Tia, tia, tia It's almost amusing to think that you think you're being sneaky. Seriously, while there is chance you aren't FULLY dancing in the steps he wants you to; you are still dancing to his tune
Tia, have you even thought for a single moment that maybe, just maybe the reason he hoards knowledge and refuses to tell you anything is his way of protecting your subjects?
Imagine what would happen if someone like chrysalis or Tirek managed to get ahold of a power boost from a modified version of the ritual he used? Or Luna forbid someone used it to Resurrect Grogar!
Also did I just see Luna having a bit of a Crush? That’s gonna be interesting.
10074737 Oh, I think you may have hit the nail on the head.
He wants control because he believes Celestia is basically incompetent and he has found himself on a magic deathworld.
How else do you keep the peace if you are an apex predator such as a human under those conditions? Well, you become the biggest baddest thing around through any means necessary.
One of them anyway, I have another but need more info before I will speak on it. Hoping this whole Memory Dive will give me said info, will be interesting if either one was right.
Though, I am happy that the three have yet to waver! But I get this feeling that Celestia Isn’t showing the whole truth/editing out the stuff that makes her look bad, but amplifying what makes him look like a monster so we will see how long they hold out and if she turns to mind control or not.
On a side note, can you make up a list of what he has done in the way of industry/inventions/magical advancement over the years?
10076812 To quote a previous chapter I believe it was Celestia who stated "unparalleled financial clout and ties to uncountable areas of Industry." You have to keep in mind that over the span of three and a half centuries his ability to spread his influence with just the sheer amount of time available would be quite a few to say the least. But I would say the vast majority of his Innovations lie in the progression of their engineering, physics and thaumaturgical categories. I will state (now whether you classify this is a bit of a spoiler is up to you) that there was a case of foreshadowing in the investors display.
There is quite a lot that can be done with a machine that seemingly has no fuel source and yet can negate the influence of gravity. I will leave it to you to speculate the possible variations in applications such a thing would enable. I'm currently in the midst of writing the next chapter and I will admit that contained within does have quite a few references as to how he's garnered the influence and financial clout that he currently wields. A more fleshed-out explanation of areas of Industry that he's either revolutionized or created.
I expected as much, though it makes me wonder what he has done with that power. If he has so much power, both financial and political, then why hasn’t he pushed her into a corner so that she leaves him alone? If he does have his hands in so many pies he could easily grab her by her metaphorical balls and put her in a bottle influence wise.
I can think of many, many uses for a device like that! Both Military and civilian in nature!
10076851 I can state this because it has been depicted in previous chapters that she does largely leave him to his own devices at least at present if nothing other than a lack of proof. But there has since been a catalyst that has prevented her formally acceptable inaction by way of the elements." Shade has never gone after something so important. Nothing remotely approaching the Elements of Harmony and what they stand for."
True and if I were in her shoes I would look into too, but the way she is going about it will backfire and it will be her fault. She is so hung up on the fact that she thinks he is doing something bad that she can’t see that maybe, just maybe after a thousand years he has found someone (or in this case, SOMEONES) that he has found an attraction to! Maybe he has finally realized he can’t stay alone and isolated!
I highly doubt the Elements would even do anything to him anyway, they aren’t a weapon and won’t banish or purify a being that doesn’t deserve it.
Honestly I think at this point her hate and resentment against him is just for defying her for so long and she doesn’t want him to have anything that will make him happy.
Edit: if some dialogue in past chapters indicate anything, she took his adoptive parents away from him. In what way we will see, but it’s concerning none the less!
10076879 I can tell you now that the Elements of Harmony if they were to be used on shade would most definitely have an adverse effect. I believe the reason for that is because of the variable definition that is good and evil. There are very few objective evils in existence yet there are innumerable more subjective ones. Say if someone were to be asked as a thought experiment how many lives would it take for them to decide the loss of one of their loved ones would be warranted Morley. If one of your significant others were to perish by your own choice but in doing so would save the lives of many more then what would be that number?
Someone just Pawn off the answer and say they don't know others would say that the measure of life is one to one. But there are more yet out there that would say perhaps 10 a hundred a thousand even ten thousand but they would in the end see a moral quandary to such a point where they would make that kind of decision. Would it then be considered evil from those varying perspectives that if a person were asked the same question and they would with absolute certainty and resolution say none. Entire species the lives that make up entire continents could perish and they would never sacrifice a single soul they cared for.
That no matter the number and how evil the ACT would then be defined by those that thereafter perished and their family and friends that that loss would have bearing on would then define as evil. What would be the judgment of The Elements of Harmony if they were to be used on such an individual.
