Song reference...

Rereading this, I just realized:

"I'm gonna bet bits to bagels that you'd have spent the next who knows how long trying to find a kind of pie that she liked. We'd be right back where this all started."

That's a reference to the comics isn't it.

I can't tell if the way that reference is placed if it means you dislike the comic followup to the episode, or if you just thought it'd be funny for Soarin to bring it up.

Sorry~. I haven't read any of the comics. I thought that Soarin' (being the pie afficionado) would be the best one for the role.

10523507
Yeah, but that's actually exactly what happened in one of the comics

Yup.
Issue 59: "Pie in the Sky".

I don't know if that speaks more to how predictable Pinkie can be at times, or how well connected you are with the characters.

Well, she is my favourite pony, after all.

personally I thought pinkie overreacted to the whole pie thing. Rainbow was trying not to hurt her feelings and she kept forcing pies on her because she suspected that Rainbow didn't like pies. How is that a nice thing to do? She was particularly shoving them in Rainbow face at every turn. Once she figured out the truth she could have been disappointed then tried some other treat. Rainbow was going out of her way not to hurt her feelings because pinkie was trying to be nice and nobody wants a sad pinkie.

True. But we also know that Pinks is a serious idealist. If rainbow Dash hadn't (advertently or not) stopped her, she would have continued to presume that she liked pies, continued to push them on her as a show of friendship if nothing else, and likely would not have let it go. As much as she is my favourite pony, we all have our shortcomings.

Of course throwing a tantrum to the point where your friend is willing to eat the grossest pie ever just make it up doesn't exactly scream adult. Even kids are more mature than that. They be disappointed for a bit and then move on at least those who haven't been affected by the snowflakes who think disappointment isn't something kids should deal with.

Rainbow Dash, however, tends to go the extra five miles. She could have just -you know- apologized and explained her actions. She didn't have to torture herself to make up for her actions. But being the way she is, well...
Much as she's my second favourite pony, again, we all have our shortcomings.

But the whole gross pie happened because pinkie threw a tantrum over the fact that her friend refused to eat pies. Sulking because your friend would rather let think you are giving her something she likes than hurt you. Sure be disappointed that your gift didn't work out but Sulking to the point of your friend willing to eat a gross pie is ridiculous.
