I want to see where your going with this.

I also have an innate weakness for anything that shakes up canon,

Time travel! Time Travel! *bounces up onto the ceiling, before crashing back down* Ok, I'm good. TIME TRAVEL!!!!!!

Looks like Twilight needs help from the Doctor to explain this timey wimey situration

REALLY intriguing start to this story. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all well done in all the right places. Right now, I am guessing that one of Twilight's many old enemies transferred her future self's mind into her younger self's body just to mess with her. I mean, there is probably no shortage of villains powerful enough to pull something like that off who would have a grudge against Twilight. And, yeah, Twilight revealing that bit of info concerning Sunset Shimmer (who Celestia knows, but hasn't told Twilight about yet) should have at least told Celestia that, at the very least, she was telling the truth about her future mind being transferred to her younger body.

Also, you put down "Midnight" Moon a couple of times when you actually meant "NIGHTMARE" Moon. MIDNIGHT is TWILIGHT's evil side.

But, at any rate, I will most definitely be looking forward to more of this.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake I fixed it. as for Princess Celestia that's addressed in the next chapter

Excellent job on the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places in this latest chapter. I particularly liked the reasons Celestia and Spike finally believed Twilight about how her mind is from the future as well as the slight modifications to Twilight's first meetings with the rest of the Mane Six.

VERY definitely looking forward to more of this. :-D

I'm intrigued in the mystery, is this going to be played straight or is it like new game+ where things are basically the same but the difficulty had been turned up and some other tweaks to make it stand out from the base game.

I'm sure nightmare_moon isn't going to change her plans now that someone knows that she's princess_luna or that it's going to be that easy as Twilight suspects.

Also not a smart move threatening someone with the one thing that can defeat them to their face, you didn't do it the first time so she didn't have to take any other measures to stop you however you gave up the element of surprise to openly challenge her, she's on guard now.

Once again, this was a really good chapter. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all well done in all the right places. I particularly liked Twilight's chats with Pinkie and Spike before Nightmare Moon returned. Yeah, Twilight made a tactical error in revealing that she has at least SOME foreknowledge concerning certain details (including Nightmare Moon's former and future alter-ego and greater detail on the Elements of Harmony than most ponies have at this point) since, as pointed out, it puts Nightmare Moon much more on her guard, but I can understand her confidence considering how much worse she and her friends have won against in the previous timeline.

I'll definitely be looking forward to more of this (especially considering I'm curious as to just how much worse Nightmare Moon is going to make the traps and monsters now that she knows Twilight is on to her) but will also understand that real world matters need to come first.

Of course Pinkie would know that Twilight time traveled.

Again, this was a really good chapter. Took quite a while, but was well worth the wait. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are rather well-done in all the right places. Yeah, Nightmare Moon changed things up a bit, as we expected and, to her credit, Twilight DID acknowledge that she made a tactical error earlier. Instead of the rockslide, Nightmare Moon simply got the girls lost a bit and Rainbow had to get them back on track.

Of course, I'm very certainly looking forward to more of this.

And I hope you and your family and friends have as safe and happy of a new year as possible.

The synopsis confuses me. Wouldn't befriending her old friends be easier the second time around?

that's a beginner's trap, think like a game you already played before.

There was this RPG boss that handed me my ass, so after leaning of its weaknesses I restarted the fight to get ready for the boss.
The problem is the mistake made by assuming I didn't try that hard to come up with a legit strategy even with its weakness it still kicked my ass.

point being that even with knowledge of future events, the enemy can simply alter their plans to play around her future knowledge or even use it to their advantage.

The name of the game is 'the tenth line: speical edition'

When will the next update

Again, really good job on the latest chapter. It took a while, but it was well worth the wait. I give Nightmare Moon points for trying to use a cockatrice instead of the Manticore, even if she unknowingly played into Twilight's hooves by still using something she had past experience with. And, yeah, I can understand still using the fear trees and Steven because, unless I miss my guess, Nightmare Moon was just trying to distract them while she (apparently) destroyed the elements. Unfortunately, Twi's past experience STILL made the realization. And, now, the first adventure is done (though maybe she could go back to Canterlot JUST long enough to pack some prized belongings for the move, explain things in pony to her parents and big brother, check up on Moondancer and (most of) the rest of her old study group (in other words, "Amending Fences" happening more than a year sooner than in canon) and talk to Celestia about - some things to prepare for based on (for HER) past experience (sending a team of diplomats to Griffonstone to help out THERE, locating and locking away who knows how many lost magical artifacts BEFORE they fall into the wrong hooves/claws, having a team of guards capturing Chrysalis while another team of diplomats helps show the other Changelings a better way, having guards checking on Tartarus semi-regular to reduce the ease of Tirek's escape (as well as find out about it MUCH sooner if it DOES happen), sending a team to Mount Aris to help out Queen Novo and the hippogriffs against the Storm King and his forces, etc.).

