That was such a lovely chapter! So many wholesome moments, between mother and daughter, and between Berry and herself! And then so much delicious plot, courtesy of Luna, and even more wholesomeness to top it all off!
Oh and hi Camp Everfree, fancy meeting you here!
Really loved what you did with the world-building too (dare I say world-correcting?), everything you alluded to and established, it gives us a nice idea of what's happening "behind the scene" of the original 5s/4 story – and all of it delivered quite organically to boot! Now I can't wait to see how your story will collide with the original – most harmoniously, I'm sure!
Honestly for the Celestia and Luna backstory I prefer Return of the Dawn .

Really? Interesting. I read that one (I've read most of the five score fics, I got nine left on my reading list). While it felt like it had the right weight to it I didn't care for the personal conflicts. Not that the other one still up is flawless. The one I'm referencing is admittedly dated and a bit silly. Luna's human being was definitely fun in the one you mentioned as well. I hope my preference doesn't prevent you from enjoying the rest of my fic. I don't recall the details of their curse in that one but this is the closest I get to backing either Celestia and Luna fic in my entire story. (Besides taking the background characters in Return of the Dawn back and placing them in more dedicated fics. The background ponies in that one could have been anyponies besides, really.)
Someone get a quill and parchment, this mare be spitting the ink of poetry and we best take a lesson. A beautiful portrayal of our struggles and memories, with Berry’s Stars and about why they shine it’s truly a masterpiece that makes me feel like you’ve had this whole thing planned since the beginning. All the delightful metaphors! Especially with how calling something different changes our thoughts and perceptions of the very thing we name. A truly touching chapter, a resolution so close to being in view… it’s been a journey to go through with you and Berry and Ruby on this epic adventure.
This was a really wonderful and delightful chapter, as always. The way that you portray Princess Luna and the advice that she gives really gives you the impression that the advice is sage wisdom coming from a being that really has lived for a thousand years. The ‘stars v.s scars’ idea goes beyond just being good advice for a character in the story and into being good life advice in general.
The mother-daughter relationship between Berry and Ruby is also just incredibly reassuring and heartfelt too, and it’s so nice to see how each one if lifting the other one up so that they can both get through this. It’s a wonderful contrast to some of the darker extremes that this story has portrayed.
A great chapter as always. I love the way you described Luna, and really got into tbe conversation between her and Berry. I can just picture Luna acting like she didn't hear Berry correct her on her name.
I don't know how much more of this story you have, but look forward to reading it. Oh, and I chuckled at the They Might be Giants quote. Nice touch.

i agree but it is to bad the story was never finished.
this story is really good and i am so happy to see the five score is still alive.
i only know of 2 story's that are active in the five score line.
The Luna sections are some of my favorite to read. Since Berry is spending a lot more time alone than the mane six did, and she has her personal demons to face, it is great that Luna is in that guardian role for her. It really makes Luna feel more important too, she isn't just stopping nightmares but as active in protecting Equestrians as her sister.
It looks like you tied it into a 5/4 Luna fic which would be interesting to see Luna trying to protect the various other ponies in their 5/4 stories, working behind the scenes to make sure everypony gets home. Tying a story into another story can be hard, but you have tied this into like 6 or 7 five score fics that I've counted so far. It's Impressive.

I'm glad you're having fun reading this. Since I'm using relatively minor characters in a larger shared world I wanted to make sure it felt like that. A lot is going on while we're going through Berry's personal story!
I loved writing the Luna parts. You can get really creative when you're writing about dreams and astral projections and whatnot. That Luna story ended too early. They all did. I'm hoping the hints that I provide for those stories is acknowledgment of them as well as paying respects. There's only so much you can see from one little pony's perspective In something like this. A lot of characters' paths can't be crossed. For everyone else...
Only just noticed this, but "turning back" is such a great term for the TF style in Five Score. It also makes sense that, with such a large population of ponies, they would have formed a casual way to socially refer to this shared moment of their lives.
Berry's puns & humor around horse anatomy always get a chuckle.
What a great bit of insight and philosophical commentary. The idea of "the names we use having a tangible impact" is something we all implicitly sort of understand, but also something we rarely think about or make an effort to change.
Over the years I realized this is also a very real thing for authors, in a very meta sort of way. We go out and write stories with their virtues and wisdoms with the obvious purpose of sharing them to the audience to take in. But at the same time, whether we realize it or not, we are writing about those virtues with the intent of gifting them to ourselves.
...or maybe that's just me
I love how, while Berry goes from a young man to an older mother, Luna and Celestia have to deal with being two thousand years old. That has to be an interesting adjustment.
