The story was cute and I liked it but, yeah, that was pretty high up on the "Nope, and fuck you" response for me too. Especially since he knows she obviously knew about the rule and waited out the month to basically enslave him. Meaning in all likelihood this is more her pranking him than anything else.
I wonder if Celestia has heard of Malicious Compliance? Because forcing our local human Anon here, who is obviously quite a bit sharper based on his reactions than some of the rest of the ponies, to do something he really doesn't want to do can't possibly come back to bite her where the sun does shine. Especially if Anon gets creative in this "job" that he can't be fired from. Or decides to introduce "democracy" to the ponies, French style.

You know, no matter how nice it could be, or how entrenched that law might be, I would probably be extremely vocal about it. This is bullshit! Maybe it wouldn't be great, but spending my time in the dungeons would probably be preferable.
As much as I'd like to enjoy this story, I feel strongly enough about this sort of thing that any reaction from the protagonist that isn't my own... automatically turns me off for it. ;/
... and yeah, I'm aware that I'd cave sooner rather than later. There's too much good to abandon, even if this is a core tenet for me. But I doubt I'd ever be truly happy there. And I'd likely mention as much.
