T

Having taken the exact same train journey to his office job for ten years in a row a middle aged stallion begins to wonder about some of the trains more unusual and interesting passengers.

One day he decides to follow one out of curiosity, leading him on a wild goose chase, pursuing any and every strange pony or occurrence from the train, eventually leading to him losing his job, with his old life crumbling down around him in this endless pursuit of the odd and fantastical mundanities of the train and it occupants.

With a yearly train pass in hoof he then decides to devote the rest of his life to any little whimsy or intrigue that might befall him, chasing after the oddest and simplest curiosities with great passion, as might a care free foal.

interesting, what got you the idea?

I’m planning on making a blog post on the story after I’ve written a few more chapters and we reach a certain climax in the story where I’ll explain everything.

A bit too long to include all in one comment unfortunately.

A wild Alondro appears...

"This post is relevant to my interests..."

Already thought out the basic premise for the next chapter. I’m hoping to start with that later today or first thing tomorrow.

It’s equally as weird as this one, if not weirder, ha ha.

13 hours and so many stations for the loop?

Reminds me of Preston to Carlile via Ravenglass and Hellifield?

A very strange route to take, and would be very intresting to see it as a tourist option. :pinkiegasp:

11132243
That’s just over 18 minutes on average between each station, although when you consider that Equestrian train technology is about 150 years behind ours, and that these stations aren’t between any major cities but mostly consist of small towns, villages and the countryside 13 hours all in for 43 stations is admittedly quite a short amount of time relatively speaking.

Look at how small Ponyville is, yet they get their own station. I think Equestria is a lot more liberal with where they put their stations than we are. Given that we know that trains have been around for at least as long as when the The Crystal Empire disappeared which itself is quite ancient, ponies have simply had a lot of time to build up their train network over the course of the centuries.

I have no idea how I get these ideas though, ha ha.

The Sir David Attenborough productions have How they Did It sections after the main program that show how they staged several occurances just so they could show the event at all?

11134429
I’ve loved anything that Attenborough has made, although I honestly didn’t know that that was the case.

That being said I’m not too bothered about it so long as their honest. I can see how a lot of those wildlife scenes would be near impossible to capture by chance.

another good chapter!

I know the town thing reminds me of a certain Japanese/Ghibi? animation, but cant remember its name. More than one movie? or episodes in a TV series? Something about a coat and a motorbike?

A small platform in the middle of nowhere served by a sparse service and with a path leading nowhere into the mountains? Sounds like the Heart Of Wales line?:trixieshiftright:

11139419
A Ghibi like setting did actually come to mind when I was writing the story’s second chapter, but this town isn’t specifically based on anything, although I do get a slightly oriental feel from it. I just close my eyes and I see the town written here. As with a lot of my ideas I don’t know where it comes from, I just describe what my unconscious comes up with.

>Heart Of Wales line
I wasn’t aware of that line either, although some pictures of it that I looked up did look interesting, specifically the scenery, but the bridge was also really cool.

Hopefully his escape was the pebble that changed the avalanche of the region from so much death and destruction.

And so Alondro was 22 minutes late the next day. But then he drew up a quantum mechanical equation proving that the rest of the universe had simply accelerated entropy relative to his existence, and the boss' brain exploded.

:trollestia:

Finally leaving the noisy streets the little tabby ran off into a narrow alleyway, which was noticeably dark despite it being little over an hour past lux prima, or first light.

He emerged at the Cat Bureau, where he became entwined in a ploy to rescue a young girl from the King of Cats, who sounded suspiciously like the evil clown-spider, Pennywise.

:pinkiecrazy:

but their was a slime minority that to his eyes at least seemed fully operational

It was a fully operational minority slime...

>Cat Bureau
Ha ha, that does sound like a really interesting idea, although maybe just a bit too silly for me.

11146102
Yeah, I’ll need to fix that. One of my funnier mistakes anyway.

11134495 I just ask the animals to get in position, and they do it!

It's sometimes a little tough to get the deer to let the wolves and lions rip them apart... but a little push of psychic power and their wills collapse. Then I get what I want. :fluttershbad:

(Alondro is the terrifying leader of the Psycore!!) :pinkiegasp: (At least for today... who knows what delusions he'll be fostering on the morrow!) :pinkiecrazy:

So most of the cats became Pompeii... :fluttershbad:

11148641
>Then I get what I want. :fluttershbad:
Why would you want that :raritydespair:

11148649
Ha ha yeah, although I actually didn’t think about that until after I wrote it.

Needs income. Could publish books of short stories about the strange things discovered on trains?:trixieshiftright:

11148716
Don’t put weird ideas like that into my head unless you actually want them to happen, ha ha.

Slight spoiler for next chapter. The clock is going to be counting down from 137 days instead of going up, and I was kind of stuck puzzling over what the eventual climax could be. That’s certainly better than any idea I’ve had so far.

another nice chapter

He needs to find a hoofful of plucky kids and a dog. Or a small dragon will do, and start the tale of the building haunted by a pony dragon hybrid?

Call it Five in Kirin Lighthouse?:trixieshiftright:

11152892
I feel like this a reference to something that I should get and will once it’s explained, but I have no idea what it is right now.

11152897

The adventures of the Famous Five, by the author, Enid Blyton.

4 children, and a dog.:moustache:

11152969
Never heard of that one to be completely honest.

11152970

She is a childrens author from a few decades back, but I thought Id seen mention of the announcement of recent remakes? Streaming companies buying the rights to the stories to make shows?

11152971
I’ll have a little look into it. See if I can find a video or two to watch on it, like a review maybe.

And then a portal opens up and Rick and Morty fall through.

"Ohhh, oh gee-whizz Rick! It's one of those Pony worlds again!"

"OH F%^# NO! We are NOT going through that S^$T again! Magical mind-control? Mega-spells? That's a NOOOOOPE from me!"

Then they jumped back through the portal, leaving Positive absolute bewildered... though his instincts told him Twilight Sparkle was somehow to blame. :twilightoops:

:trollestia:

uh...did says updated but nothing?

We're never seeing another chapter, are we?

11652806

Well, maybe we will. You never know when authors might decide to come back and finish their stories....
