I've never seen a place that's quite like this. Everything is turned around; this crazy world is upside down.

Cadance had always felt that she didn't quite belong. Being the lone pegasus in a village of earth ponies, it was easy to see why. She'd shrugged it off as something she would grow out of once she discovered her special talent, but it became harder to ignore with each passing year. Still without a cutie mark by the time her eleventh birthday rolled around, she began to wonder whether she would ever find her place.

Little did she know how her life would change once she learned the truth. Faced with a past she didn't even know she had, Cadance has to decide who she really wants to be. Thankfully, it's not a decision she has to make alone.

Some elements herein are inspired by Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell. Familiarity with the book is not required to understand this story.

Bunch of flankhole adults aside, and seriously, what happened to Equestria's hospitality? I do like it. Can't tell if the adults being rude, or whatever you call it, is because Cadance is so different.

Or going off where I think this is going. And maybe calling them rude is overdoing it. But none of them sounded nice to Cadance, for whatever reason.

Another excellent Cadance story from you? I look forward to seeing more of this one! (And hopefully others too!)

Thanks! I do intend on continuing Cosmic (I assume that's what you're referring to, haha), but it's a pretty heavy story, so I want to make sure I do it just right. I have started work on it in tandem with this one, though.

Excellent to hear! And I meant Cady stories both older (Cosmic) and newer~

Always great to see another Cadance backstory piece! Loving your take on it so far.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, Elder just made her a fake cloud out of tree branches, which hurts my heart a little.

Glad that scene read the right way.

Happy to hear you're enjoying it so far! The ideas behind this story have been bouncing around my head for the better part of 5-6 years now, so it feels good to finally delve into it.

I got excited to see another fic about Cadence's backstory! And this seems to be somewhat near to canon, even.
However... it seemed to drag, especially in the second half, and all we're doing is meeting OCs who are friends or acquaintances of Cadence, and while there's some inherent conflict I can sense, not much actually happened.
Still, I'm curious to see where this might go!

That's an entirely valid criticism! Thank you for it. Scene-setting is definitely something of a stumbling block for me—and I suppose it's exacerbated by the fact that the bulk of this story is an original setting with original characters, which is a huge departure from the more firmly established settings of fanfic that I'm used to writing in.

I do hope you keep reading when more comes out, though! Hopefully once the whole picture is put together, it'll pay off.

Hey, we're always learning! I definitely plan to keep an eye on this fic and see where it all leads :raritywink:

This story makes me feel as though I’m reading a novel, like I’ve just tucked myself away with a good book and a cup of tea. I adore it.
I so enjoyed the world you created - it’s a place we’ve never heard of and it’s completely your own. I’m particular with these characters because I like them so much, and you really nailed the perfect backstory for the princess of love. I adored the little details that showed she yearned for love, and to give it, but maybe just hasn’t figured out how yet.
Can we talk about her pet plant? That was precious, and - as strange as it sounds - the relationship (I guess it’s one sided because it’s a flower) between her and the plant is written in such a refreshing manner. I think it can be difficult to right the dynamic between owner and pet, but you did it magnificently.
The original characters were another splendid detail in this gem of a story. I’m picky about OC’s - for me, they can either sink or swim - but I was endeared to yours almost immediately.
This story was such a delight to read, and I hope this review does its beauty justice.

First off, apologies for the late reply. I don't have a great excuse, but I'm here now!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I've put a lot of time and thought into these characters and the world around them, and this chapter only scratches the surface. To know that you enjoyed it to such an extent despite it being just a snapshot really warms my heart.

I do plan to continue and finish this story, but I won't be posting it until it's fully complete. I want it to be the best that it can possibly be since I've devoted so much time to it, and taking my time to refine it is the best way to do that. I hope you'll continue reading once it's ready to go!
