Lyra has discovered anime and wants to show some at her Hearth's Warming party. However, one pony doesn't approve of her choice of series.

Written for BorealStargazer for Jinglemas 2019. Prompt was Lyra wanting to share what she's learned about anime.

...I'd have laughed if the twist was Bon Bon airing Code Lyoko instead.

Before I read this, I must know: Why would this pony not like anime?

Ah true, I could have ended it with Bon Bon showing a different show by mistake; though conceptually, I'd have to justify Lyra bringing a different show with her.

The pony (it's Fluttershy) likes anime, but she's too old school for Lyra's newbie anime.

Hmm, very true. Suffice to say though, there needs to be more fandom exploration into FlutterOtaku.

First of all, thanks for the story. I really enjoyed it!
I hope you're okay with hearing some criticisms, though.
"They growling as they latched onto her legs and pinned her" - seems like the verb is missing here.

1. Fluttershy acts... somewhat out of character. I mean, she can be bold, no doubt, but it would be more believable if we could see the transformation from "quiet everyday Fluttershy" to "geek-raging Fluttershy" in the story (probably because Fluttershy suddenly discovers what title Lyra is going to run) instead of getting "geeky Fluttershy" from the get-go. Like in season 1 episode 14 (where Rarity presses Fluttershy into giving criticisms about her dress). Creating additional tension is very cool.
2. Bon-Bon is good. Lyra/Bon-Bon chemistry is good.
3. Otaku Fluttershy is... unexpected. But quite believable. It's always the quiet ones....
4. "In fact, a ninja is usually a sign that the series is actually bad." - gave me a good laugh. I witnessed that school epidemic of Naruto fans myself (it was demoralizing).
5. Lyra/Flutters fight.
Is epic. Nothing more to say here.
6. Moondancer's short interference - I'm not sure it fits her character perfectly (maybe this would be more natural for Twilight?) but the part itself is very good and egghead-y.
7. Final conversation between the two.
While it makes sense, the effect is somewhat weaker because there are too many words. Fluttershy and Lyra explain what they think in a semi-monologue instead of showing what they think in their emotions (posing, gesturing, stumbling, face expressions etc) and reactions/interactions.
8. Almost forgot. The beginning is good. Spy Lyra!

Despite some flaws, I really like it. It reminded me of a good time when my friend and I rented a flat together, me being a more "traditionalist" watcher (Japanese audio track with subtitles, classic series) while he was more chaotic, watching both subtitled and dubbed titles of varying quality. While I didn't share some of his enthusiasm, we were both reasonable enough to recognize that everyone has a right for a different taste (also, sometimes watching a really bad title dubbed is a guilty pleasure). Fond memories.

I threw this idea in without really expecting anything (especially after I was told that overly specific prompts could be ignored to meet deadlines). Instead you span it into something curious and gave me a gift I never even thought I needed.
Thanks!

PS. I know of some good youtube channels about writing that I personally enjoy. I can share them if you wish but don't want to press you into anything. Poke me if you're interested.

Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the feedback. I fixed the typo.
Regarding geeky Fluttershy, there's precedence in "Scare Master" of Fluttershy liking various anime/manga properties.
About Fluttershy getting angry and forceful too quickly, that was an issue I noticed too, which I attempted to balance out by her calming herself down. I choose not to spend too much time building it up for the sake of brevity and shock value. Regarding it being in-character, I feel by the time of "Flutter Brutter", she'd feel fairly comfortable talking this way to someone she knew.

For the record, not a fan of Sword Art Online.

That is a good thing to not be :facehoof:

The feel when I see Fluttershy and identify way too hard with her

Less so about old being better than new, plenty of new is awesome, but I totally dislike SAO and can't stand dubs, so lol, hello yellowquiet mouthpiece for me.

This was fun :)

10007837 I need to watch more anime from the 2010s. I’m feelin’ old. On a side note, I’m not a fan of SAO.

.....Seems legit. Nice work :derpyderp2:
