Questionable at Best? Probably.

T

Queen Chrysalis, over the course of a war she wishes never happened, has learned regret. While some would say that it is never too late to change, the Queen believes that her fate has long been decided, and that Death has come knocking on her door. Imprisoned within Canterlot she waits out what may be her final days.

I can't say too much at this point, but I will say that this is an interesting concept and an intriguing first chapter. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Interesting start, definitely tracking this.

Seems interesting, welp i'm adding it to tracked and hope the story doesnt die

I like it this chrysalis is pretty much the same as the show but more calm.
She seems of a sociopath background and a touch of narcissism.
Both of which are curable with outside help only. You are doing it perfectly I cant wait for more!

I always felt she was that kinda character who received power too young, leaving her stunted emotionally and somewhat unstable. It also sounds like she has some care for her subjects, choosing to allow them to live out their final days rather than fight to the death. I’m hoping we get to see more of her story as time goes on.

I agree thats why i believe she developed sociopathic attributes since life experiences can get you there.
And she has showed emotion multiple times.

Great Chapter and loving how Chrysalis expresses her emotions on showing Rarity that ponies of the past aren't the nicest and most selfish since their history only shows good results. Can't wait for the next element.

And now we see one of the reasons the ponies are so upset with the Changelings—Chrysalis killed Applejack and Rainbow.

I hate sad stories with Chrysalis, but I'll still read to see where this goes.

There's also how Rarity and the rest of the Mane Six treated Zecora, thats recent.

It's strange how much power those that truly care about you have over your actions and thoughts/emotions.

Very intense chapter, almost horror like. You really managed to strike a balance between Pinkie being her usual random self and the twisted grieving monstrosity that is Pinkaminie. I can't wait to read who visits Chrysalis next.

Great story so far. I look forward to the next chapter

Little extra bit that didn't really fit in the afterword and doesn't fit anywhere in the chapter. A description of Changeling Hiveminds!

Changelings don’t have what would typically be called a “Hivemind” (a “Hiveheart” might be a more accurate name), instead, as seen in chapter 4 and indirectly mentioned in this chapter, each Changeling broadcasts their emotions and intents to any nearby Changelings while simultaneously reading the emotions and intents of other Changelings around them. This allows Changelings to quickly organise themselves by, essentially, taking “reading the room” to a whole new level. At higher concentrations of Changelings this “network” of emotions and intents becomes a lot stronger as Changelings with “weaker” intents or emotions are drowned out and their own intents and thoughts subsumed by the many Changelings surrounding them that share the same emotions and intent.

Those with particularly strong flames are capable of controlling groups of Changelings like this by essentially becoming the dominant participant in such a network and contributing the most to the general pool of emotions, although this is really difficult to do as it requires a single Changeling alone to have a stronger will than perhaps thousands of others. Although adding new Changelings to a network under your command is easier the more are already under it.

Hyopthetically; Cadance, if taught, could use this to basically gain a limited form of control over nearby Changelings due to her naturally strong flame and her not being required to eat emotions. Although even if taught Chrysalis has experience over her and could likely take over any network Cadance controlled. Chrysalis also has her own advantages but those are much more vague.

This meeting went better than I expect. Better than some other fiction I ever read. Cadence trully Princess of Love here.

It does sound like Cadance, at least, is for trying to help the Changelings. But the scars from this war run deep. It’s not hard to see Chryssy’s point on the ponies being too judgmental and hubristic for tolerance to be a realistic option. But Chryssy is also showing some self-loathing that really isn’t good for her. It also sounds like the ponies committed genocide against the Changelings, which makes their call for peace ring as condescending. I look forward to seeing the confrontation with Celestia.

Perhaps at a glance, but if you stop to think about it it becomes no surprise that such things are just part and parcel. If someone cares about you, you don't want them to worry. Just like if someone believes in you, you don't want to let them down.

I I have no words this is an amazing story a work if art I cant wait to see that happens next here take this follow and this like and this favorite and I can't wait to see what happens next

What a cliffhanger man I can't wait its going to be interesting love the story

twilight might be smart and powerful but man she can be the sightless student like are queen says she be like it seem she take after celestia in certain regards as sunset did but apparently twilight was way luckier since she was started younger then sunset... even less experienced!
poor girl doesn't understand the burn she got by the old magic itself!

wonder how bunyip's/changelings survived the wendigo winters? did they turn themselves into seeds? can changelings do that? turn into seeds or emergency state like it?
think this have some mlp comic elements? cause that mean history in passing between princess and queen comic mlp celestia thrown chrysalis and her people into a volcano i don't blame the princess too much an invasion after her sister banishment does make ugly choices...

