Alaborn

Somewhere in the USA. Probably older than you. And something about MLP:FIM makes me want to write stories. Unfortunately, being gainfully employed cuts into my writing time.

No motocross, no Principal Cinch, no Equestrian magic. The new Friendship Games are bound to be an improvement over the original. But where did these new students come from, and why is that new coach determined to win?

The week passed in a flash. With a cheerful song in their hearts, the Rainbooms worked to help their friends improve at their Friendship Games events, both athletic and academic. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and Canterlot High even got some last-minute sign-ups. By the end of the week, even the normal lunchroom cliques had faded, with students from different groups sitting together to help each other prepare for the Friendship Games.

In other words, they had a montage.

Yeah. Another bust from the contest. It's not a horrible story by any means. But these random things you're stuck with working with, have never really clicked as workable for me.

I did read all of it. But it's too meh for me.

“Ooh, like the One Ring!” Pinkie Pie said.

So throw it in a volcano. (Or the sun.)

Seal the Alicorn Amulet in a block of iron and throw it into the Sun. Problem solved.

If it was that easy to get rid of it, it never would have fallen into Trixie's hooves.

Or Princess Celestia is incompetent at dealing with dangerous artifacts. Which, given the show, is entirely plausible.

“You must agree, Superintendent, that the kinds of students who like motorcycle racing tend not to be athletically or academically gifted,” Celestia said.

Not sure about the first one. Or the second one, frankly. Really, I just think Celestia likes motocross and is offering any excuse she can think of to keep doing it.

But she couldn’t put a hoof, or finger, on it.

She paused in both thought and motion and double-checked her species. She could never be too careful there.

My research found a Lightning Dust running track for a Division III college in Whinnysota.

Between this and the fact that exchange students do not work that way, I feel like they have enough evidence to go to the principals.
... Oh, right, mind control. The traditional EqG answer to "Why not just tell the proper authorities?"

“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that,” Sunset Shimmer said.

Well now you've all but guaranteed it will come to that.

A beam of magical energy shot out, striking the foreign woman, and she started to run faster, despite her injury.

And apparently no one noticed?

“She’s using the Alicorn Amulet!” she shouted.

What? How? When did she...
Right, going to keep reading.

Lightning Dust looked at her hands in confusion, and then shuddered. “Where are my wings?”

Well that just raises further questions.

The consensus among the visitors was that they came to compete, even if they weren’t expecting to do so in a new body.

So who... when did... how did...

... and yet another reminder to Starswirl the Bearded to stop blabbing about the existence of mirror portals.

I mean, that explains some of it, but last I checked, the portal was in Twilight's house.

This was an enjoyable read, don't get me wrong, but the questions of what could have led to those initial conditions boggle the mind. Still, you definitely made the most out of one of the more ludicrous prompts in the contest. Best of luck in the judging.

In this story, the Alicorn Amulet is a manifestation of envy and jealousy, and can no more be permanently destroyed than can the Tree of Harmony or whatever symbolizes Harmony.

It tricks its user, saying it will give you what you want, but not telling you how it will give you what you want. Each person was convinced to accept its power, to meet their own desire to win. And while under its control, it stops you from feeling that anything's wrong. And once its gone, all the bad thoughts hit you at once.

And as for how they get there, it has the power to function as a portal.

I just bury that thing near the tree of harmony. The tree will probably be able to keep it in line being its opposite and if anyone thinks about touching it the tree can warn them off. Plus if they still don't listen she can twilight and friends.

Uhhh i tried that
Apparently having a disharmonic force and a harmonic force next to each other is a BAD thing!
Who knew?
Seriously it made the tree start to die for a bit
