Dragonborne Fox

It's one thing to create/throw already-established characters in a story of some kind. It's another thing to develop those characters, regardless of the situation they're in.

Sequels1

Faust and Godcat help me I'm writing an Arcane Shadow sidestory make it stop. Teen/dark for some themes congruent to Arcane, but not enough for a higher rating. Takes place during Arc VI of Arcane Shadow, and contains spoilers therein. Tagged with profanity for later chapters, coming from the Fantasian side of the fence. I will be updating in bursts; when I finish a whole day, and it's been combed through, all three parts of that day are gonna get uploaded simultaneously. Preread and edited by Samey90

Autumn break has come to the schoolchildren of Ponyville, and the foals are left scratching their heads and hooves as they stumble about mane over tail to find just the right place to make their brand new essay—that's due the first day after the break ends. The assignment? Find and gather the history of a given locale or country, summarised and with references all neat and tidy. The catch? Whoever does one on a Fantasian country or somesuch will receive extra credit; group projects are allowed, and even encouraged.

Naturally, given the fact that the barrier between the sister planets only recently broke, uh… oh, some months ago—who bothers to keep track of these things, and who expects a bored child to do that? Most adults certainly wouldn't, even outside of Ponyville's borders—there's no way to do the deed. Nu-uh, not in the grooves of Celestia's front left horseshoe and certainly not within Luna's front right. So how is it that mere schoolchildren are able to hitch a ride to and back between the planets, when they can't afford their own air vessel with the horsepower to take them to and fro within the span of a week?

With a little bit of chaotic magic from Discord, the CMC find themselves transported to the Fantasian militaristic city-state of Irongrey Aerie to complete their assignment—unwittingly, the same exact night Lance, the Bearers of Harmony and their combined cohorts return from an expedition to Greenwood gone catastrophically wrong. After receiving word of the project, its nature, and what exactly is needed to complete it, Lance complies… but whom does he assign to watch the CMC as they fill their papers with the necessary knowledge being stuffed into their ears?

Katie Rubywing, recently-conscripted ice wraithling that's also older than they are. May Godcat and Faust have mercy on her.

All I can say is great job on the start of this story. Admittedly, I've never heard of the "Arcane Shadow" series, but I still think this story has a great deal of potential. Excellent work on the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Yeah. I can see where the Crusaders MIGHT be curious enough to try to explore a part of a recently discovered planet for extra credit on a school assignment. And this is obviously set sometime AFTER "Keep Calm and Flutter On" but BEFORE "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" (though at least Cheerilee actually stepped in on Diamond and Silver's bullying this time).

Yeah. Odds are this is going to get downright crazy like MOST of the Crusaders' misadventures (though maybe even more so than usual since they're checking out on a militarized area of that recently discovered world). But DEFINITELY looking forward to more of this.

Excellent job on this chapter. Can't believe it took me this long to get around to discovering it, but the exchanges, characterizations (at least for the characters I recognized and future chapter set-up were all pretty well done in all the right places. Greatly enjoyed the Crusaders meeting a Changeling wraith during their tour of the city as well as Applejack explaining certain things (such as the reasons for the disguises). I also liked the Crusaders admitting the reason they DIDN'T react violently to the scare and the bit of translation concerning certain things.

On to the next chapter.

Another wonderfully done chapter. These new chapters took a while, but were definitely worth the wait. Really enjoyed the Crusaders' reaction to how young Katie was when she died AND her recap of HOW she died. And the details of that one big battle (including the opponent being under the influence of the same foul magic he himself was trying to use) were quite appropriately nerve-wracking.

And, on to the next chapter.

Excellent nod to the "Story of the Blanks" story as well as the Crusaders' Fantasian contacts' reactions to the stuff the Crusaders will need for a really good grade.

Anyway, these chapters were really wonderfully done and I'm DEFINITELY going to be looking forward to more of this.

