Screaming at bread. I explore too many passions and devote too little to all of them.

E

A fun-filled day at Sunny’s is interrupted by a conundrum.

A short one-shot that gives the story of Hitch's motivation and promise that leads to him becoming sheriff. It takes place three to four years after the flashback scene in G5 where they are all kids.

Awww, this is so sweet and endearing. Nice story!

Me before seeing the movie: Eh, I get the feeling Hitch is going to be another Spike. A doormat who gets ragged on constantly and is way too full of himself. The typical idiot male character you see everywhere these days. He'll be a total wimp who can't stand up to Sunny. It's gonna get old fast.
Me after seeing the movie: Casually jumps into the screen, scoops up Hitch, and walks away. This is mine now.

Hitch is best pony.

Loved Hitch as well. My sweet little sheriff.

He was certain today's sleepover would go off without a hitch.

LOL.

Headcanon accepted!

“That filly of yours is even worse!” Phyllis said, “I bet she’s the one filling his head with these beliefs the most!”

Who the devil do you think you are lady 😡 saying that to a child like that not cool

Actually that would make sense why hitch became a sheriff in the first place not only protecting the ponies in this town but also protecting sunny from that crazy lady not only that poison the mind Sprouts which unfortunately it work to go against sunny and that's why he want to do this I like that but it's still sad to see Sunny's father slowly dying from the disease this was a pretty good story keep up the good work

To be fair, I can't really blame you for imagining him being that way before the movie released. Remember the first image they released of him? Look at that grin, just take a look at that absolute shit-eating grin.

Thank you for the encouragement and compliments.

a vary fun little story.

Ok this one actually made me cry a bit, so, great job!

“Adults are dumb, you’re a bright and joyful filly with amazing dreams of friendship,” Hitch reassured, “I’m honored to be your friend.”

My theory as to why Hitch so readily decided to help Sunny during the campfire scene: all along, he'd quietly hoped she was right. That's why he spent years helping her out when she got into trouble.

Still, Sunny's stunt at the Canterlogic show was a bridge too far, even for him. He definitely messed up when he told her those stories of pony unity were made up by her dad. It was cruel, and he knew it wasn't true. But it was a tense situation, and he lashed out in anger.

At the campfire, with a Unicorn and Pegasi there, he realized "This is the way."

“That filly of yours is even worse!” Phyllis said, “I bet she’s the one filling his head with these beliefs the most!”

“You’ve been a blight on our community for a while now, Argyle. I expected your daughter to, sadly, follow in your footsteps. I won’t let Sprout’s dreams and life be crushed by you and your daughter’s influence!” Phyllis yelled to him.

You made me DESPISE Phyllis.

I mean, I kind of already did, but this is her being an absolutely horrible pony. Going after a kid like that is WAY over the line. So is talking to Sunny's dad like that right in front of her

I´m not crying, I´m not crying... AH! It is so beautiful!:applecry:

This is a good story.

It's more my own headcanon on how Hitch ends up with the motivation to be sheriff. At least he doesn't appear to have it in the flashback compared to Sprout at least, but he does want to make Sunny happy and make sure they got along.

He tries to make peace between his friends in the flashback. Peace (with BOTH Freedom and Order) is the end goal of every lawman, although they also (at least in our world) know that sometimes the only thing that can prevent wrongdoing is violence. IIRC the movie doesn't indicate his hoof-to-hoof combat skills one way or the other (because: kids' show and no monstrous species), but I like to think he has trained himself in that direction. I can never remember the in-language name of it, but there is a martial art that tries to defeat without injuring whose name translates to "Way of Peace". That, at the very least, would suit him, even if one assumes he wouldn't go for bucking the sufficiently dangerous and intractable in the gut (let alone the trachea).
