Snow Quill

Just a bat, sometimes writes, sometimes draws

E

It’s a mystery to most how Maud and Rarity got together, even more so what the outspoken and sometimes dramatic fashion diva sees in a plain, quiet mare with a Rocktorate.

To Rarity, Maud is a steady comfort, the unmovable object to her unstoppable force, the one who keeps her grounded and steady.

To Maud, Rarity is a gem worth considering and protecting.

That was a lovely story. I like that it ended with Maud feeling she doesn't have to be alone anymore

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it

This was lovely! It was really nice to see Maud's view of Rarity and how Rarity is able to appreciate her.

That was, of course, until Rarity. Rarity, who could glance at a precious gem and intimately know all its flaws and qualities. Rarity, whose attention to detail meant every piece of fabric graced by her hoof was made into an absolutely, meticulously perfect dress. Rarity, who loved social gatherings just as much as a quiet evening, humming along to her sewing machine and simply living in the moment.

auauagh the thought of Rarity's keen perception of finer details being what allows her to see into Maud the way that most ponies can't is just so wonderful and i love it

It dipped down a bit, with delicate arches forming lashes that framed the lines that became her eyes, the pen pausing on the page as Maud regretted the ink that was black instead of blue.

such a shame to not be able to properly render that lovely blue! i would regret that as well

And finally, the pen rose once more to bring to view soft looking ears that heard nearly everything and enjoyed being nuzzled.

aww, such a cute little detail!

It was strange to think that a simple drawing, a collection of lines on a page, could create such feelings.

i, too, feel such things when looking at drawings of Rarity

Her lips twitched into a small frown. No, Rarity wasn’t a shining star, if anything she would be a gem. Of course, she was more than a collection of minerals brought together by specific conditions to create an objectively pretty rock, but it was interesting to consider.

Maud slowly blinked as the blush from earlier crept along her cheeks. She liked practical, strong things.

it's just so very Maud to note how silly poetic metaphor is, and then proceed to do it anyway in her own way, and be moved by it

Rarity giggled at the deadpan delivery, knowing better than to let Maud’s tone lessen the impact of her words. “Oh darling, you truly know how to make a mare feel special.”

aaaaaa such a perfectly Rarity response

The hitch in Maud’s breath was almost imperceivable, but Rarity was listening for it. She smiled and leaned over to kiss the stoic earth pony.

and bringing it back to the earlier phrase of "soft looking ears that heard everything", and just how special and wonderful it is that Rarity can appreciate and understand Maud because she can notice these small things, augh. perfection

I like to study the rocks in the dirt,

You came along and helped heal the hurt.

You polished my heart into a gem from stone,

And now I never again have to be alone.

and i absolutely adore this! the poems are such a great way to bookend this piece. i can just hear Maud reading them in her deadpan voice, deeply meaning every word. augh. perfect.

And have some cute Rarimaud art!

and this is just so damn cute augh, it makes me tear up! i love it so much, thank you!

A strong argument for a most unexpected pairing. I do love how Rarity inspires Maud to write something more lyrical poetry than her usual free verse, and seeing her revise her metaphor until it both perfectly captured Rarity and was acceptably mineralogical? Lovely work. Thank you for this, and best of luck in the judging.

Greetings. Your reading has been completed and can be found below. I hope you enjoy.

Hello! Have a review. I'm not a big shipfic fan, but I really liked how you made RariMaud seem so natural. Have a like and a fave, and well done on the Bronze Medal!
