"Over the past few days, I have had to learn a whole new set of skills as well as confront some unwelcome truths. A-- no, to my shame I can't call her a 'friend'. An aquaintance of mine became very sick and I had to look after her foal for her. As a consequence, I learnt that it is possible to know someone without really knowing them; that you can see a face every day and not know who is behind that face and what private grief and troubles that it might hide.
"Derpy Hooves is going to be fine and I am glad to say that I met the challenge of caring for little Dinky. I even like to believe that I may have made both their lives a bit better. However, I also learnt that true friendship isn't just waves, smiles and words. It is to know when someone is in trouble and when they have a secret burden and fear on their hearts. It is to remember what they like and dislike, no matter how many people you know. Friendship is to be there for someone and care for them, even someone who strikes you as odd on occasion.
"Friendship I've learnt is more than just doing the right thing for someone. It is to be constantly aware of them and their feelings. I haven't been a good friend to Derpy since I first met her but I have learnt that she is someone worthy of friendship and it is my intention to be as good a friend to her as it is in my power to be.

A really charming and warm story... Beautifully done, and a comfort to read as I sit here in a hospital waiting room (routine surgery for a relative.). It's just the kind of thing for which I love ponies!

Well written and engrossing. Entirely believable, too. Extra points for not shipping Twilight and Derpy; they'd be adorable, if anyone cared to, but it would have detracted from the story. Too bad Derpy contracted her 847th terminal disease while barely avoiding the poor house for the umpteenth time. I think Derpy and Scootaloo are in a race to see which one gets dumped on more by fanfic writers. Yours was well-handled, I'll give it that. TU and favorited!

Little did Twilight know, that the entire situation was an elaborate scheme created by Derpy and Dinky to steel the enchanted doll of smartisory, otherwise known as Miss Smarty Pants. Will Twilight find out in time? Will Dinky succeed? Will Cherillee finally be fired for her negligence of the official school time table? Tune in next time to find out.

Very very nice indeed.
A lot of people overplay the interactions between Dinky and Derpy but yours weren't full of "Your my little muffin" every few lines, giving it a nice realistic tone that was still heart warming. You also stayed away from the cliche "I'm going to die, there's no hope, look after Dinky" that is portrayed in most lesser fics. Again, very well done and written with very little (if any) in the way of errors.
When did this get to FimFic and why did I not know this?
This was one of the first things I read way back when (a year ago) I started reading ponyfics. I really enjoyed it then and actually reread it recently just because I could. I still really enjoyed it. Nicely done, sir!
This was one of the first stories I read while being somewhat "new" to being a brony. Way before this story was on fimfiction.
