Winged Anomaly

Author's Note: Unfortunately, some people have failed to realize this: This trilogy takes place in a quasi-steampunk alternate Equestria, where tensions are much higher, and as such, weapons technology has progressed much further. Sorry to have to post this, but Equestria Daily rejected this based on 'believability issues', and I'm still a bit bitter about that.

When Unicorn extremists assassinate the twin Princesses and decimate Canterlot, Equestria falls apart at the seams. Each of the three races gathers their own and declares war on one another in a desperate bid to achieve ultimate dominance - as well as control over the fabled Elements of Harmony.

Rainbow Dash is now a member of the Wonderbolts, who have been assimilated by Pegasus military leadership and converted into a special operations task force, trusted with only the most insane and dangerous of objectives. Fire follows Rainbow Dash as her conviction, strength, and allegiances are tested time and again, and as she is forced to make choices that could seal the fate of those she loves - or of the Pegasus race as a whole.

Note: This trilogy takes place in an alternate universe, where Equestria is at a significantly higher technological level than in the show (televisions, explosives, advanced firearms etc.) and racial tensions between the three pony races were much higher to begin with. I felt the fundamental differences between the show and this story spoke for themselves in regards to Fire taking place in an alternate universe, but that clearly wasn't enough for some people, given a few of my readers have gotten after me about the technology level. Hopefully I won't have to address this again.

This is part one of a trilogy; you can find the latter parts here.

I started it and determined that you've clearly put effort and heart into this, I just don't have the time to read it all now. Liked cause of that, but I do have one immediate piece of constructive criticism for you, and that's the way that you have it formatted.
I would recommend double spacing between paragraphs (dialogue included), it just makes it easier to read.

Other than that, I look forward to finishing this!

I'll take that into account, thanks for letting me know :)
I'll probably reformat it tomorrow.
I tend to use one of two formatting systems: when working on my computer in Open Office, I use standard novel formatting, which is what it's in now, but when it goes online (specifically a place that doesn't support paragraph indention, like Storywrite) I usually add a space between paragraphs and dialogue to make the lack of indention less evident.
I've never mixed the two like this, but I can certainly see how it would make things easier, and in the future, I'll make sure to get the formatting set up like that on the getgo.

I... I... I just can't... It's like... It's... like... I... I don't even... know what to say... But... in the last speech, she's right. People should learn something about this story...
I... don't know... I don't even know what else to say... I'm just shocked... a lot... I... I... really don't know what else to say... This one shocked me quite a lot... I... I'll just leave a personal thought, deep from my heart.

War, War never changes... But people in a war does. They kill people, for their country. For money. For FUN. Because someone told them to do like so. They turn into something that isn't what they looked like before... Most of the times... Others, may not change. Other may still think with their own heads. Other may understand better than anyone (or anypony) else.
You, Winged Anomaly, have understood this, and wrote it on the internet, sharing it, so everyone else, like me, could understand what really "war" means.
You, Winged Anomaly, have a big heart, a heart that can understand pain.
You, Winged Anomaly, have all my respect.

Thank you guys so much, I'm so glad people are enjoying this ^-^
If you enjoyed it, brace yourself: this is the first part of a trilogy of stories. The second one should (hopefully) be up today.

So sad. Scootaloo's fate hit me the hardest... that's just cruel. I'll definitely be reading the next one.

That was...painful and sobering. In a good way.

Glad you enjoyed it, mate!
In my opinion, this one was possibly the weakest of the three, so provided my analysis is accurate, you're in for a treat :P

Dragged incentivized here by a close friend.

I won't lie, I don't normally like/read these type of stories. Pain, death, loss, suffering. Not on my ponies! Or something along those lines.
But truth is I did read it, and I did enjoy it.
It was a good story. Straight forward and well written, just how I like them, and it perfectly portrayed the horrors of war.
Gut wrenching in some parts, very sad in others ... :pinkiesad2:, but worth the ride. That's for damn sure.

As a final thought, I would like to thank you for writing this. You did a great job.
Guess all that's left to do is read the other two parts.

Thank you so much for reading it and commenting!
I'm very glad you enjoyed it as much as you did, particularly given it wasn't really your cup of tea - I hope you enjoy the next two parts when you read them :)
