Everything is awesome!

E

One is the fabled Mare in the Moon, who once threatened to cover Equestria in eternal night. One is the deposed Queen of the once-terrifying Changeling race. These two beings have cast long shadows over the history of ponykind, but never before have they done battle with one another. Who would come out as the victor? Well, this is a question that is on the minds of some of Ponyville's most enthusiastic debaters.

Celestia could potentially take Nightmare Moon in a fight, if the fact that the Sombra Timeline was a thing is any indication (but it's not a guaranteed win, because she did lose in the Nightmare Moon timeline; this does raise the tragic possibility Celestia had to kill her own sister in at least one timeline though). But the conclusion is nonetheless valid: Chrysalis is noticeably weaker than Twilight when she isn't temporarily boosted from love gathered, personally and/or via her hive (which she lost), so she's weaker than Nightmare Moon (not to say Chrysalis is small fry in the grand scheme of things, because she's still strong).

Tirek is indeed a tricky question. Since he's intelligent, if he can avoid it, he's probably the type to stay the hell away from you until he's sure he can win in some sort of confrontation, and he did have bargaining chips before confronting Twilight. The only real hope you have to win against him from a strategic standpoint is actively trying to find him before it's too late (which if you're Nightmare Moon, you might have hope on that one, because dreamwalking helps). From a tactical perspective, an explicit weakness he might have is that since he can only absorb magic from living beings, having say, the Alicorn Amulet on might be worth it, if it can help you beat him.

I'm inclined to think 1st form Tirek, hell no, 2nd form, he might need to get lucky, and his 3rd form is where he definitely gets good chances (there is probably some nuance though, in the form progression), 4th is a slamdunk.

(I do appreciate Tirek as a character, in that while he does indeed like having strength, have a lot of willingness to use brute force, whether it's magical or physical [he rammed Twilight through a mountain], he's quite intelligent too)

Great story. Love the kiddy interactions and how the characters basically rewrite the fight in between
Very unique and fitting.

I personally think this is a little skewed, as you talk about a fight depending on what stage Tirek is at in magic absorbtion, I fail to see how that would be any different to Chrysalis and her love absorption. I think the answer changes depending on how much love she has absorbed, as it would with Tirek.

Not only that, but Chrysalis a shapeshifter, and can use different forms to her advantage

After reading this, all I can think about is this scene from 'Angel'...

So true! Good story!:moustache:

It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!

Not really their purview. They always take two different franchises and throw them at each other. Also this would have taken longer as there would have been several paragraphs comparing measurements of beams and dust clouds trying to figure out what measurements of TNT to compare it to.

I like this story. Please consider continuing this debate with the CMC and Spike.

"Doesn't matter. Whoever wins will be too weak to do anything when *I* jump her."
—Princess Celestia, possibly, or the old Sunset Shimmer, certainly

I found the narration quite minimalist, though I don't think it's to the point of looking simplistic as well. Either way, it didn't detract from the story, and even fit the characters and context; that being children having fun 'debating' who would win in a fight.

The quotation marks are here for a reason. Spike killed me with his "then we have to conclude" line. Though credit where it's due; Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle bring up a good point about remaining in character (with Sweetie's comment being more astute, keeping to the spirit of a duel—she wasn't motivated by proving Spike wrong, after all.)

Seeing as the challengers in question are Nightmare Moon and Chrysalis, however, I did find the imagined battle not to be anywhere near grandiose, bombastic and hammy enough. Oh yes, it certainly wasn't hammy enough for my liking.

Not that I'm able to write anything hammy myself, mind. And let me stress the last three words: "for my liking." My opinion is neither a fact nor an order.

Going back to the narration, I was pleased to see constructs like "the children" or "the fillies" kept to a minimum. "their draconic friend" did stick out like a sore thumb though, since 'him' or 'Spike' would have been enough. 'him' would have been downright practical here, Spike being the only male in the story; these constructs are only necessary when there can be confusion about whom the narration is talking about, such as when everyone involved is of the same gender—something that happens a lot in Friendship is Magic.

It was also strange to see Spike basically quote the episode's name, including capital letters at that, when he referred to Shining Armor and Cadence's wedding. Especially that the four of them were there in the first place. It's also the only royal wedding we're aware of, so I see no reason for Spike not to call it such. "at that Canterlot Wedding fight" could even be reworded to 'during that wedding,' seeing as the readers—along with Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo—know precisely which fight he's talking about.

Despite this criticism, I did enjoy the story. And while I'm not as familiar with Spike as I should be and even less familiar with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, they struck me as very in character in this.

Finally, I found two typos;

They stare at one another

stared

their great might would be turned on one anther

another

This was fun. Just some kids debating which bad guy could beat up who. XD

"And Celestia is weaker than Nightmare Moon!"

incorrect but alr
