In the comic a story line focused on the "Creature Council" A similar group with elected members with Twilight elected pony rep and actual diplomats sent by the other creatures because said diplomats where much calmer than the rulers, not that shenanigans didn't happen it just involved more embarrassment than anger.
Believe it or not that’s actually not true. The head of a table is whichever seat the host or most prominent person sits at. Celestia is the host here, so actually whichever seat she’s sitting in is the head, technically.

Ooh! That line needs to be engraved on something in big letters for all the world to see! Because it's so true--I see the children of our own world doing that here and now, as we speak, and yet the adults they live with can't seem to get the hint or are, worse still, trying to actively, and foolishly, stop it. But why? If the children can overcome those petty differences, then, as Cadance says, what excuse do the adults have?

Personally sometimes I wonder if the world wouldn't be better off with the kids in charge. At least we can attempt to get along and we do better with basic honesty than most adults.
