Hitch Trailblazer makes a Leap of Faith in the My Little Pony; A new Generation movie to go with Sunny Starscout and her new unicorn and pegisus pony friends to bring the magic back to Equestria after many centuries of absence. But his moment of joining with his foal-hood friend was not spontaneous, there was a moment where the seed of his belief in Sunny's dream had to come from. This is an idea of where it might have come from....

“Wait, Sunny, I’m confused.” Hitch cocked an eyebrow, trying to understand some aspect of the pony characters they portrayed. “If the princess has special powers to share the Magic of Friendship and she shares the magic with the uinicorns and the pegisus and the earth ponies together, shouldn’t all of them be able to fly? Unicorns don’t fly but having the Magic of Friendship can make them fly, right? So earth ponies should be able to fly too, if they have the same magic. If not, wouldn’t all of them fall out of the sky from the cloud they’re standing on?”

Oh yeah that's right I forgot about that back in season 8 finale when the magic started to disappeared and since have magic in the wing power wow that's actually pretty dark

Hitch got to his hooves once more. He had to get into town and assess what, if anything may have happened since setting out after Sunny earlier this week. He’d left Sprout temporarily in charge and who knew what kind of problem he might have gotten himself into.

Yeah hitch about that....

Ok wow I actually did want to know how he feels about this whole situation as well I also like him too he is a pretty cool guy but it is kind of sad that he can't give a proper answer to Sunny knowing that deep down he wanted to help to bring back the magic this was a pretty good story very sad one and we all know what's going to happen next but this was good keep up the good work

Me before seeing the movie: Meh, Hitch looks like your typical brainless, spineless male character that you see everywhere these days. Way too full of himself. Just there to make the other characters look better. He'll probably worship Sunny and be a total simp for her. He'll have a few funny moments, but his schtick will get old fast.

Me after seeing the movie: Casually jumps into the screen, scoops up Hitch, and walks away This is mine now.

Hitch is best pony.

Thanks for the kind words. I try to come up a with a good story for every pony to enjoy. The inspiration for this short story came right after viewing the movie the first time. I wanted Hitch and Sunny to have that moment between foal-hood friends and to get a possible glimpse into what might have inspired Hitch to make his leap of faith.

My theory about why Hitch joined is pretty close to yours: he'd secretly hoped that Sunny was right. He grew up around Sunny and her dad. Probably heard all of his stories. Argyle might have been a kind of father figure to Hitch, too.

I also had a random idea for what might have happened if Sunny didn't rescue Izzy from the trap.

Hitch questions her, and once he figures out she's harmless, he decides to just send her home. He probably keeps Izzy in custody until things calm down a little, but more to protect than punish her. The townsponies are all terrified and on edge. If he lets Izzy go right away, there's a good chance she gets hurt or worse.

Basically, he was never the Unicorn and Pegasi-hating type. He's very pragmatic and realistic, though. Even if he doesn't hate Unicorns and Pegasi, a lot of Earth Ponies do.

Hitch stopped, now out of sight of Sunny’s lighthouse and still too far from town for any pony to see, he could not hold back the storm of emotion in his heart he’d held with a vice-like grip of control that now simply crumbled away with a flood of tears, no matter how hard he tried to hold them back.

A single choked sob escaped his mouth, terrifying himself at how upset and unhappy he was at how this escapade had fizzled into nothing. He had to let it out; this horrible pain in his heart was going to drive him as crazy if he didn’t.

“Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!” Hitch roared as he furiously slammed his forehooves down against the road over and over again, sublimating his sadness into anger. He did this for a good minute or two, venting his anger like some spoiled little colt for being denied something he desired. Finally, Hitch stopped, panting hard from venting like he had. His head swam with dizziness, and he staggered back a few steps, his butt hitting the ground with a thump, exhausted.

Dude, were you watching me drive away from my ex-girlfriend's house for the last time, with all of my stuff in my car? :fluttershysad::unsuresweetie:

Cause that was what it was like when I was driving down the road. Driving away from my first long term girlfriend.
My girlfriend of 3 years and roughly 10 months.
Crying while driving ain't fun.

Last week would have been our 4th anniversary.

Man.
This fic went and reminded me of my ex-girlfriend.
Hearing/imagining/reading Sunny crying brokenly into Hitch's chest, made me re-hear my girlfriend's broken heartedly crying into my chest, over.... Well, it's something that hurts a mother, that's trying to expand, particularly hard.

REALLY felt the, "everyone experiences a particular work of fiction differently", with this one!:fluttershysad::ajsleepy:

Her watching the G5 movie with me, on Blepcon's Discord livestream, was the one big pony thing we did together. I relived the experience of the FiM episode release livestreams.

But, as quickly it returned, the glimmer faded away from his eyes. He was grown up now, the sheriff of Maretime Bay now, a pony of law and respected. It was facts, logic and reasoning that his mind used when confronted with conflict, not recounting fun little foal-hood stories about ancient lessons of friendship and ancient magic.

‘Just the facts, mare.’ was a catchphrase he often used when addressing a pony citizen that needed his help for some problem they had.

Cold hard logic.
The hardened armor and shield that many men (including myself) use to protect ourselves. Reinforced fortifications to take cover within.
I used it to shield and comfort my girlfriend when we were living in different cities, and she was going through a hard time.
A hard time related to the aforementioned reason for her crying.
I currently try to protect myself with it, but unfortunately, the squishy fleshy emotions inside, are frequently attacked through the gaps in the armor.

*sigh*:ajsleepy:
I miss the good times with my ex.:pinkiesad2:

I relate alot to the present Hitch.
I don't know what else to add.:ajsleepy:
Good writing.

Thank you for the kind words and comparison; I'm greatly humbled by the story touching you in personal way. This ending was very hard for me to write; I was crying just as hard as Hitch and Sunny were crying and this wasn't even the ending I'd originally written out for Hitch.

The original ending I'd written was for Hitch to go running back to his condo and, in feverish desperation not to succumb to the belief of magic NEVER returning to Equestria, tries on one last time the painted cardboard pegasus wings Sunny had made for him all those years ago when he was a colt. But when he tried to slip the wings on, the plastic band that held the wings to his torso breaks, and the wings fall to the floor. Hitch just stares at the broken plaything he'd secretly held onto for years and just loses it; completely breaks down sobbing, believing the magic was TRUELY gone now.

The broken wings were to symbolize the death of his youthful dream; the hope of magic returning that Sunny had instilled in him as well as his secret desire to fly like the birds. I'd given a first draft of the story to my artist friend to proofread and she came back in tears to me, saying I just HAD to change the ending; it was too sad and heartbreaking. So, I accommodated her and made it a little less sad.
This is why I like VERY MUCH that in the series Zipp and Hitch are getting a little closer as friends. I wish in episode 4 of the Make Your Mark series when Hitch and Sunny had their cutie marks switched, Hitch had gotten the chance to fly as an 'alicorn prince', even briefly, rather than him focusing on making fruit smoothies.
