This is me, in a nutshell, every morning. Only it's my dad waking me up. Still, hilarious yarn, 10/10, may read again.
I don't think Canterlot existed before Luna was banished. Their previous home was the Castle of Two Sisters that is in ruin at the Everfree Forest and that is where Luna was locked to the moon as Nightmare Moon.
Canterlot would most likely be an entirely new place to Luna, which she probably wouldn't care under the context of this story at the time since she wants sleep above all else.
