This story is a sequel to Magical Mystery What If

In the aftermath of the Fall Formal, Twilight Sparkle has many questions about the other world and why Princess Celestia never told her about Sunset Shimmer.

But one thing that sticks out in her mind is what Principal Celestia told her on the steps of Canterlot High. And now she knows. Everything has been leading to this.

A new princess will be born. And for Twilight Sparkle, everything is going to be just fine.

Okay, so Twilight not accepting the position of royalty didn't last long. That's a shame; I was wondering how future Seasons would work without "Princess" Twilight.

Here's the thing. Nothing would change if Twilight held off on the title for longer. Only her coronation and when it happened changed. Everything else is still how the show did it.

I suppose rearranging the order of events does make Twilight's princess hood make more sense as she actively decides she's ready to take the position. I suppose the real questions are Why have the Princess Summit, which really could have be planned well in advance and why bring the element of magic? Though if you think about it the "Why bring the element of magic" question is one for cannon too. Why did they make the Element Twilight's everyday crown? Seems like a security risk to not have the elements in safe keeping untill needed. Though some reason to bring the elements could be concocted, maybe to compare thier power to the Crystal Heart's power? Do some research on magic artifacts during down time.
But as I said reordering the events so Twilight takes time to decide if she is ready is nice, it gives her more agency. She doesn't just take the title and it's implications on with out thinking.

If you look at the Element of Magic though, it has always been set in a crown. A not so subtle hint that Twilight was always going to ascend to a position of rulership from the very beginning of the show.

Is Twilight going to be actively helping to run Equestria day to day from now on? No. She's still not ready for that kind of responsibility. All the princesses know that. Twilight knows that. That's a gradual process.

Yeah, I just went with they brought Magic to the Crystal Empire for "Reasons" and left it at that.

Honestly, I was originally going to question how Sunset could've stolen Twilight's crown when the purple pony isn't a purple pony princess - I thought that was a plot hole - but then I remembered Magic had always been a tiara.
Scuppered that potential plot "hole", it did.

Plundervines, tho. Ponies came to her for answers because the main two princesses had gone missing, and she was the only princess left - not to mention her friends wanting her to stay behind for that very reason too.
Also, could she have gone against Neighsay if she wasn't a princess, and was still legally a common citizen or something? Could she have gotten her school rolling with all the different races, without being royalty?

Technically, it wasn't Twilight's as it had six supporting stars instead of Twilight's five (at least in the show itself, though when she returned, it also displayed six) ...

As for the crown, that's for Twilight after getting Magic back, it's just a six-pointed star when used by Celestia against Discord and her sister (via flashbacks) ...

As for security, Discord, Chrissy, and the plundervines happened when it was in the vault and was transferred to the Golden Oak during Season 3 so 'Cure' had its opening (didn't Starswilrl's book make a cameo at the end of the plundervines?) ...

With Sunset, she did have a lot of current information on Magic she shouldn't have (when she left it was still in the old castle's centerpiece or if one takes the parallel that far, the one she swapped it with was a near likeness) ...

In the show she really didn't do day to day stuff either, she really was a back up and called upon for certain diplomatic activities.
As for the Element of magic being Twilight's crown, in the real world Monarchs don't wear their "real" crown except for ceremonial purposes and keep it a vault the rest of the time. Also the real crown tends to be more ostentatious and heavy. Wearing the Element as her "day to day" crown speaks of how bad Equestria security is when it comes to magic artifacts.
Twilight becoming a princess was set up early yes,she gets a crown, becomes a leader in Ponyville right away, Celestia gives her leader ship tests, and at the end of the Crystal Empire 2 parted we see Luna summon Starswril's journal and share a knowing nod with her sister. Celestia is also shown to have prophetic dreams so clearly she knew it was Twilight's destiny to become a princess. Though Twilight isn't ruled completely by destiny, Celestia's vision only extended to Twilight's acenshion to a Alicorn not what she'd do with the rest of her life.

You're thinking way too much into this methinks. The School of Friendship is so far in the future that Twilight hasn't even considered having her own school. Let alone a Friendship one.

If she was still a librarian, then it would crash and burn because Twilight has no legal authority to do so as a normal pony I feel. Now if she wanted to open her magic school, like Celestia's, I can't see why not.

Nothing was ever said you had to be a princess for teaching something to a specific tribe. And I doubt Neighsay would reject it outright. He would question her ability to do so. But that's about it I feel.

... Great. Now I'm overthinking how much this universe has changed, because Twilight stopped being Celestia's punching bag. Starting with Season 4.

Very little I can say other than really good job on this one-shot sequel. The exchanges, characterizations and future set-up are all pretty well done. And, yeah, Twi has a pretty good point about the "30 moons" deal being too confusing (though I'm personally of the mind that the time-frame is every two-and-a-half years in the human world and every fifteen years in Equestria [at least at that time] in order to better explain why Twilight never met Sunset until the first EG film), but more importantly, postponing her becoming a Princess until Twilight herself felt ready for it definitely makes more sense. And I appreciated Celestia admitting how she isn't sure herself concerning alicorn immortality. And, yeah, I AM enjoying how Twilight is already doing a pretty good job balancing the self-confidence and the humility (that's definitely going to serve her well in the near and not-so-near future, whether she ascends to the Equestrian throne or not).

Anyway, thanks again for sharing your work with us.
