Nothing special here, move along, nothing to see, just ignore the lump under the sheet and the red stuff...

Princess Twilight Sparkle gives her student Sweetie Belle an assignment to write a letter to her friend, Scootaloo.

Tied for second place in the Everfree NorthWest 2019 Iron Author competition with Aquaman's The Sum of Our Parts. Set several years after the series end, as per the prompt.

First comment for the author. The EFNW 2019 prompt was

Focus on a minor/side character from the show who has been the focus of an episode
NOT any of the mane six or a princess!
NOT fandom characters (like Berry Punch or Derpy)
Should be featured in an episode
Be set 10 or more years in the future

For those of you who don't know, Iron Author is a competition at Everfree NorthWest where you get tossed a prompt, given two hours to write on it, and a team of judges proceed (with pizza and plenty of Pepsi) to take most of the evening to figure out which one of the awesome authors in the competition is the awesomest. Last year, I fireballed hard in the contest, and might have eeked out last place. Seriously, it was bad. This year, I managed to get an hour and a half of writing in one long burst, top to bottom, with a half-hour burnt in struggling with technology. I didn't think I had placed, because the authors in the contest are really, really good. However, to my shock, I tied for second place with Aquaman (out to about three decimal places in the scores).

They wanted me to read it out loud for the room. I had Xepher read it for me, because I would have broken down into sniffles in the middle and had to pass it off anyway. If anybody recorded that, let me know. I was still in too much shock.

So without any further blathering from me, enjoy!

Another wonderful story from a talented author. Congrats, Georg!

Wow, just wow.

Damn, Georg. That was beautiful. Not surprised at all that this placed so high.
But I am curious: what did Sweetie Belle do to earn her ascension? I'm not saying she didn't deserve it, I'd just like to know. And what happened to Scoots?
Obviously you won't tell us, but it never hurts to ask. :raritywink::scootangel:

Damnit Georg, now I'm leaking from my face. Do you know how hard it is to get this plugged back up again!?!?:applecry:

Oof. Very nice stuff, and congrats on the high spot.

Thank you. This is beautiful.

Damn. Suckerpunch right to the feels. I should have seen that coming.

This really got me in the feels too. Great story.

*reads the last three paragraphs*

Wait, what?

*reads them again*

Huh. How did that happen?

Hap

Glad to see this hit the feature box! It's good.

Umm ... ?

I had to read this twice. So the CMC is now split up forever, one lost somewhere in time, and another ascended, and Applebloom ... is still messing up potions?

It sure sounds like this is a post-hogwarts group of CMC (between the reference to bonus points and dorms ... it just sounds like what happens over there, and if there's going to be some sort of crazy time shenanigans, that sounds like where it would happen.)

I think the point with snippets, little lookie-loos like this, isn't to know. But just to experience. Not a lot of authors these days can pull it off, but back in the old days of the fandom we had more of this sort.

Well done. Absolutely deserved to place in Iron Author.

Oh, of course. And Georg always pulls things like this off very well. But when that's the case—especially when you know for a fact the author has an incredible creative mind—can you blame the reader for wanting to know more? :trixieshiftright:

Oh man, when I realized she was writing to her friend because she had DIED, it jolted me hard. I didnt expect the princess bit at the end though. That actually kinda threw me; obviously wherever Scoots is, she was still young when she left (or died) since Applebloom is still around and dating Featherweight. So its not a case of an ageless princess outliving her friend (yet). And Sweetie talks likes she knows SHE will also grow up like her friends... I dont know, that was the only part of the story I couldnt quite grab onto, the “and princesses do this forever?” line. Wouldnt mind a little bit more clarity on that prt. But overall the story was very good with excellent emotion. Great job, esp for writing it in less than two hours!

" Hey look! Georg popped up a story! Happy day!"
Read read read.

Here I thought I kept the tissues on my desk for my allergies.

Sorry to say I didn't record the results, but you did look quote shocked whej asked to come up.

In any case, excellent stuff. Congrats on the much deserved medal and thank you very much for an excellent snapshot of a strange and not entirely unpleasant future.

Oh jings, this is powerful, lovely stuff. It deserved its high ranking and then some. Good work, Georg.

Oh, crivvens.

Thank you for this story. Even though it was sad, and yes made me cry (seems to happen to me a lot here.)
There's nothing more I can add. Thank you again.