Goddamit Twilight, why don't you understand the situaion before you make a decision?

Talking without thinking...
Seeing things idealistically is good twilight BUT it needs a careful approach.

“T-this was an official decision that Princess Celestia and I discussed over the duration of your stay here in Canterlot. W-we believed it to be the most suitable course of action rather than a lengthy prison sentence. We believe that i-if you tried to get along with Ponies you wouldn’t want to return to bad habits-”

“Bad habits?! Is that what you call doing everything in your power to save your kind from a life of pain, servitude, or universal death? You Ponies truly are arrogant, believing that the virtues you do not even practice will ‘redeem’ those that go against you. Blind, arrogant, I name you Twilight Sparkle, I name you the Sightless Student. Let it forever be a reminder of your failings, let it be a symbol of shame upon you, let all Changelings that ever cross your path know of your arrogance and foolishness.”

Chrysalis is right about what she said. I mean before the Magic of Friendship came to Equestria, all species had their own way of survival. I mean it's unfair and harsh but it was their own ways of living. I mean if they added that harsh truth in the show, then Thorax's way of Sharing love is just an insult to the Changelings of the past who had to collect love to survive

I'm sorry but the changeling ways was made by their stupid Queen, they were vampires, draining love nonstop.
and if they had taken over Canterlot or Equestria what then?
They breed the ponies to make more love as even in cocoons they would died out in the end.

Also in the episode Chrysalis said her way was all that matter she never bothered to choose another, she never cared to.
As if there was another way she loose her status of power.

No thorax way is only insulting to Chrysalis, that is a fact.

“WHY DOESN’T SHE TELL ME?! WHY CAN’T I KNOW?! W-WHY WHY WHY? WHY CAN’T WE HAVE BETTER? WHY ARE YOU TELLING THIS STORY? WHY?!? ”

Makes you wonder if she's saying that to Chrysalis or the author.

Boy, did Twilight come across as pompous in this chapter. It’s pretty easy to empathize with Chrysalis here. What’s sad is that it isn’t hard to read the canon Twilight as a pompous brown-noser with lots of book sense but little sympathy for anyone who doesn’t adhere to her sense of order. This became even more apparent when she became a princess, and became more oficial.

On Chryssy’s side, I wish the show had portrayed her more like this. She had such potential in her first appearance, but then the show wrote her off as just another bad guy. She was overthrown and replaced by the milktoast moose. Yet there was such potential for more nuanced storytelling with a character who did bad things out of necessity than because she was simply bad.

As for the story, it looks as though Twilight’s arrogance has undone a lot of the growth her other friends had brought about in Chrysalis. Now Celestia’s deigned to make her appearance, and I fear this will only escalate further. Reforming Chrysalis is well and good, but the ponies are going to need to seriously reconsider how they’re going about it. This callous dismissal of Chrysalis’ actions as “bad habits” as well as labeling her a “villain” shows how little the ponies actually understand why she attacked to begin with. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear they wrote it that way so Chrysalis would undoubtedly reject it, and then claim they tried to redeem her but she in her wickedness rejected it, so when she does die they can keep their squeaky clean image...

But let’s see what Celestia has to say.

10782639
Isn't that what Celestia has done her whole life? Rewrite things the way she wants. She hid the existence of almost every threat to Equestria from everyone.

Look also what they did with Lighting Dust and how Dash was still only focused on her self and being the center of attention.

Did... did Twilight and the ponies just desacrate a changeling corpse basically?

truth can be the most dangerous weapon of all if twisted and sharpened to strike at the heart

O. This is going to have a sad ending, isn’t it?:fluttercry:

Seriously good writing. It isn’t very hard to view Celestia this way. What she did with Twilight really can be viewed as manipulative, though even Celestia May not process this as such. It also never occurred to her that her request of Chrysalis could be viewed as a kind of genocide. She really doesn’t understand the kind of pride creatures like Chrysalis possess.

I look forward to reading the final chapter!

