Twilight witnessed something as a filly. Something that changed her life, and eventually led to the strong friendships she has now forged. A sonic rainboom. But due to a mistake she made, Twilight can't remember it, nor does she know it ever existed. On the other hand, Rainbow Dash's life was thrown into turmoil soon after the sonic rainboom. And although she has mostly recovered now, the painful memories continue to lie just below the surface.
It's now the day of the Best Young Flyers competition. What's the worst that could possibly happen?

Can't really say much since it's mostly show canon with inner thoughts, but at least it mentions the whole 'wanting to thank that rainbow-explosion pony'.

Though, I have been meaning to read that story, I believe it's in my 'read it later'.

I remember reading the story before you re-wrote this, I remember you making a blog saying you were re-writing this and I was honestly sad and scared that this was going to be a great idea lost to the sands of time, but I'm really glad you have found it in yourself to get this chapter back out. 1859902 Hmm, I might take you up on that. I've been looking for someone else other than my two pre-readers to bounce ideas off of. Also, after taking a look at your profile, I see that you love sad/depressing stories. Well, the other story I mentioned happens to be a sad/depressing story... But, sadly it's still got another 2000 words at least before it's finished, and I don't have it in me to write a depressed Twilight right now. It's half in flashback, half not. I already have the entire flashback written down, though.
Anyway, I'll get back to you about the ideas tomorrow, as it's quite late to be thinking about stuff like that. I can even send you the 1500 word outline of this entire story, if you like. It's still up to heavy change, though. There's one particular idea I've had for this story that I haven't told anyone yet, as I don't know if I'll end up doing it or not. Come to think of it, I don't know why I haven't told anyone, I never got around to it I guess.

A fine restart of this story. I may not remember the old one as well as i'd like to, but this one is an improvement upon it.

1885708 Well, in the actual episode, there were places in Cloudsdale you clearly couldn't just walk to. As they say, one does not simply walk into Cloudsdale. Also, I'm sure there's some sort of public transportation, but that costs money. It's a hard Equestrian world out there.

1885708 You know what? It must be sort of like a video game. You start off in a neighborhood when you can't fly. It's got all of the necessary amenities, but they're all worse compared to the outside world. And then, as you get better at flying, you unlock new areas to explore. Or you could use cheat codes. You just have to say to your parents, "Carry me to a new area," or something similar, and then you get out early.
Well, the rewritten sure is better than it was before, i eagerly await more content from you sir and i do not bemoan saying so.
1890313 Thanks! I do think it was a little too fast paced before, though. It didn't really give you any time to settle into the character's personalities. Also, I didn't know very well how to, you know, write back then. It was the first thing I had ever written creatively, and the first thing I had ever written at all. besides forum posts.
