The only thing that threw me off was this:
–[H]e knew there would be no way of getting back in the library, even if he was desperate enough as to climb through the window and that's suggesting that he's even tall enough to do so.
The present tense here felt out of place. Occasionally switching into present-tense momentarily can have a really cool, immersive effect when done right, but I'm afraid it wasn't so here.
