OK, this was mega trippy. If I understand this whole rite is to somehow seal/kill the under-dwellers? To make up for a older rite? And that Maud and Pinkie did the same as Marble?
You always write some of the most, confusing and disturbing one-shot horror stories. And I mean that in a good way.
All I can make out is that the thing is "Surprise", the original concept for Pinkie Pie where she was a white pegasus with poofy gold hair.
At some point, the Pie family had made "a mistake" and somehow kept "Surprise" in a chasm underneath their house.
They somehow found out that Holder's Bolder can re-birth ponies by using their blood on it.
With Holder's Bolder's re-birthing, all 4 Pie sisters, Pinkie, Marble, Maud, and Limestone are being trained to eventually defeat "Surprise" with their combined strength. I'm assuming that the re-birthed sister can regain their memories and/or retain their strength from their previous life, to get stronger and smarter.
The only way to open the door to get out of the room is for one of the sisters to die. And, in this instance, and possibly the previous three that Igneous mentioned, Marble struck Limestone to let "Surprise" kill her. It wasn't that Limestone has been weak, it's that Marble has been sacrificing her sister to keep on living, likely fearing death. Very dark stuff, but nothing I wouldn't expect from Shortskirtsandexplosions.

And that is why you should stay off Holder's Boulder.
What's especially intriguing is how Pinkie and Maud have been allowed to move out. Nor were they required to attend the feast. They are presumably ready. Limestone, though... The anger, the paranoia, the obsession. Small wonder she can't see the larger scope, distracted as she is.
