That can very much be true, for the bigger castes at least.

Worker castes, for example, have rather thin chitin, only a centimetre or maybe a little more depending on how well they kept are fed, but once you get to the Soldier caste you're looking at an inch or more depending on how armoured they are.

As for a Queen? Well, that would all depend on the caste of Queen she is.

They are built rather tough compared to most other equines for sure, also when most stuff in your homeland is trying to kill you, it's good to have as many backups as you can, a broken leg bone is a real problem for a zebra or a pony but as long as the chitin is still intact (or indeed the reverse) a Changeling can still use the leg, it will hurt but most Changelings are used to a little pain.

Can't say I'm much of a fan of the bone thing. There's only so much you can get away with in regards to alien biology. I'm not a scientist by any means, but... the exoskeleton of an insect isn't called an exoskeleton for no reason, you know? That's like replacing your skin with another skeleton while keeping your old one which just seems a bit silly to me.

Then again... we are talking changelings here. If (and that's a pretty big if) there is just one species I could see developing such a trait purely for shapeshifting reasons, it's the changeling race. Heck, you could have made the argument of taking Chrysalis' origin story from the comics as an inspiration and I would have been a lot happier than that explanation you gave us.

 I can't guarantee I will get two chapters a week out every week, but I will do my best, and if it comes to that, I might do it as two smaller chapters rather than one big one.

Seriously, just take your time. There's a reason why I write my stories mostly in advance before publishing them, way less stress that way.

I mean, it makes sense and in canon it's a good enough origin but it kind of makes Chrysalis the Changeling Queen and I feel for fics like this where there are a lot of Queens it works better to have them be more of a "normal" species.

To be clear it's defiantly not a normal thing to have both, and irl it basically doesn't happen, not really anyway but there is definitely some magic going on there to make it work.

This chapter would have stood on its own as entirely its own story, completely unrelated to chapter one. If this had started with chapter 2 and I'd neve seen chapter 1 at all, I still would have read this story. Honestly, it's a much stronger chapter.

Yeah, the extra words ch2 got definitely made it better, I did a large amount of rewriting after ch1 was out and I agree it dose make for a better read.

In future I will try to give that amount of polish to all chapters, rather then just the basic edits I did with the first one.

ya'll got some run-on sentences here. Make sure that each thought is its own sentence and that they don't bleed into one another. There are probably 4 or 5 sentences here yet there is only a single period.

First chapter.

For some reason I had a strong feeling that shouldn’t leave it here, so I reached out with one of my new arms and grasped the stone in my odd hands. It was large, about twice the size of two bricks put together and about the same weight, its shape was an even ovel, looking at it in the light I could see it wasn’t entirely black but had flecks of colour on the inside.

Its still there. Fimfiction has been bugging out alot lately so you may have to click save and let it sit for a few minutes before it finally works. Alternatively clicking save, refreshing the page and then trying again also works most of the time.

I remember seeing some art of a 6 limbed Changeling a couple of years ago and since then I've always thought that if I made a fic I would incorporate that idea.

I've never seen the movie but that sounds about right.

I will see if I can find the artists name, obviously, their art is not exactly the same since I only pulled the arm idea from it, but maybe if they are still about I'll see if they do commissions, maybe.

Edit: Found them! I got the arm idea from TurnipStewdios on Deviantart but that is almost the only thing that is currently similar to their Changelings, my Changelings are more of a 50/50 mix of equine and bug rather than the 20/80 equine to bug that Turnip uses.

The Changelings dementra369 (also on Deviantart) has made are closer to how I imagine mine to look, just with wing shells and the extra limbs.

Cause MC just got a major leg up in terms of general knowledge of the area. While it's unfortunate the MC was discovered early and the drones that escaped are going to report about him, learning from Coreid's backstory shows there's probably nothing to worry about any time soon, seeing how what could be Chrysalis' or her ancestor's hive had won a devastating victory and weakened the Ochre hive's forces to not spare any to fight another hive, one they know nothing about.

But our MC will know plenty about them :}
