When did he give an indication he thought that was a bad thing? If anything Fluttershy did and that also came out of left field.
Since this is a no magic au I find this too much of a stretch. If doesn't feel like you are just toeing that line but jumping 50ft over it. If it was Pinkie doing her typical logic defying gags I would let it slide but not anyone else.

I really like the idea of this fanfic, similar to The Girls of My Life, but I hope it can have its differences.
I mean, in this version you could make Spike closer to the CMCs by being the same age.
Wow, just reading that, I already liked this version of Spike.
You could make chapters dedicated just to that, maybe a whole one of Spike playing some TCG or in an E-Sports competition or maybe winning a cosplay contest.
In the description you said that Spike would have rivals, the first that come to mind are Rumble and Button Mash, maybe he meets Button in a video game tournament and from there a friendly rivalry arises.
Anyway, i really wish you good luck with your story.

But, Freshman Blues is not my favourite of your storys, but dont get me wrong, it was a good story, but Spike was OP in that, with the parkour and dance skills, i prefer this version of Spike and the one of The Girls of My Life.