Celestia has been taught well by Starswirl apparently yikes on the bit on offering to change changelings to ponies would of set a bad line to cross long term... like what to stop that to being an answer to problems ponies have with other races? they change the weather got the sun and moon all that needed for that perfect pony idea of a perfect world then magic editing of the world but next step is magic to customize it many people to perfection to fit with there ideas!
I could see Celestia offering that foolish and insulting solution still to hiding lings or tasking her "student" to tracking the lings in the name of "harmony and friendship" the scary thing is I could see thorax and a few other lings becoming pseudo ponies but I don't think the hive would not be impressed with those traitors but glad to see them out of the hive black listed and forgotten more food or things to watch as lessons not to mention witness side effects of Celestia "mercy" magic patch might trigger the old primal bunyip in them instead of being pure ponies like she seems to think.

Mass genocide... What the hell Celestia?! Fluttershy will not let that happen. Reason; she's an animal lover and the idea of erasing an entire species' existence is to her POV, beyond cruel.
10808641
Agree with you big time on Twilight's oblivious to see that Celestia's idea is actually an act of genocide. I mean who knows if they did change all the Changelings into ponies; wouldn't they erase their personalities and memories of who they were. Suckers like Thorax would immediately agree to it to rid of their hunger.

This is the flaw of Celestia: she thinks that if she understood her subjects, she also understood people.

I I can't wait I love this story so much

This does NOT sound good.

Several by Twilights account.

DAMN YOU YOU SON OF A BITCH! I did NOT expect to see a Fate/Stay Night crossover here!..well, sure there's been a few blatant ones but they were ALWAY left incomplete or cancelled, so...

For those few unfortunate souls that AREN'T familiar with it, it is a hentai game turned anime/anime movie/second anime series, plus all the spinoffs.(And the hentai part was...WOW I was in for a surprise after first watching the Deen anime. That scene was NOT what I expected.) A world of magic, and how mages summon heroes from outside time to fight for the Holy Grail. Heroes like Cu Chulainn, Medea of Colchis, Medusa, Hercules...and King Arthur.

Only King Arthur is Queen Arturia, and unlike every other Heroic Spirit, who is just a copy of the person in the Throne of Souls, she is the REAL King Arthur, falling asleep from hir mortal wounds after the Battle of Camlann. Regretting how she failed her kingdom, she seeks the Holy Grail to wish for a better person to pull out Caliburn, and for this she'll become a Counter Guardian.

Last, and most important to my lengthy digression, is the dream cycle. Masters dream about their Servants lives. King Arthur was a wise and just king, but they were not a kind king. Don't have the resources to fight of the Saxons? Dismantle an entire village to save 9 others. Her judgement in war and in court was always perfect, but led to a knight stating "King Arthur does not understand human feelings." If a knight chose to leave her court she'd wish them well and say nothing else on it. It is very much the reason why she died.

I just never expected such a parallel between Saber and Celestia. Both 'perfect' rulers, ruling only by logic and never allowing emotion to come into the equation. Even when it's a son/sister crying for acknowledgement. To be allowed to help. Both holding onto the crown, not because they WANT it, but because they see no one else worthy of doing so. Both immortal(until Avalon, Excalibur's sheathe, was stolen from Arthur). Both unable to relate to family, or friends, or subjects.

But now that I se the comparison, I can't NOT feel sorry for Celestia. Saber is one of my favorite characters from that series, and now I doubt I'll ever get the relationship out of my head.

While I am passingly familiar with the Fate/Stay series, I can honestly say the parralel wasn't intentional. Even if it is a surprisingly accurate one.

Depicting someone as a monster is easy, trying to depict them as a pitiable one is much harder. (And something I'm not sure I entirely pulled off). You can easily point out that Celestia banishing her sister to the moon for 1000 years is what is formally known as a "dick move", but I find very few people point out what a 1000 years of crushing guilt will do to a person, couple that with the isolation a ruler will suffer no matter what they do and it becomes very easy to see how someone will lose the ability to emotionally relate to their subjects. Trying to show how pitiable the position of Celestia is, despite the fact that from Chrysalis' view she has done a lot of wrong, was one of my main goals of this chapter.

Either way, I am glad you found something to enjoy in this mess, and hopefully enjoy whatever comes next.

that feeling when you know that the ending will be tragic, but you hope that there will still be a good ending.
Seriously? is this the solution to the problem of hunger? to turn a whole unique people into ponies? I already see the message that this event will give to other races. "You either become one of us and start meeting our standards, or we will destroy you."

That.........was a far better end for Chrysalis than I expected.