While true, good and evil are subjective to morality and the individual, it still places doubts on if they would work on him. This comes more from canon sources in the show, if the Elements acted on Subjective good and evil they would have killed Luna instead of banishing her to the moon for a thousand years or they would have given a much harsher punishment to Discord or they would have killed Tirek, Chrysalis and What’s her face (can’t be bothered thinking of her name) but they didn’t.
I don’t think the elements as a whole care about good or evil, but what in the heart and soul drives the persons actions. Say for example: you have to make the choice of pushing a child out of the way of a bus but in doing so you die and so do the two dozen people on the bus due to the driver swerving out of the way and rolling the bus, but if you don’t the child dies and the the people on the bus do to regardless.
Your heart and soul is telling you to save the child, even if it’s a near lose/lose situation and people still die but at the same time at least one still lives. You followed your heart and the Elements (and Harmony) then have to judge if you were right to follow your heart in a situation where there was no good or evil.
One quote comes to mind, said by Voldemort to Harry Potter: “There is no good and evil, there is only power and those to weak to seek it”
The MC seeks power not for the SAKE of power, But for the SAKE of protection from those who want to see him loose everything, like Celestia.
10077441 Counterpoint, the Kingpin of an organization (criminal by its nature) has sought such a position of power not for power sake but for the potential of what it represents. Taking the position so that himself, his family and those he cares for are out of their area of influence. Possessing that kind of influence and sway over their number would enable (such a loose of a definition as morale is) a moral man to prevent actions such as unnecessary violence and murder.
But at the same time what he would define by arbitrary definition to be necessary evils yet the recognition of the presence of evil, as was, is and will be. "Evil will always exist and it might as well have a direction." The elective to be in a position to control such a thing would have certain implications in moral stance of the man who chose that route. I think it poses a situation in which would be more close to your bus analogy, in that he ignores the bus as well as the child as he goes to buy an ice cream for Pinkie.
Counterpoint, a doctor in a hospital that is being overrun by a rare infectious disease, he has to prioritize patients by ability to save but in doing so he condemns many to death; men, women AND children. But by prioritizing he can save one in four of those infected, does this make him evil? Does this make him good? How can the Elements judge him in n a no win situation? To condemn him as evil would be a slap to the face of all those he saved, but to judge him as good would be a slap to the face of all those family’s of the people he let die.
Again, the elements would have to judge his actions by what is in his heart.
Then how would they then resolve the disparity of a clearly set stance of default moral ambiguity (a parameter set by yourself in regards to the elements) and the history that is shown at best a cold calculating mind and at worst "An extreme and vindictive disdain for those who had tried to control him." You've prefaced a no-win scenario which is itself a perfect representation of the decision-making process given no variation in biases or other such variables. But has his history been so neat and tidy, has history ever been so? Rarely if ever does anything function in a vacuum, at least in practice. Theoretics and philosophy aside.
10080940 No prob.....and plz dont call me sir.....im nowhere near that old yet....25 this yr lol.....ill try to help out where i can.....good story so far though.....a little odd w the hard scifi turning into more of a dark fantasy rpg type feel but not confusing at least to me
10081104 If I may ask a favor, only of course if you can spare the time. Don't feel pressured to get to it now, at any point in the future would be much appreciated. Could you tell me your thoughts and opinions? Specifically pertaining to the transition from what you labeled as "hard sci-fi" into a more "Dark Fantasy RPG" type feel. Although I'm glad that the vast majority of readers enjoy my story, I have yet to get any feedback in regards to the specifics of how it registers in their own minds and I would like a second opinion if it all possible.
10081114 Sorry bout that.....i got one story crossed w another......i am soooo ashamed.....it wasnt till i was looking at my library that i realized that
Your story kinda made me do a double take when it went from celestia flashbacking bout the necromancer to the scene in the throne room....but other then some typos the only thing that i think could use some work is breaking up those some of those paragraphs.....but its not a necessity.
Again im sorry for the confusion earlier.....im actually surprised it doesnt happen that often to begin w....bc im always reading at least 3 stories concurrently
10081127 You needn't worry, such things are bound to happen given your situation. Again you have my sincerest thanks. Should you find yourself in need of something that I may be able to provide, then please don't hesitate to ask.
Tia, tia, tia It's almost amusing to think that you think you're being sneaky.
Seriously, while there is chance you aren't FULLY dancing in the steps he wants you to; you are still dancing to his tune
Celestia, your control freak nature is showing(And I'm not referring to the flashback).
Tia, have you even thought for a single moment that maybe, just maybe the reason he hoards knowledge and refuses to tell you anything is his way of protecting your subjects?

I love it, it keeps the mystery, it is not known if it is good or bad or if Celestia for fear condemned it, in any case the story so far is incredible
10076020
That is quite the compliment, you have my thanks.
10075342
I'm glad you like the story so far, I hope I can continue to peak your interest.

An interesting hypothesis, we will have to see. I am thankful you are enjoying the story so far.
