It's been about a month since Spike went through his molt, and both he and Twilight are still getting used to his newly sprouted wings. Needless to say, the development has brought on quite a few changes; some deliberate, others... not so much.

Of course, with new circumstances come new opportunities. Spike's wings let him fly, obviously, but there's one thing in particular he'd like to learn to do with them. And the lesson starts with one simple question for Twilight:

"Could you teach me how to give a wing-hug?"

mother and son love

"Y-Yeah." Twilight dissipated the lavender aura around her horn and took a deep breath to steady herself. "She's been really, really interested in how Silverstream's been doing at the School. Which makes perfect sense, seeing as she's Novo's niece, and that Novo still doesn't really trust me after I messed up in Seaquestria, and that it's a miracle she even—"

Since it's not the name of the school. I think it needs to be lowercased... The rest of the fiction seems pretty good.

A very sweet tale, thanks for sharing!:moustache:

This was absolutly adorable.

That was absolutely adorable!

Spike pit-click pat-clacked over to Twilight's side.

How the hell do you make footsteps cute?!

This is the kind of wholesome, high-quality, Spike/Twilight Bonding content that keeps me coming back to this site all these years later. This was truly sweet and heart-warming. I always love it when the characters acknowledge that Spike will one day be a grown dragon, and that he likely has some anxiety over it. You really nailed the cadence of both Twilight and Spike's speaking patterns.

So yeah, highly enjoyed this one, and I'll be recommending it to my friends. Great job, author!!

Lots of authors when they do adorable stories seem to miss weaving at least a little tension to keep the story interesting beyond "snuggles and wuv." Glad you know to keep that through-line going.

This is adorably sweet. My poor heart can’t take it.

You know, wing-hugs were never drew attention on in the show. It was always there, but it was never focused on. So I’m glad someone finally made a story on it.

Aww this was so sweet!

Very sweet and adorable. Thank you for letting me take a peek at it whilst it was in the oven. As I said before, the 2nd half is really nice and greatly improves upon the first half.
Thank you for writing this

:raritystarry: Oh!
:moustache: You like?
:raritywink: Quite Precious Scales...
:moustache: Twilight taught me
:duck: She did well
:facehoof: Sly dragon
:rainbowlaugh: Spike flies like a chad too

This is so wholesome to see

Realizing that this story will about what is (in my opinion) one of the most adorable tropes in a fandom built around cuteness made me seriously consider breaking my rule about not liking a story until reading it.
But I stayed strong! And now I could give it a like:raritywink:

Cuteness level over 10,000!:pinkiehappy:

What, you expected a see "over 9,000" again?

It's been over three weeks, the dust has settled, and I'm back into the swing of things, so as per tradition, I figured I'd finally reply to all the comments I've gotten. Wall of text incoming!

That's certainly one way to look at it!

11335143
Yeah, probably. I was thinking of it as a shortening of "School of Friendship" (which, as far as I'm aware, is generally displayed as a proper noun), but I perfectly see the case you're making. I'll see about reverting it to lowercase.

Thank you for reading it!

11335159
Funnily enough, you two said the exact same thing back-to-back. I'm absolutely glad you both enjoyed it!

Thank you!

Behold, my secret!

…At least, that was the case back in 2019. I put a bit more thought into everything once I revisited what I'd already written, but when it comes down to it, that whole segment snowballed from the singular impulsive thought, "Maybe it'd be kinda funny if this story started with Spike accidentally sneaking up on Twilight." :P

I've mentioned this in the past, but those "Spike/Twilight Bonding" stories were a large part of what sucked me into this fandom in the first place, and, well, a lot of the people who wrote them aren't around to write them anymore. I'm not sure if I have the endurance or literary chops to carry the torch myself, but the least I can do is drag that torch a further fifteen yards downfield, y'know what I mean?

Thanks for the high praise and the recommendations!

Happy to hear that the "through-line" worked as well as it did. Admittedly, it took me a little while to see that tension as a feature and not a bug, but I came around on it eventually and I'm glad that I did. Besides just being good for the story, having that target to aim at almost certainly spared the whole process from a lot of errant dawdling.

Thanks again for agreeing to proofread this on such short notice!

Not that they really needed to IMO. It was just a thing the writers/animators/whoever decided to throw in for the sake of padding out the worldbuilding. I've always associated it more with fanart than anything, to be honest.

Either way, it made for an interesting premise and I enjoyed writing it out. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it!

The 2nd half is really nice and greatly improves upon the first half.

Y'know, between this and your review of Gone With the Light, I'm starting to see a pattern. :P

In all seriousness, you're absolutely right. I think my writing's always had an air of genericism to one extent or another, so I certainly have a lot more "beard-growing" to do. Rest assured, I'm working on it!

Thank you for writing this

And thank you for "taking a peek" at it!

11336124
Hey, you commented on my first fanfic way back when. Nice to see you again, self-proclaimed master of disaster!

11336190
I appreciate you staying strong; judging a book by its cover goes both ways, after all. Happy to hear you enjoyed the story all the same!

11338016
Nah, didn't pick up on it until you pointed it out. "10,000" doesn't really have the same memetic connotations as "9,000", y'know what I mean? Sorry.
:twilightsheepish:

Happy to hear you enjoyed the story!

One more time for the road: thanks again, everybody!