Excellent job on this new chapter to this story. Love the work going into the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Really good showing to the start of the Crusaders' second day in this strange new world. Really loved to the check-ups on Fluttershy, Rarity and the princesses, the dialogues between Anna and the Crusaders, the exposing of a foal trafficker and the bit of backstory on one of Sweetie's crueler sitters.

On to the next chapter.

Again, a superb chapter to this intriguing story. Really enjoyed the look at the slime farm as well as the mentions of the slime being functionally immortal because they can regenerate (as well as the detail of what it takes to provide medical attention to somebody who is already dead).

Again, on to the next chapter.

Another excellent chapter. Have to say this IS a well-done ending to the Crusaders' second day on Fantastia. Particularly enjoyed the discussion of the nobles, the mess at Shining and Cadance's wedding and Blueblood explaining a few things, as well as the Crusaders reflecting on what they have already learned about Fantasia.

Most assuredly looking forward to more of this.

10734236 So how did you feel about the Royale Catastrophe's beginning/final moments?

Holy mackerel. Again, this was a really good job on the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up. It took quite a while, but was quite well worth the effort. And, yeah, I can see where Applejack would get excessively curious AND where the others would point out how much trouble that caused, Also liked the thoughts on Equestria and Fantasia's differing viewpoints concerning Cutie Marks as well as the Fantasians' reflection on how they are still pretty new to friendship.

Anyway, on to the next chapter.

Excellent work on this chapter. Really loved the differing reflections on Pinkie's party as well as the Crusaders sharing some info on Spoiled Rich and Diamond (and, yeah, Spoiled WOULD pretty strongly dislike the Fantasians) and getting some additional information on the vehicles and weapons of Fantasia (even getting to help operate those devices) and having enough sense to not pry too much further after "somewhat bad".

And, on to the next chapter.

And, again, the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all wonderfully done. Definitely appreciated the notes the Crusaders made on their third day in Fantasia. Particularly the notes on how Fantasia's attitudes about Cutie Marks USED TO BE much worse than they is now and WHY. At least the adults started caring enough to put a stop to those barbaric games after they nearly killed kids who HADN'T EVEN gotten their marks yet. And, yeah, sounds like Fantasia used to have a group surprisingly similar to the Crusaders.

At any rate, very certainly looking forward to more of this.

10899487 :D

And what did you think about spiel about the changeling and gryphon leaders of old?

Well, well, well. This was a really good four new chapters. Took a while, but well worth the wait. Loved the work that went into the exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up in all the right places. So the Crusaders got their marks here helping out in dealing with a pretty big problem. And definitely loved the grown-ups' dialogues on the matter (especially their big sisters' reactions, the new gear, the stuff about it is only a matter of time before Spoiled gets hit by karma HARD and the points about Diamond and Silver's probable reactions to the new marks.

VERY certainly looking forward to more of this.

11124871 And what did you think about the shapeshifting entity born of magic?

I have been having a debate lately. I want to write my next crossover fan fiction, bit I don't know which one to pick. There are either:

Kingdom Hearts x My Little Pony x Pokémon (takes place in Zeusdemigod131's "A New World, A New Way" universe and after Kingdom Hearts 3)

OR

Hot Wheels Acceleracers x Zelda: Twilight Princess (takes place after Zant attacks Link and Midna after the Water Temple and after the Water Realm)

Which one would you pick?

11140443 ... can we carry this discussion over to PMs, perhaps?

Hey there. Sorry I took a while to get around to responding to this. Nothing to blame except self-admitted laziness. Anyway, very good job on the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places.

Really appreciated the reflections on recent events as well as the Crusaders getting used to the new gear to go with the marks that they earned the previous night. And the foreshadowing concerning the possibility that some of the Changelings might end up reforming a little sooner than in canon is also a good touch, in addition to the steps being taken concerning some of the troublemakers.

Very certainly looking forward to more of this.

11143285 And how did you feel about the Fantasian General and his cohorts' true natures?

"Blank flanks…" Katie muttered, unable to stop her brow from furrowing even deeper. "Did they not know what cutie marks were?"

Sound like a story I read and an editing called Battle of the Blanks.
