The Isle of the Lost and Auradon

Sunset landed, turning to look at her back. Her wings were gone. Then she looked around herself.

“Where am I?” she wondered.

She noticed a spray painted wall that read Long Live Evil! with a sign that looked a lot like Maleficent.

She heard a song, Break this down. She smiled, before hurrying across the barrier into Auradon.

A purple haired girl grinned, before running down to greet her. “Sunset Shimmer!” she cried. “I’ve been waiting for you. Dad, she’s here!”

Sunset was very confused. “What do you mean?”

“Dad, this is Sunset Shimmer. I’m Mal, Queen Mal of Auradon.”

Hades looked at Sunset intently. “Sunset Shimmer, huh. Sunset, I named you. Welcome home.”

“We’re half-sisters,” explained Mal. “How did you get here?”

Sunset looked from one to another. “I turned into a phoenix and i was dropped onto the Isle. I heard you singing and i came here.”

Mal nodded. “So tell me.”

flashback

Christmas was supposed to be a happy time for everyone. Well, for everyone, but one girl. Sunset Shimmer. Just days before, she was branded with the label ‘Anon-a-miss’ and no one believed her. It was the end of the day and Sunset was outside on the steps thinking.

Here you are alone and you deserve it
Your friends have turned their backs on you
You had a cause to serve, but did you serve it?
Or did you see yourself in a way that wasn’t true?

Sunset sighed, walking back into the school. Why tell all those lies?
you feel unworthy
Like there isn’t any ground for you to stand
But a mound of lies is not a firm foundation
You cannot build a castle on a mountain made of sand

Sunset opened her locker to put her books in her bag.

This is not your principal’s fairy tale
and no, it’s not your vice-principal’s fault you fail
But when your story come to light
Make sure the story that they write
goes...

Sunset scrambled up to the roof.

Once upon a time she fought an empousa
once upon a time that demon was me
Once upon a misspent youth
She faced herself, she spoke the truth
and that’s how i see my once upon a time...
This time

Sunset opened her journal, stroking the brown cover, running her fingers across the page. Life is not a story book
But life unfolds in chapters
Turn the page and start to make amends
There’s no pre-written gurantee that everything will go perfect(for me)
Step into your greatness before your story ends
When your story ends
Take...

Once upon a time a girl flew higher,
Once upon a time she made things right.
Once upon a tie that binds,
She changed her heart, to change their minds.
That's got to be my once upon a time,
This once upon a time.
I'll finally see my once upon a time,
This time.

Sunset sighed, leaning against the wall, against the clock tower.

A bird chirped, singing a song, the valley song. From the Hunger Games.

Sunset brightened, inspired.

Sunset sat down, opening her sketch book to a new page. The sun was slowly setting, the mockingjay still chirping the valley song. Sunset sighed, taking a HB pencil from behind her ear and started sketching the setting sun, exaggerating the rays of light ever so slightly. She then took out her box of paints and chose the fiery colours to paint her picture. Red, yellow, orange, ochre and gold. Sunset dried the paintbrush and put it back in the box, shutting it. She stood up, humming.

Power
Was all I desired (I desired, all I desired)
But all that grew inside of me
Was the darkness I acquired

When I began to fall
And I lost the path ahead
That's when your friendship found me
And it lifted me instead

Sunset ran, touching the clock tower with her rough hands
Like a phoenix burning bright
In the sky
I'll show there's another side to me
You can't deny.

I may not know what the future holds
But hear me when I say
That my past does not define me
'Cause my past is not today

Her mind wandered back to the past, when she threw the pictures of her old self in the bin

Ambition
Is what I believed
Would be the only way
To set me free

But when it disappeared
And I found myself alone
That's when you came and got me
And it felt like I was home

Like a phoenix burning bright
In the sky
I'll show there's another side to me
You can't deny

I may not know what the future holds
But hear me when I say
That my past does not define me

Sunset rose in the air, phoenix like wings growing out of her back. It was like she was re-born.
'Cause my past is not today!

Then she disappeared.

present

“And that’s that.” said Sunset lamely.

“Oh ,” said Mal. “You’re always welcome to live with us.”

“Thanks.” said Sunset
