When Celestia banished Nightmare Moon, she thought it was the only way she could save Equestria. This decision, however, though not an easy one to begin with, carried with it a weight that only grew heavier with time. Now, fifty years later, it is the eve of the Summer Sun celebration. Festivities are being held all throughout Equestria, and almost all are celebrating Celestia's defeat of the great evil that nearly covered the land in eternal darkness.

Frankly, given that the only apparent use of the EoH before NMM was to stone Discord... Celestia really had no way of knowing what would happen. The EoH are really random in their mechanism of action. Totally broken power settings, I tell ya!
