Old things die to make room for the new. That is the way of the world. But me? I watch the world grow old.

Thanks to RoMS and ROBCakeran53 for editing.

Cover art is by me. Pencil, india ink, and watercolor on paper.

Hap I haven't even read this yet and it's making me tear up help...

Wow, some great visual storytelling going on here. I can't wait to see where this leads.

It was a privilege to edit this story. Thank you.

In the start of Chapter 5, I had an inkling of where this might be going and slightly teared up a moment just from that.

(Though, also in Chapter 5:
"trees transform soil into living wood"
Don't know if it'd be better or worse to put it in the story, but if you didn't know, you might find this interesting:

(There are a number of places explaining that I found with a quick search, but that seemed the best of them.))

...Oh, Chapter 5 is the last chapter?
Oh! I see the story's actually incomplete; I'd missed that.
...
Wait, the story's chapters say they were posed September 11th, but from the notification and the dates on the comments, the story seems to have gone up today... hm.
...Well, anyway, upvoting and Favouriting. :)

One of my fondest memories of my early time in the fandom was the excitement of waiting for a new chapter of a story I loved. So yes, I've written all the chapters, and I plan to publish them daily until it's complete. I don't know if anyone will feel the same excitement that I did, but that's my reasoning.

Ah, thanks. :)

Really love the imagery so far, and can't wait to see where it ends up!

I'm still quite enjoying this. :)

Is this supposed to be a story about twilight's tree house?

9866703

I feel spoilered.. I hadn't thought of that.

Another forest, I do suspect, though not one reaching quite all the way to you...

I wonder if the tree will become Zecoras home. A stable tree different than all the others within Everfree with a rotten core that can/should be removed...

A lot of lines here are hitting hard for how little they say. Excellent work with the imagery and comparisons here.

Decided to give this a try. Trees apparently aren't creatures of many words, so that wasn't hard to do. Pretty interesting! But what about the Tree of Harmony? That one should have been planted by now surely?

How many chapters long will this story be?

Hap

It's roughly halfway over at this point.

...Damn, I could really go for some apples wrapped in little crispy bread now. :derpytongue2:

Love the comparisons between the tree and Celestia again. Looking forward to when, I assume, Celestia will see it after Twilight comes.

My emotional state is not really nominal at the moment, but just letting you know that I'm continuing to enjoy this. :)

I'm glad to hear that!

I hope it won't be that predictable how I think it is.
It's probably the golden oaks library tree, isn't it?
So it dies anyway, *cough* Tirek.

Celestia and the tree have some connection, right?

Maybe the tree will have o body to move, talk, etc?
That would be cool and different from just following the original timeline
So it won't just die like we know it normally would

But in general cool story

Mmmm, pie.

Wow Somebrony is writing about the Life of the Oak Library. That's a new look at something else to think about I like it.Also is this going to be a sad story?

Hap

I can't promise it won't make you cry. But it's not just sad things that can make you cry.

Thank you for writing this story. :)
Not I concept I'd thought of, but I'm glad you did.

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the story.

Again, I just love the comparison between Celestia and a tree that's died inside. I'm glad that Celestia seems to be improving, however, and that the tree will hopefully see that she's better soon.

"whatever metaphor she has been laboring under"
Oh, some quite nice phrasing there. :)

Ok, I have two questions.

Firstly: Why did you write this? It seems like such a strange concept.

Secondly: What Robert Frost collection did you read? Because this is actually one of the best things I’ve ever read, love how a tree can relate to Celestia, and so accurately too. Even though I’ve never had a keen eye for metaphors, I do get this one.

But seriously, this is like one of my top 5 stories.

I'm glad you like it!

I've spent a lot of time in the woods, and trees have a story to tell if you know how to read them.

chapters get longer again I promise

A tree’s criterion for being an official town: It has to have a post office.

I guess you could say it’s an “office”-ial town.

The Library Fairy visited and they just found out. :rainbowhuh:

Oh come on, not the long chapters again... Now I'll probably fall behind on reading.

Waiting for what? I do not know. But I wait.

Waiting for Tirek?

Wonderfull story from a unique viewpoint.
And then came Tirek.....
Maybe the soul of the Oak was somehow merged with the chest of harmony and the new castle that grew for Twilight looks like a tree because of it? After all the elements of harmony normally fix all damages caused, the Oak could not be restored so it was reborn?

Overall, a beautifully told story. Thank you very much for writing it.

This story is beautiful. Such a strange concept, such a unique metaphor, and it’s all incredibly good.
