Pretty natural flow of dialogue, a funny little motif, and concise. A harmless little piece to read, With constructed characters. Interesting use of Starlight 1st person

Starlight’s worst enemy is always herself, no matter which show season it happens to be.

Interesting use of Starlight 1st person

I've had so much fun doing the Dark Steel series in 1st person, I decided to give that a try here too.

Woot, a bkc story for the best duo! :trixieshiftright:
With a delicate balance between empathy and banter that highlights the genuine chemistry these two mares share. Good luck for the contest!

Okay this is kinda funny, glad to see another Starlight fic.

Short, sweet, and fun to read. :pinkiehappy:

You definitely capture empathetic Trixie - your best friend while explaining why, in no uncertain terms, you are a moron.

I love this. You captured Trixie's abrasive nature and Starlight's self loathing perfectly. :pinkiehappy:

A bit surprised Trixie was actually good at this, but you did it believably enough that it never felt too out of character. Well done!

Thanks for the positive comment.

When I started writing, I actually wanted to focus more on Starlight. But somehow Trixie ended up doing the majority of the talking. Another example of my limited control over where a story takes me.

I get that.

If you have a idea, you need to go where it takes you, because the hardest thing in the world is to force ideas to come to you.

I actually think you did a really good job showing Starlight's mindset, even without talking though.

If anything, I felt her depiction was as strong as Trixie's, if not stronger.

Very cool that you picked that up despite how little dialogue she had. Sometimes less really is more.

Sometimes less really is more.

I was thinking more or less the same thing.

Sometimes letting the characters and the audience breathe is the right way to handle things.

"Shut up and be happy."
~Trixie

Trixie could be a good element of Honesty.

Brutal honesty is still honesty, isn't it?

Quite a good short story.

Featuring Trixie telling Starlight to stop being an idiot.

Trixie became a counselor for a reason. She's actually very good at this sort of thing when she can put her ego aside. The trick is getting her to manage that; it's a heavy load to shift, after all. :raritywink:

Lovely bit of Startrix friendshipping. Thank you for it and best of luck in the judging.

Trixie became a counselor for a reason.

That's an excellent point. I didn't actually remember/consider her getting that job at the school when I though up this story. But it's so obvious in hindsight... :facehoof:

She sighed with a soft smile. "The Great and Powerful Trixie's performances are dependent on her ability to read the audience. Do they enjoy the illusions, laugh at the jokes, engage with the patter? Right now, your body language is screaming that you have something to say. Trixie will wait patiently until you are ready."

do love how smugly Trixie this is

Stop,” she spat out. “Trixie is so tired of that. If you whine about your village one more time Trixie shall cast a mute spell on you until you apologize.”

“I can’t apologize if I’m mute.”

“See? Trixie’s plan is foolproof.”

hehehe, that is fun!

She shrugged. “Trixie is well-read and knows a plethora of pretentious locutions.”

this makes me think of SparklingTwilight's Trixie, funnily enough

“They're only my friends because Twilight forced them. None of them would have reached out to me otherwise.

aww yeah, understandable for Starlight to be so insecure about this!

“Of course you’ve changed. You even have a different mane-cut. If that doesn’t prove you’ve reformed, I don’t know what would.” I couldn’t suppress a small snicker.

ehehe, so true! what else could explain the change in mane? though i wonder what that says about Trixie's lack of a different manecut

“That said, Trixie knows these ponies. With the possible exception of that unicorn fashionista, none of them could put on a convincing performance of friendship. Trixie does not believe they are the problem here."

aww, i do not understand why Rarity is the exception here, but i love that

Although, Trixie is hard pressed to understand what is interesting about rocks.”

Trixie is just a fillystine who doesn't even appreciate the joys of working on a rock farm!

“Exactly!” She exclaimed with a laugh. "Believe Trixie when she says that she knows how hard friendship can be. The path is full of pitfalls and traps. Sometimes the path disappears entirely and you must rely solely on your instincts to find your way." She rested her hoof on mine. "But it's worth it."

aww, Trixie really is living up to her Guidance Counselor role here!

a very sweet StarTrix friendshipping! Trixie is the perfect balance of aggravatingly smug and genuinely trying to be a good and helpful friend. thank you for it!

...i do not understand why Rarity is the exception here...

I think her behavior in episodes like Sweet and Elite (S02E09) show her as best able to "play the game" out of the mane-6. I'm not saying she would, but she is more than able to fake a friendship. She is also willing and able to take advantage of a friendship, for example with Spike in Secret of My Excess (S02E10). Trixie is correct. Rarity could pull off such a performance.
