Tempest gets roped into babysitting Flurry Heart during a visit to the Crystal Empire. It's not so bad. She can talk all she wants and Flurry's a good listener. Plus, it gets her away from the hustle and bustle of the Crystal Faire. In all, she expects a quiet night.

Then she spots a spider. And spiders need to die. By any means necessary.

The Crystal Palace will never be the same.

Written for the May 2020 Pairing Contest. Loosely inspired by, well, Kill it With Fire. Has a Spanish translation by SPANIARD KIWI.

This story is a lot of fun -- and kudos for writing Tempest with such sanity, confidence, and humor above all else. Her interactions with Flurry are very entertaining. I didn't realize she could speak baby!

I would have loved to see Shining Armor and Cadance's reaction when they returned to find the place such a shambles -- would they have had questions, or would they have nodded and said "yep, looks like it was a quiet night, huh?"

Very nicely done!

Those were some impressive constructs. Madpony or no, Sombra knew his stuff. And Tempest is best foalsitter.

Tempest rummaged through the cabinet, looking at every single container. Including- “Huh. Only a single can of hairspray? Wow. Your mom must be really efficient with this stuff. Willow, willow… Willow? Not willow. Wait, is this a panacea?” She squinted at the label. “Huh. ‘RMG Grade-C Panacea.’ You must have some serious diaper rash, kid. Wait… ‘Approved for poisons, chemicals, and other ingestible toxins only.’ Okay, that’s fair. Just what did you drink?”

“Pweetch!”

'Pweetch'
'Bleach'
She really IS one of us!

Flurry can barely speak and she already knows what an axe is and what it's used for? This worries me.

Tempest grinned a wild grin. “Alright, you beautiful little thaumaturgical bomb. Let’s go kill some spiders.”

This is the best line in the history of forever.

Fuck EVERYTHING with more than 4 legs . .

BUT BUT BUT
THE SPIDERS!
*Fluttershy cringes*
I actually like spiders. Guess that's strange eh? :unsuresweetie:

Tempest Shadow. The EXTERMINATOR.
(Tempest Icon) I'm back now.

“But how come it’s always the introverts who need to go outside their comfort zone by going to parties and never the extroverts who need to go outside their comfort zone by leaving the introverts alone?”

I love this line. Although to be fair, with social distancing stay-at-home orders, extroverts are finally getting a taste of that medicine.

Hah, that was refreshing. As cute as Sunburst foalsitting Flurry is, having somepony different like Tempest is such a nice treat. You also did her characterization quite well, and the baby talk was adorable.

Auntie is more fun than mommy and daddy

I love "Spiderses"!

10226860 I have 100,000 legs. Also 500 heads, and 39,615 eyes.

I'm some random Indian god... :rainbowlaugh:

12/10, one of the best stories I've read in a while.

At this point, I'm sure the Crystal Palace desperately needs a structural overhaul... a spider the size of a chimera? Sombra, what the hell did you give to those spiders?

I could understand most of Flurry's lines, except for her very first line, and the first part of her response to Tempest grousing about Cadance trying to make her go outside. I do rather like that most of her speech was somewhat coherent, though, and that Tempest could understand her perfectly. I wonder if she's had practice in the matters of interpreting for babies...

“Hamma dime!”

“How do spiders roar?” Tempest grunted as she pounded another crater into the floor where a spider had once not been a corpse. “They don’t even have lungs!”

Well...they sort of have lungs...the bigger issue would be they have no means of vocalizing that sort of sound with the likes of vocal cords and the such.

Anyway, this story was horrifying. Good job. :pinkiehappy:

This was a lovely little read

Auntie Fizzberry

I am never calling Tempest anything else ever again.

I second this.

Tempest normally hates her old name, but it’s nice that she’s willing to let it slide for Flurry. I don’t think I’ve seen a lot of fics with these two together, but it’s clear that Flurry has more cool aunts than uncles.

This is all I could think about when they were fighting the big one at the end

This is excellent.

"What happened in here?!"

"I saw a spider so I threw a table at it. It survived, so I threw a cabinet. This continued... The spider didn't escape."

"DABAS!"

This was a great story, I loved it! Maybe a sequel with more babysitting shenanigans? Tempest and Flurry make a great team.

As a side note, I could decipher most of Flurry's words, but I have no idea what "dabas" is supposed to mean. Anyone else know?

Thank you for a wonderful laugh! Tempest is a better baby sitter than Twily, to be sure. There is no such thing as overkill.

I second what Lets Do This said about how fun this fic is, just the right about of humor and it would fit right in with the rest of the show.

This was hilarious, and I'd love for more of it.

Glorious!

“But how come it’s always the introverts who need to go outside their comfort zone by going to parties and never the extroverts who need to go outside their comfort zone by leaving the introverts alone?”

Huh... I never thought of it that way!!! :pinkiegasp:

Excuse me while I steal this idea.

That was a heck of an arachnid adventure. Should have had a weapon with Bane of Anthropods V.

That being said, there's one thing I know for sure. At least it wasn't... cockroaches. :unsuresweetie:

“Pidahs muzz die!” squeaked the vicious berserker.

Aww! Yes, Fluwwy, the spidahs muwst die.

“Hamma dime!”

Stop! Hamma dime!

“Wadif day dimpetic?” countered Flurry.

Wow, Flurry is so smart. She knows the word sympathetic, for crying out loud! Not complaining, just pointing it out.

“Dabas!”

That word is driving me crazy. What does it mean?!

I love how Flurry is so smart in this fic. Tell me what dabas means and I'm happy.

This story makes me happy. But not when the spiders are alive. Spider massacres are always justified!

Trust me, Flurry getting an axe is far from the worst thing that can happen. If anything, Flurry having an axe would make her less dangerous.

This was glorious. A marvelous adventure with a most unlikely duo! Mad props!

Ooh, that makes so much more sense now. Thank you!

Twiggles better take care, Antie Fizzberry is getting closer to be the favorite aunt.

Absolutely hilarious, even though I'm against the wanton murder of the bug eaters.

you need at least one more chapter for this where Cadance and Shining come home after the lets call it "Great Spider War"

It's a good thing Auntie Fizzberry was there to thwart this diabolical plot. Spider constructs do seem like a very Sombra thing to do.

Auntie Fizz is best babysitter. Also, congratulations, you successfully made a bug-hugger feel disgust toward an arthropod. Have a Gohma-shaped cookie.

I believe that dabas may be her attempt at saying Tempest.
