soon, tragedy will strike. im excited
Was diligently refreshing the page for the last couple days waiting for this. Seems you've got me hooked.
Sorry to be that pedant, but the American Revolutionary War was against Great Britain (England and Scotland had joined together at the turn of the century, and the Kingdom of England had ceased to be). Or, if you like to be grandiose, "British Empire".
“History nerd”…rereads that very biased approach to history that ignores a lot of the subtleties and actual realities of what happened. Sure, a history nerd.
That depends on whether we are going by show logic (they don't exist) or by fandom headcanon where they are hated and/or feared as bloodthirsty monsters or mango addicts.
I really can't wait to see what happens when they reveal their secret identities to him..... tbh I'm kinda on the fence about the outcome I want as well. Part of me is saying "YUS ROMANCE THE PRINCESS PONES!!" but the other part says "lying, deceitful pones don't get to be happy."

Also leaves out that the USA currently practices Taxation without Representation. Such as Puerto Rico and American Samoa.
I smelled war from here...
I mean, few more next chapters

Which is in itself ignoring the detail that neither group has voted to become States despite the ability to do so and several attempts. It's almost like most of the people don't want to, and still enjoy the benefits of being US citizens without having to pay the costs associated with Statehood. Let's not forget all of those wonderful issues like when the colonists were being forced to quarter troops without any way of securing repayment for the costs incurred, or when those protestors were murdered by British troops, or the numerous attempts by the colonists to talk the problems out and solve them without violence but were utterly ignored because the nobility couldn't give less of a shit about them...
Unsurprisingly, the lack of detail cuts both ways.
Its coming...and soon the storm shall hit.
Sorry to be that guy, but in this context it's 'rout'.
is the plural of pegasus pegasi or pegasai? you spelt it with the 2nd a but it is also a possibility that everyone else is in the wrong.

Puerto Rico held a referendum in 2020 in which a majority of votes cast said "yes" to Statehood. This is technically irrelevant as the only entity capable of granting Puerto Rico statehood is Congress, who have dragged their feet for years on the subject.
American Samoa is slightly different in agenda, they'd just like autonomy and the ability to be US Citizens.
However, "Taxation without Representation" is still a slogan that applies to them, as it does to places like Washington D.C.
11023457
2020 referendum? Missed that one. Last one I heard was the one that had a 22% turn out and therefore meant literally nothing. Learn something new every day. As for Congress dragging its feet, it's the US Congress. This is not surprising. There is a reason why they are the least trusted branch of the US government (8% last I saw), and that place is well earned though better than they deserve (if there was anyone in the US government deserving of a sub-zero level of trust, it's freaking Congress).
No. It doesn't. You are trying for a wonderful apples and oranges comparison here. DC is not a state for a freaking reason (one that you are glossing over, since you want to pulled a wonderful "well actually" earlier, might want to acknowledge that reason's existence), and American Samoa is happy with how the status quo is* (minus the Citizenship issue, which is a freaking can of worms to be opened elsewhere and a place we probably agree on). Sounds like something significantly different than what happened prior to the American Revolution, which is a pretty significant difference and therefore a relevant issue compared to the colonies that were fighting against what they saw as an unfair tax (along with several other issues like quartering soldiers and not being paid for it) which the ruling government was completely ignoring and when even the most minor of action was taken in protest, a ton of bricks was dropped on the colonies in response. But if you really want to play "sound bite warfare", you might want to reconsider your "well actually" stance while agreeing with the guy who seems to think a piece of conversational dialogue in a fanfic is where you need to have a doctorial-level discussion on the situation surrounding and the causes of the American Revolution instead of the 100,000ft overview that was given which is the accepted generalized historical view on the matter.
*If you have evidence that shows that anyone in American Samoa is under a tax burden that is worse than what anyone in a State is under, I'm all ears. To my knowledge, there is no such burden beyond normal federal taxes and that their taxes are likely lower than most States because of it.