Of course, the mystery of how Twilight's future self ended up in the past is still there and, as I said before, there are no shortage of suspects.

Of course, we still have to go through who knows how much (fortunately, the next BIG adventure isn't going to be until the "sleeping dragon" incident, so there will still be time to prepare for THAT).

But, at any rate, definitely looking forward to more of this.

when in doubt, blame discord.

unless its reasoned out by the author himself or herself as not being possible for him to do.

I'm obviously overthinking it, but I don't know how this will end well with the whole sending Twilight back to the future business.

Here is what I think.

This case is different from Starlight's time travel where Starlight, Twilight, and Spike went back in time with their physical body (they still in adult form when they travel back to the past and Twilight still an alicorn despite the change in the timeline). But here, it's about Twilight went back to the past, and she took control of her past self instead.

I don't know which part of future Twilight that went back to the past and with that, there are two things in my mind. Only her knowledge of the future or her entire soul.

This cause some issues that need to be addressed.

What happened to present day Twilight?

If only her future knowledge went back to the past, I assume she is still present day Twilight and thus sending her to the future can cause a problem (conscious only or conscious + body) to the future Twilight and actually can be "fix" with morally questionable memory alteration and that's no good.

If this is future Twilight's soul, will her past self merge into one, or she is tapped in there with no control whatsoever or worse, dead. If they merge the method above can fix it which may kill future Twilight or if not, cause more problem down the line with amnesiac soul alongside present day Twilight in the same body and if she is trapped will she be the same Twilight after what she has been through? Things definitely not the same and may alter the future but if she is dead...

Paradox happened.

If she was dead then her future self didn't exist and if she didn't exist, then her past self is alive and if....

You get the idea.

I still don't know how you will handle the time travel thingy where some authors use multiverse theory (changing timeline = creating new continuity and the original still exist), or it's only a single timeline.

Sorry I'm rambling on here, It's just something in my mind after reading.

Good story btw.

Yeah. That's naturally a definite possibility, if maybe a bit too predictable. We'll have to wait and see though.

10658150
Yeah, that is actually a pretty well thought out observation. Good catch on all that. Again, though, we will have to wait and see.

That's odd, I thought I already responded to this one. Oh, well. That could just be my memory playing tricks on me.

At any rate, thanks very much for getting the next chapter up. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all well done in all the right places. Greatly enjoyed Spike reminding Twi about Moondancer and the others in time for her to fix the damage BEFORE it got too bad. And it was good of Spike to come up with a good (and half-truthful) alibi explaining how Twi knew about Nightmare Moon. And, yeah, I could see Twi thinking ahead to the future big adventures she and her friends will be facing. VERY certainly looking forward to seeing how Twi's meeting with Celly will go.

Most assuredly awaiting more of this, but will also respect that real world concerns have to come first.

Oddly kinda funny how she forgot to return a certain book that would be overdue soon. Perhaps later chapter she would remember.

I am surprise the villain didn't right now strike someone who has great knowledge about her, especially her true name and the method of defeating her. In addition, if she can recall on Discord, she would regret on trying to destroy the only thing that can take him down at that time period... then again canon didn't due to focusing on the present at the time.

Now for Pinkie, if human counterpart guess exactly how Twilight's were from the movie, then expected normal Pinkie to be spot on, so congrats on playing it key to character.

Looking forward with the meeting.

Good chapter. Short, but good.

Me wants more chwampters, I demainds more chwampters. Or feel my fiery wrath of doom

Isn't sombra full on dead

Supposedly, yes. But you can't keep a good super-villain down. In fact, comic book and cartoon villains seem to have an easier time escaping from the Infernal Realms than they do prison.

Hey there. Thanks very much for getting the next chapter up I really appreciate you going to the effort. Once again, excellent job on the exchange, characterizations and future chapter set-up. I especially liked Twilight's discussion with Celestia concerning possible enemies that could pull something like this (even briefly considering Discord because of Twi unintentionally hurting Fluttershy before dismissing it because, while Discord certainly has the power, he would be trying to take the credit for it if it WAS him), particularly the stuff about Starlight and Sunburst. Of course, it's possible that Twilight MIGHT be overthinking it and was simply sent back by accident courtesy of some magic in one of the books she was reading , but it is more likely that Celestia is right and some as yet unrevealed villain (either an old enemy or a new one) did this to Twilight. Of course, if it IS the latter, then sending Twilight's more experienced mind into her younger body is more likely to backfire than go right - unless the mystery villain is COUNTING on Twilight getting over-confident because of working under assumptions based on past experiences and then subtly (at first) changing things up.

At any rate, definitely looking forward to more of this.

If you believe a fan theory about King Sombra in S9 is actually Discord himself, I'm sure the real one is still somewhere.

"Spike was with Amber in the dragon lands... and Discord is really protective of Fluttershy."

If you're talking about the Dragon Lord, it's Ember, not Amber.

Interesting story. Added to my read list.
