I am not sure who Short Sight should fear more. Sure, Sonata is a former giant sea monster with a surprising amount of creativity, BUT Short Sight took a knife to a Rarity dress deliberately while Sunset was still wearing it! When Rarity learns of this, angry sea monsters will seem like the safe choice.

Even without yet reading the story, If I was Sunset i'd be picking up a phone and dialing a certain number and being like "yes police? I was just assaulted by a psycho with a knife.. No I am unharmed aside my dress which he cut to shread, yes I would like to press charges...no he's not here at the moment he took off but if you come to CHS you can get the information you need"

A knife taken to clothes – while those clothes are still attached to a person – is not only bad, it's dangerous… pretty sure their actions amount to violent assault at the very least.
The smooches at the end came out of nowhere and gave me some real mood whiplash. If your exposition has to announce "here starts the flashback, and here's where we're not flashbacking anymore" (while still having a few interleaved 'haps in the now'), your exposition needs some work.