I think the point he was trying to make was that if this Anon is a history buff, he's a pretty crappy history buff, especially because he leaves out how the war ended; Great Britain chose not to commit its entire armed forces to retaking the colonies, because it was convinced by its allies at the time that this was a new post-colonial era of the world that was being entered, and it was a good idea at this time to embrace a new nation that could, in time, become an ally, rather than risk everything and leave the country exposed to other European powers. Although I don't think GB was quite expecting the US to Manifest Destiny its way across the continent.
I get your point that yeah, the summary overview in the fanfic is generally accepted, but like a dead wasp, the commenter I was responding to still has a point.
11023501
Agreed, Anything above 0% is too high for US Congress.
11023310
Updates are Monday and Friday. No need to refresh the other days
Man I miss those days.
That's literally a "Representative Democracy" system, a democracy.
A Constitutional Republic simply means you have a written constitution & not ruled by a Monarch.
And from the Oxford Dictionary:
"a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives."
There are more than just English from the British Empire.
glares in Welsh XD11023506
...Again, you decided that "generalized overview" means "here's all of these details that are irrelevant to the current discussion". The fact that Britain decided to not expose themselves to potential invasion by, say, the French has zero relevance to what was being discussed. It was literally "Here's how the US came to be without needing a shit ton of background information to understand". As for the ending of the war, Anon specifically states that he is an American... Pretty sure that makes it obvious who won that war, no? Whether Britain chose to take the L or was forced to accept the L, Britain walked away from that war with an L. That's the thing about generalizations, the ultra-specific details don't matter, just the outcome.
All of that means nothing as to someone's "history nerd" credit. Hell, ask a historian that specializes in USSR history about the Ming dynasty in China. Does the fact he might be able to give you some basic details mean that he's not a "history nerd"? No? Same thing here. No details about what Anon focuses his nerdiness on, just that he considers himself a history nerd and that he gave a generalized overview of the American Revolutionary War because Luna (someone who would need a minimum of two hours of lecturing to get up to speed on human history to have enough background information to be able to understand the various nuances involved in the Revolutionary War) was asking about it. That's all. The claim of "he used the accepted generalized overview of that event which (in my elitist opinion) is biased and heavily lacking in details and background information" is not a point. If anything, it's the salty tears of an elitist prick crying "well, ackhtually!"
EDIT: Apologies if I'm coming off as hostile. It's not intended, and any anger is coming form the fact that, at work, I should have 40 to 60 people doing work, and I currently only have 18 (with an estimated 6 to 8 planning on leaving in the next few months, and I still have to complete the assigned tasks in the assigned timeframes). Suffice to say, that despite my best efforts, I've noticed my fuze is getting shorter than it should be.
11023544
Nah, 0% is still too high. Congress deserves breaking math and giving them a negative number.
11023568
No. Those are not the same thing, and this is one of those "the details really matter" things.
Representative democracy: A form of government where the People vote on the representatives. The Representatives then vote on laws.
People -> Representatives -> Laws
Democracy: A form of government where the People vote on laws.
People -> Laws
Constitutional Republic: a political system, not a form of government, and is completely separate from a democracy (yes, you can have a non-democratic republic, for example where the representatives are inherited by bloodline).
The only thing shared is that the people vote. What they vote on is completely different.
You know, I always considered the sheer terror authors portray over a human being an omnivore.....retarded. Basically for the reasons that Luna state here in the story. Griffins and other meat eaters are out there. and no one sane confuses a fish with a person. (BUT RIKI, what about all those.. I did say "No-one sane.")
The Monk
Ooof they actually starting to care bout him an he go say that. Ah the joys of living a double life eh princesses?
Why don’t you respect any of our cultural norms here Anon?
Well that’s simple, it’s because I’m an American, and that means that I don’t need to respect any culture other then my own, regardless of context. Yee-Haw!
11023631
'Merica
> We won't be going anywhere too grandeur
'Grandeur' is a noun and thus cannot be intensified by 'too'. Just 'grand' fits, or 'with too much' for 'too'.
