Yas Marina 100 (Grid World Series) (GT Group 3)

As night falls onto the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, the crowd were getting ready for the 100 mile race that await the 26 GT3 cars and all of them were ready to tackle the lights of Abu Dhabi. Thousands of horsepower were about to be unleashed in a melody of excellence. It is… make or break time.

The green lights went on and Viral got the jump on Danger and took an early lead heading to turn one. Lara managed to overtake both Rusalka and Nathan at the same corner while Yume and Starlight were trading paint and positions at turn 2. Danger took Viral by surprise at turn 7 by making daring lunge but it resulted in minor cosmetic damage to both Ferraris. What Danger and Viral didn’t realise was that while they were batting for the lead, the Ravenwest Ferrari of Nathan McKane was trying to capitalize on any error the two Ferraris may inevitably make during the 29 laps of the race. Until he had puncture with threw him into exile

By turn 10, Oscura was up into 11^th place and decided to have a battle with Aria Blaze but she was having her own with Rainbow Dash. But with Danny in 12^th place after an overtake on Lightning Dust that made the fans wonder if Danny is the new Danger. Oscura tried to overtake Aria but she defended with ease before a touch of understeer handed 11^th to Oscura on a silver platter.

On lap 3, it was three wide going into turn 5 with Rusalka, Akula and Yume Tanaka as the three have been a battle since turn 16 on lap 2. At the hairpin, Yume made a similar lunge on Akula that Danger made on Viral on the first. The Seneca Mercedes AMG GT3s were seemed unstoppable down the straights until Yume mistakenly outbraked herself and because Akula had overtaken Rusalka at the hairpin, Akula used his skill to overtake Yume at turn 10.

Not much happened until on lap 6 when Shizuka Murayama had a paint trade with Amy MacAtilla and both spun out on turn 2 and while MacAtilla managed to get back on track, Shizuka wasn’t as lucky. As she tried to get back on track, she was hit from the rear from Nathalie Vogelstein and both cars were out of the race. Both Nathalie and Shizuka were okay but their cars need to be cleared in order fro the race to progress further.

The track was clear by lap 10 and because the field was bunched up, the top 10 before turn 8 was Lara, Danger, Viral, Starlight, Akula, Oscura, Rusalka, Yume, Rainbow and Aria as they entered the chicane. By lap 12, Danger had caught up with the Mercedes of Carvalho and with Viral closing in on the Ferrari with the iconic number 15 on the doors, if could be Danger’s chance to get his first win in the series or even Viral’s. The three battled through the turns exchaning positions through the chicanes in most cases. But then at turn 15 on lap 16, a puncture turned Lara’s victory hopes into disarray.

Starlight had inherited third place after Lara pitted for new tyres and with Akula and Oscura interlocked in a heated battle which sometimes resulted in Rusalka’s Porsche joining in the fray. But on lap 19, The brakes on Rainbow’s Aston Martin decided to cook themselves as she locked up heading to turn 8. It was evident that Rainbow would lose 8^th place as Yume Tanaka also pitted for new tyres after fears she may have a puncture. Beatrice was now in 9^th place and was being reeled in by Danny In his Ferrari.

By lap 21, not much had changed in terms of the top 10 as the remaining 24 cars were maintaining a steady pace for the remaining 9 laps. Until at turn 17 when driver error had plagued Sayori Spark’s Mercedes as she ploughed into the barrier rear first as she went too deep on the kerbing. She managed to show get the car back to the pits but the damaged was enough for her retire the car.

The pieces had cleared as it wasn’t enough for the Full Course Yellow. Before Sayori crashed, Oscura overtook Akula at turn 1 as she started her 22^nd lap. But after turn 17 was now suitable for overtaking, Akula retook 4^th after a lock-up from Oscura. Danger meanwhile, had increased his gap ahead of Viral to 2.2 seconds and with Starlight getting closer and closer to the #24 Ferrari, it felt like smooth sailing for the British Speedfreak.

The battle still continued on lap 25 between Akula and Oscura as both black and red Ferraris were causing the fans to go mad with celebration as often tried to overtake each other through turns 15 to 21. In the end, it would be Oscura that would triumph in the battle as Akula went wide into turn 1 and with Rusalka right behind, Akula now had to play defensive as Oscura sped away.

On the final lap of the race, Starlight was still right on Viral’s tail in final few corners and as Danger crossed the line to win the race, Starlight made a lunge on Viral at turn 21, but was unsuccessful and that meant that Starlight had to settle for 3^rd. Oscura came 4^th and Akula 5^th defending from Rusalka. Aria, Beatrice, Danny and Rainbow would complete the top 10.
