What a wonderful, sad story! That really moved me.

Ctrl-C Ctrl-Ving a bit here, but I think these words ring as true now as they did a day ago when I was re-reading through this story. Forgoing the parts where I called for improvement, since you've done that and more. Good luck mate.

Never thought a disaster fic could feel so... serene.
Alright, to the main body. You've given a great amount-a motherlode, even (heh) - of detail to how the drought began. Weirdly enough, I also think that this feels almost symbolic to the process of a divorce, in terms of the current state of the drying-out Equestria in general and Spike in particular - the part where you've exhausted all the worst you could say, and there's only the process left before you. Like even the rage feels inadequate without anything tangible to level it at. It goes beyond raging at the heavens to opening your arms to it.
And that's why I think I love To Name a Rainfall. Because it defies how so many other apocalypses go. This one that follows the most natural crisis - the sun turning a planet that was once a goldilocks zone into a slowly starved shard of sediment like those surrounding it. And in the center, GlimGlam and Spike, the last Element and the last assistant, taking solace in each other since all else disappeared. It's haunting, but in a good way - showing that even at the end, Equestria itself didn't go out with some bang of righteous fury, something that'd possibly contradict the countless aesops and beauties its attachment to friendship. No, it followed its focus on companionship until the last two souls ran their course.
And for that, I love it. I don't think I've ever seen a fic this short be so illuminating - or for a fic so focused on the clouds drying up to still have so much literary atmosphere.

Thanks for the read! Glad you enjoyed it.

Holy crap that was good!!

You seriously wrote that in an hour?

10289570
Yup! Although I edited it a little bit afterward (and thanks to all those that gave me suggestions, ofc).

Thanks for the read!

This was a very worthy contest winner.
Your writing is so wonderfully dreamlike and evocative, and your prose is just so beautiful.
Really loved this if it wasn't obvious mate :)

Way to give me an existential crisis, mister moonshot. Reeeal nice of you.
I love it.

How do you describe... *waves hand at fic* this?

This kind of story with this kind of prose...

I really don't have the words for it.

Aw, thanks for such praise :twilightblush:

Glad y'all enjoyed it!

That was beautiful.
And, while this hit close to recent experiences I do not feel depressed but merely melancholic. That's better.
Great work.

This is beautifully well done. Thank you for sharing it.

OOOOOOOOOH goodness that was so sad but beautiful, I didn't expect this to move me as it did, but here I am just sitting like I've been punched in the gut. This is a wonderful piece, keep up the good work!

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

Jesus, I'd forgotten how to feel the things this story is making me feel. With masterful craftsmanship, you have turned words into a precision scalpel, carefully aligned them over my heart, then struck as if wielding a machete. You have broken me, and I thank you for it.

Wow. This one is downright magical.

Damn. Read the prequel, and the sequel. RIGHT IN THE FEELS! Great job!

This was one hell of a solid sequel to "Every Five Hundred Years" and the way you formulated this all was extraordinary! Definitely a heart wrencher and enjoyable at the same time! This was just perfect! Hope you didn't mind, but I made a lil' reading of this beauty!

Another great story, Moonshot.

I don’t really understand what’s going on, but the fact that spike knew what starlight was doing without seeing, smelling, or hearing her shows how much he knows her, and how good of a friend he really is.

When I saw this story and then that there was a prequel, I read that story first. I found it to be a compelling possibility that Twilight would purposefully and magically forget about her past life in order to move on and look forward to life afterwards. Although I'm not sure if this was intentioned, but I got the subtle impression that Twilight's actions had been discussed between the two of them, as Spike was knowledgeable of what she did and very much understood.

That story description confused me to no end until I started reading. Starlight would be one to take such a phrase literally, but it lead to this rather sweet moment between her and Spike. Even if they couldn't actually communicate with each other, they were close enough as friends to where they could have this interaction, and there was something beautiful about this, despite the circumstances,

I enjoyed both stories and it's rather impressive to me that each were conceived and written in an hour, for the most part.

Great story. It was so sad, just like the prequel.

These 2 fics are giving me an existential crisis. If it didn't give me such an anxiety attack to think about, I'd complement this at length. I'm going to go try to relax now...

Ahh, hope you're doing okay. I'd be happy to lend an ear if needed.

Can someone tell me the source of the cover?

nuuuu my little robotic heart is broken!
I don't like thinking about how twilight and her friends deal with the future, but this is a really good story and it makes me think of all the possible outcomes for after twilight became princess. (I'm saying this about the first one and this ssequel)
