A new story from Thornquill? I shall give it a go~

I really like how you kept the 'her' abstract. It makes this story feel more fluid and allows the reader to determine in their own opinion who that 'her' is. It also says a lot about the quality of the story when that 'her' can just be left empty and not take away from the story.

A beautiful story. For all the ambigious scope it covers, it's really just about two friends comforting each other at it's core, and I can appreciate the simplicity. I've lost many people dear to me this chaotic, frightening year, and much of what Celestia says to Twilight felt extremely comforting to me personally, too.

Thanks for writing.

Well-trod ground, but framing it as a discussion with Celestia and the tantalizing uncertainty of whom 'she' is gives it uncommon strength. Further, it avoids the pitfall of insipid 'immortal angst' and focuses instead on the simple regret and mourning all of us come to know through our lives.

A simple, lovely story.

I owe credit for my inspiration to try that approach to AShadowOfCygnus, who used a similar technique in his intensely sublime work Peaceable Kingdom, though we take the approach to different conclusions. I'm glad to hear it seems to have had the effect I hoped for.

I don't think I could hope for a better effect for a story to have. Thank you for reading and your kind feedback, and stay strong!

I've wanted to poke at the usual use of "immortal angst" and explore other possible outcomes for quite a long time. I'm glad the small look I was able to give it here seems to have worked well for you. Thank you for your kind words!

I love that you don't reveal who she's talking about. :) I think it ultimately doesn't matter, Twilight would feel this way regardless.
