While Rainbow Dash helps Rarity with a gem-surveying mission, they discuss an interesting hypothetical proposed by their mutual friend, Twilight.

More character study fun. Thanks to squipy-cheetah for the cover art, which you can find at ID 2111661 on derpibooru.

The only hard fast trike for line breaks is when the speaker changes. Otherwise, wherever they feel appropriate!

Also, good fic!

I like this. Now...I will literally just nitpick the hell out this arguement.

1. This is not a arguement against immortality rather the way it is written it is essentially presupposes limited spreading of immortality. Or rather that no immortal would and should morally work toward's ending death.
2. It supposes in some manner's a kind limited immortality and that equally it seem's that Twilight and those who have it deserve it. This is reductive because if one writes a Twilight, Luna, and Celestia who are flawed and learn lesson's then what quality makes them so...so...perfect?

Thus anyone can be allowed to grow and change? Why would this growth and such stop at such a point that only four alicorns exist? You cant be both perfect and flawed so at some point there is a breakdown.

3. Essentially there is subtle and obvious arguement here that often immortal stories never, ever seem to address?

4. Why not make everyone immortal...unironically?
1. Often people who write the these stories think there is no way a society could change and grow with immortality. But, as we will see it is selffulfilling prophecy? If you do not try nothing get's done and you die. Further, what often is weirdly ignored is the implication that those with immortality can

Give other's this 'gift'. Equally interesting is the thought that if they can give it away...why haven't they? And moreover is any excuse good enough, any fear valid enough to deprieve future generation's of people?

Consider instead of a say...'idyllic' four to five pony ruling class why can not everone just live a long time and not be a shit?

Thus, ultimately their are a many many unsaid truth's or choices being made that largely invalidate this arguement? Because what would family be like if nothing ever died? Or lovers what have you?

(This is serious inqiary. And ,no, the answer of 'overpopulation, or crime' would not suffice such thinking litterally mandates a problem because people can not imagine a world where people just don't kill each other or can handle their own shit.

Which I would say, then , how do you suppose we got this far if we could cooperate? Work together?)

Otherwise I liked it, other then the hidden immortal vibes. I also like that it was short , and filled with characrer reflection (thought about doing so myself).

Seeing as you had some questions about formatting: for future reference, since this site uses BBCode, you can't use asterisks to italicize words. Instead, do this:

Formatting advice aside, that was an enjoyable dialogue. Kudos!

"It'd feel like I was leaving somepony behind. Not. Cool," she said, tapping the cloud twice on the final two words.

Rainbow Dash saying that to Rarity is heavy duty irony. I was surprised at the lack or a retort.

Oops. I meant to fix these before I went to sleep. Guess I must have forgotten. Thank you!

For what it’s worth, I think that immortality is a gift that all should be allowed to receive and benefit from. There’s a reason I am looking at this from the specific perspective of it being limited.

I really didn’t know this until I went to submit this fic and took a second, more thorough readthrough of the submission rules. I was legitimately surprised that I had picked up on this and did not have to fix a single linebreak in this fic... I should go double check my first one to see if it needs any changes.

How is this not in the featured box?

This is a very nice story that does a good job of encapsulating a believable encounter between Rainbow and Rarity. I was just thinking yesterday that these two characters have two episodes that deal with them being rather different ponies but still good friends: Rarity Investigates and The End in Friend (I happen to like the first one way more than the second one), but in general they seem to get along fine. I also really like that you explicitly touched on the idea that all of the Mane 6 have taken on some qualities of the others through the years of their friendship, which has generally helped improve them for the better.

Oops, all dialogue.

And it works perfectly.

Essentially, they’re sitting still and not going anywhere. They also aren’t really doing anything, either. All that’s left is their conversation.

This was brilliant! The whole interaction was entirely believable between them. And I love how you brought up them each adding their friend’s elements to themselves. It’s a nice touch that I think I may need to use in the future :raritywink:

"Ouch! You know, I could just pop this cloud and let you fall, you turd!"

I have read many a fan fic, fan comic and seen thousands of pieces of fanart, but I literally have never read, seen or heard ANYPONY/ANYBODY refer to Rarity as a turd before. This moment in my life will be cherished and chortled over for years to come.
