Okay Twiligyt is annoying me with her stance. Berating IN COMBAT, is a very stupid move.
And the ling commander, you could have gotten Intel to have better success in a second attempt. Now you don't know about slipshod.
And Val you moron.

Yeah...a mare out of her own time, and relearning a subordinate role after being the pinnacle of leadership for a thousand years...it's a bit a learning curve. We'll see if she eventually decides that she needs to accept some of the realities of the present...or if she'll continue to be principled and obstinate!
While Twilight has been shown to be adaptive to the situation around her, she has also proven to be very stubborn where her core values are concerned.
As for the 'ling operation: wasn't there a Swift Wind serving as the ambush lance's lookout? I wonder whatever happened to them...hmmm...

Even out of her time COMBAT is the last place to do that and being as old and skilled as she is she should know that is the worst place
For some reason at the beginning of this chapter I was thinking "Oh, no... Twiggles can't die, Slips can't die... Val's gonna totally die..." and then the lings trying to get the princess, and I was "Yup, totally ded" But they managed, and at the end I was thinking "Oh, wait, Vall's gonna have her moment of glory?" And then the most anticlimatic, battletech-like way to go. Cockpit shot out of nowhere.
OOF...
Looking forward to see Slips reaction and aftermath of Val's death, and Twilight's reaction to Slip's reaction too.
Is this a parody of Battletech? That show from the 90'?

It is ponyfied BattleTech, yes; though that franchise is certainly FAR more than the old 90's cartoon. It started as a tabletop game in the 80's and spawned a series of computer games that's still going on. There are also a few dozen novels as well.
It has a LOT of lore behind it. Which you sure don't need to know for this story really; but can obviously help with catching any jokes, references, and parallels.

Oh really? I only knew of the cartoon, I watched it when I was a kid back in Mexico, the mechas were cool for the time, not as cool as the VariTech from RoboTech but still cool, my favorite was the one that walked in four legs that could launch bombs on their crutches. It was both cool and hilarious

Well shit Mercenary life is over all nation and to many headhunters will be after em... That one way to end the Mercenary lifestyle.
So far i say most epic fight as of yet! 👍
Twilight is quite the hypocritic mare right about now...
Slipshot sure has his priority straight 👏
Personaly i hate light mechs, to mutch dancing to few firepower.
Medium mech is the perfect compromise to firepower and agility.
Heavy is my favorit! Can take shit incoming and punch out enough to make a assault fear for his hide.
Assault is a challange, yet always a welcome one! Slow movements and high damage per hit
Eather turning beauty spreading damage with sniping shots that is bloody fatal or dancing devistation with continued, pretty mutch breakless damage output...
Dear galaxy...
But nothing to love more than to be a pilot ~♡
Rest in Power Val.
My guess is that a ComSpark bored drone was checking some data and saw a picture of Twilight when the company registered her fake identity for the mercenary board.
Maybe the drone spat his coffee all over the screen. I can dream.
Damn, this fight... and the end was unexpected. But such is life of a mercenary in the Sphere.