11023501
Don't forget sudden enforcement of laws (which had long been neglected) which basically made half of the economy of the northeast illegal.
11023843
Yeah, lots of crap going on that really don't add much to a generalized overview. Easier to just, especially for those who don't have the background knowledge to easily understand the subtleties of the time's international politics, do a quick 100,000 foot overview that has the major details of "Britain did X, Colonies told them to kick rocks, Britain grabbed guns, Colonies eventually made the British eat those guns, 'Murica!" and call it a day.
A way to a man's heart is through his stomach
*reads chapter and sees politics are included*
*looks at comment section now on fire*
I honestly think some of these conversations are longer then the last few chapter combined.
*ducks rage comment*
I enjoyed this chapter but this is getting out of hand
I think you meant "grandiose" there.
I'm just waiting for the mixed dates now. Sunny and Luna. Nightshade and Celestia. Playing the part of great great grandmother and child.
Also that was a very long path he took around admitting that it just never occurred to him.
11023608
I think in ponyville or other more backwater or monolithic populations it might be somewhat understandable if ponies were uncomfortable or unable to accommodate omnivore/carnivores. However I also find it rather silly in stories where ponies in Canterlot are Uncomfortable with meat since they likely have plenty of dignitaries come through and a capital city of a large nation would likely be pretty diverse in terms of species.
Are you by chance aiming for one of the princess to do a Bat Derp at some point?
11023344
Anons are known for overestimating their own expertise in their hobby of choice, like weeb Anons being swordmasters and whatever lol. It's tradition!
I hope Anon learns the truth soon.
Could’ve done without the history lesson honestly. It felt like 70-80% of this chapter was just filler.
11024418
Like I said, it was a sharing of culture, which I thought was important to their relationship. There's a bit more in the next chapter but not near as much as this one. Plus the next chapter is gonna have more action in it too.
11024440
I don’t mean to say that it’s not important, I just mean it could have been done in a more interesting way. Like if there were an interaction where Luna asked Celestia why Anon doesn’t bow, and Celestia takes the time to explain a bit of his culture. This way, you’re showing that Celestia and Anon are also having meaningful exchanges without actually needing to show it, AND we get to see not only Luna’s reaction, but Celestia’s input.
a pleasured moan from but a taste kind of reminds me of that food wars anime
Oh boy, politics!
*cracks knuckles*
In my book, there are four forms of bowing:
As an American, I may do the first to show respect to someone that does me a solid. I may do the second if I'm showing respect to someone from a bowing culture and I want to be very polite. I may do #3 if I'm meeting the emperor of Japan. I will likely never do #4.
I only think #4 is showing submission. #1-#3 simply show respect.
As an American, I'm also very tiredly familiar with people in this country who think the 'freedoms' in this country give them unlimited license to be jackasses. They have a child's understanding of history, 'freedom', and a child's selfishness that uses both as a vehicle for arrogance.
I wish it weren't the case, but it is certainly is the case.
Oooh boy, one look at the comments and it's a firestorm of politics. Not gonna stick my hand in that fireant nest anytime soon. Especially not in a romcom fanfic.
Other than that. Anon really did a bad no no on his part. I don't care that its done for publicity or not but Anon, me boy, never EVER mention another girls name while on a date. EVER . Lest you want your head chopped off by the warrior princess.
Yay, have a thumbs up JUST for not enacting the "Ponies freak out about meat eaters," trope.
Don't you love irony, Celestia and Luna are starting to get jealous at themselves for stealing the attention of their fiance…by themselves
11026669
"Curse you, me!"
11023631
Sounds about right.
Im Mexican American but still 'Murica! Fuck Yeah!
Ugh, spare me the American exceptionalism
I'm from Poland and we don't bow here either, because "them dirty commies" took care of our "betters" permanently
Ironically the US revolution ended replacing nobility with landowning elite, they just no longer pretended to be some super humans due to blood
