that rule is most likely to prevent pre-established food poisoning. I understand it as they can use it however they like as long as they don’t put it back in the pantry (or according to the other rule, make a mess and not clean up).

The thing that bothers me so much about Rarity so far is the fact that it should be perfectly obvious to everyone that any inconsistencies in relationships could simply be the result of one or the other person being from the other side of the portal. Rarity should especially be aware that everyone has a human/pony counterpart, but her reaction to Sunset behaving more touchy-feely than she is used to is to say that she "needs help"? There's got to be something going on here, more than just her losing her memories.

Also, who else thinks that Cranky is going to get killed, but the murderer won't get away with it because he's a donkey, not a "pony"? :rainbowlaugh:

You are right about Rarity and her response, but with Sunset being clingy I could imagine it happening. So I think Sunset's the one being changed more than the others.
And to the last thing you said: Not really, I think monohuman would play dirty but he made the rules pretty well, so in the rules he said "intruders" at first, and used "Equestrians" for all (I scanned the text before and I think that is true) of his speech later, which meant everyone who came from that portal no matter what species.
