Starlight Glimmer enjoys her visits to the human world. Her friends feed her and she's found all sorts of tasty things she loves! Now Sunset Shimmer's taking her for her first deli experience.

Sonata Dusk used to swim, sing, and snap at fish, until she no longer had fins. Then she learned just how good food could be when cooked (and served with her choice of bread). When Sunset asks her to be Starlight's guide to the carnivore life, how can she pass up this chance?

A Siren and pony might have some things in common, after all.

Set during the middle of S8E1'School Daze', while the School of Friendship is still under construction.

Whoof, just barely got under 10,000 mark, didn't you?

I was honestly surprised about the Sonata you wrote here, a bit smarter than most people -myself included I will admit- write her. Usually, it's an out and out ditz like say Mako Matoi or something, but this one? Yeah, she just loves her meat and fairly understanding.

My Sonata's a simple sort of gal. She's the heart of the group, as opposed to Adagio's head or Aria's strength. She knows the group's past and remembers more of their life just because her sisters want to forget all the humiliation they've gone through.

It's hard for a hungry Siren when you can *see* the lights of happy homes making dinner and your fellow Sirens are knee-deep in the river, looking for yet another raw fish.

I can totally get behind this idea, her being the Applejack of the Sirens in a lot of regards. Yeah, I can see this, Sonata is kind -well as kind as a Siren gets- and yes, she's as bad as the others in some ways, she just wants to survive. And if possible, live.

Subsisting is what Starlight did to her village. They survived at a minimal level because she'd found the lowest possible common denominator to exist at in the name of ideological purity.

Sonata's fed up with purity tests and wants some of the joy in life, especially if not having magic means it's been shortened to a normal lifespan. (depending on where in time & space Starswirl's spell dropped them.)

She's like the second-generation daughter to some first-generation immigrant parents. Embracing the ways of the new life, while the other Sirens worry that she's straying too far from the old ways, and it could happen to them.

I can't help but think of this song...

There's a place, beyond the furthest cloud
There's a message in the wind
And where you dream that big, you're not afraid to live
There's a place where all stories begin
Begin, with you and me

After reading this I am suddenly imagining Sonata, Starlight, and Sunset, as judges in a cooking contest. with the contestants being from CHS and Crystal Prep.

Hence the Iron Chef quote to kick things off. And contestants can only make Equestrian dishes for the judges.

Chairwoman Cadance: "We unveil the secret ingredient!" *whips tablecloth off the dais* "DAISIES!"

LOL! Round two Takes place in the human world? Also inexplicably one of the contestants despite ther food looking like toxic sludge tastes like food made by a master chef?

Lovely bit of character development, for want of a better way to describe it. Very pleasing and easy read.

Damn, this Jean fellow is quite the philosopher :p

This was a fun read, made me hungry as heck though XD

Philosophy of food is kind of its own branch.
