I present an alternate take on Friendsip is magic where Twilight never leaves Canterlot to go Ponyville, and instead relies on her new family to protect Equestria. I give you, the House of Sun.
Please go easy on me with criticism, I havent written a fic in a looonnggg time. Also Im not quite sure how long this gonna be, I'll at least write up to Nightmare Moon's appearance.

Though I have to wonder how Twilight's parents died? An accident? OR, is there something more... sinister afoot?
Yeah, there are several blind spots with canon to be honest. I mean, have we haven't really seen Cadence interact with Celestia much either. I think the chapter book and the IDW comic very briefly touch on this and that's it.
A tad fast with the pacing. Personally I find some of the sentences are a bit clunky with the wording, try using other words to continue with a sentence besides and, I found at least one sentence that could have been better with 'with' instead of and.

it's always nice to see good old sunset shimmer. if you want to know how sunset ended up having a falling out with celestia there is an entire issue about it in the comic books My Little Pony 2013 Annual
pretty much she believes she was better than anypony else, and (my guess is Celestia spoiled her), eventually Celestia decided to teach her a lesson on humility, looking into the Mirror to the human world she saw her self as an alicorn, and she wanted the power to be Celestia equal, when celestia banned her from studying the mirror due to her not being ready she went behind her back to study it anyway. she then found out that Celestia could turn her into an alicorn. and when Celestia and the guards caught her in the act, sunset demanded that she turn her into one, Celestia then dismissed her as her student and when the guards were escorting her out of the castle she made a break for the mirror to the human world
Interesting looking forward to seeing what happens next.

great story i like that you added sunset into the story i hope you don't make her go bad but judging by your tags i'm not sure after all you had Twilight kidnapped in the first 5 chapters so i don't know what your plan is for sunset. I only hope you don't turn sunset bad/evil.

and ya almost had me there imagine if Celestia would have yelled "where is my DAUGHTER!" In almost full sun goddess mode And twilight yelling out "momma!" now that right there would have been a Spear to the heart.
That was some really painful stuff. Yeah, I can definitely understand Twilight's reaction to her parents dying like that. And, at least Celestia IS making an honest effort to try to help.

LOVE the family moments going on here - both the good (i.e. Celestia giving helpful advice and taking them for fun activities) AND the bad (Shining working through his own grief just as his sister is, but exploding worse because he was trying to keep his grief bottled up for too long). And, yeah, I DID love how understanding Cadance was concerning the latter.
Again, the exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all well done.
Whoa. Twi getting foalnapped was some intense stuff. And, yeah, I DID love the scenes in school before that with Moondancer and the others as they met Sunset. Of course, Sunset was actually Celestia's pupil BEFORE Twilight was, but this IS an alternate universe, so we can let that bit slide. And, yeah, I ALSO liked the inclusions of pony counterparts to EQG characters.
And, yeah, LOVED seeing Celly go into Mama Bear mode on the foalnappers as well as her wondering what to do now.
Once more, the exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up are all well done.
I'll very certainly be looking forward to more of this.

Yeah. I can definitely understand how this could happen. Kidnappings ARE a pretty trying ordeal and, even if they are successfully resolved without anyone getting seriously hurt physically, they can still make somebody a little more paranoid. All I can say to Twi's friends and family is - keep trying. She needs it badly (as well as some sort of solid proof that not all griffons are like the ones who foalnapped her).

Great job on the lessons with Twilight and Sunset as well as Sunset helping Twilight regain the courage to leave the palace grounds again. Yeah, Sunset is competitive, but, in this instance, her heart was definitely in the right places AND she made a fair number of good points.

PTSD is the worst. Twilight is probably afraid that something bad will happen every second she is outside now and she could end up like her parents.
Sunset is a master with tough love. Except in Legend of Everfree that was just bad advice. But it worked here.

My headcanons always been Celestia and Luna were Earth pony's before Alicorns. Which explains why Celestia hates high society gatherings so much. Just felt like throwing it in here since I could.
