Well, this is looking like it's going to be a lot of fun, and it gave me a really silly idea. It would have been hilarious if you had shipped Rainbow and Trixie earlier before throwing Rainbow into the Lunaverse. She then bumps into that Trixie without realizing the difference, and greets her with a deep kiss. Considering that Trixie's reaction to anything sexual, the resulting fireworks would have fantastic. :rainbowlaugh:

I DO love the Lunaverse, and am planning to maybe reference other AU fics in here....buuuuut rainbow and trixie are just friends XP plus this trixie would be WAYYY too timid for a romantic relationship with anyone right now.

Agreed. It was just a funny idea I had to share because that Trixie's reaction would be hilarious.

As for your Trixie, I think it would be good to do a story where she spends some vacation time with Rainbow. Above and beyond the fact that they're both adorable and Rainbow's reaction to learning Trixie writes the books she loves will be a great character building moment for both of them. I'm thinking that will work best if Trixie sees her book, comments in an unsure way because of her insecurities without saying she's the author, Rainbow misinterprets that as criticism and aggressively defends the book, and Trixie gets emotionally overwhelmed when she sees what her work means to Rainbow which is when Rainbow learns Trixie is the author.

Shipping can come later. :raritystarry:

Agreed.

That said, I've always wondered why I never saw more of that paring because it seems obvious. Canon Rainbow and Trixie are very similar (depending on interpretation of Trixie) so they can obviously relate to each other well, and the fact that their skills are in radically different areas means their egos won't get in the way which is an obvious challenge for them.

I think it would also work also work in this setting if you wanted to go that rout once Rainbow builds Trixie's self-esteem some, but there's no real need to do so.

I did read a fic that paired them togetehr, jsut don't remember what it was called...

There are a handful, but they're few and far between which I find very strange because it seems like a much more sensible pairing than the far more common Trixie and Twilight.

9704204
trixie and twilight pairings are more common because 1) foe yay and 2) we didn't have a deluge of 'evil counterparts' for twilight back in the day and 3) people saw chemistry even in their first appearance where they barely interacted

The thing is, there really wasn't much parallel between them besides the fact that they are both unicorns and focus on magic. Everything else about who Trixie is and what she does matches much more closely to Rainbow than Twilight, so if anything Trixie is more Rainbow's foil than Twilight's.

As for the foe yay, that really doesn't really make sense because Twilight was actually very respectful to Trixie and refused to do anything that could cause problems for her in spite of significant peer pressure to do so. From Trixie's perspective, Snips and Snails were the biggest problem, while Rainbow, Rarity, Applejack, and Spike all worked to sabotage her show and make things worse. On the other hand, Twilight refused to cause problems, gave Trixie as much space as she needed to try to beat the Ursa, and then stepped in to save her life at the last minute, all of which made things better for Trixie. If anything, Trixie should have thanked Twilight and been angry with the others in her reappearance, and I strongly suspect that fundamental problem is why Faust's quality control prevented Trixie from reappearing in season 2 as originally planned and why McCarthy gave us the nonsensical Magic Duel in season 3.

Also, for the record, I gave up watching regularly in mid season 4 and the last episode I saw was mid season 5 so I'm 100% talking from Trixie's first appearance for everything.

Well, I don't have a lot to say about this chapter since it's just setup. Admittedly there is a part of me that's worried you're going to take the common misreading of canon Rainbow's character and make her an idiot because she seemed too slow on the uptake here, but based on your work with your AU of Rainbow I'm more inclined to believe that was an accident since you obviously know Rainbow is very smart.

my interpretation is that Rainbow is not DUMB, but is quick to make assumptions i.e. her immediately becoming kinda suspscious of Twilight knowing who Nightmare Moon was in the first episode (if memory serves well, of course) and can let her anger cloud her judgement. Plus the general situation is quite confusing and strange in general so it messes with everyone's expectations.

Hopefully I can do a good job portraying the canon characters but we'll see, it's kinda soemthing I've beeen a little nervous about >.>

While it's certainly fair to say she can jump in without thinking and is reluctant to admit she's wrong, you definitely misread (or misremembered) her at least a little. Accusing Twilight of being a spy doesn't fit as a random assumption and isn't obvious at first glance, but it does actually make logical sense from the limited information available so it's actually a perfect example of Rainbow's intelligence in action, especially considering the time and pressure involved. Unfortunately my memory's a little fuzzy at this point so I'll probably screw up the details if I try, but the gist of it is that they have nothing but Twilight's own word about why she's there, she has knowledge of what's going on, no one else had any idea it was a thing at all, and Rainbow's limited interaction with Twilight didn't really paint her as personally caring about the holiday going well.

All in all, I'd recommend re-watching seasons 1 and 2 and focusing on Rainbow, Twilight, and possibly Rarity to refocus their characters in your mind because they were all butchered as soon as Faust got the boot and the people who cared have largely left the fandom as a result.

Ok, now that I've reread this to refresh my memory, I can comment on the new chapter. On the one hand, you do seem to be handling the canon characters reasonably well so far (it's still too early to say for sure), and your use of Rotten to bring up the legitimate failures of post-Faust MLP seems like it has a lot of potential to create interesting ripples down the line.

On the other hand, the ending was a total disaster because handing the remaining Elements over to the obvious trap was absolutely, unjustifiably idiotic. I think you really need to sit down and give that some thought because I don't think it can be allowed to stand as is. The easiest solution is probably outright deletion because it doesn't seem to add much and having half the Elements isn't meaningfully different from having none, or you could subvert the obvious trap by having Pinkie declare she knows just the pony and disappearing with them to set up a humorous endgame reveal.

well damn. sorry I keep letting you down :c

edit: changed it a bit. dunno if it's better.

Well, it works somewhat better as a single point of idiocy, although there are still serious issues. The big two are if this moment of idiocy fits with your Rarity's established character (I think it's at least close enough to reasonable, although my memory is a bit fuzzy), and why the others didn't stop her, especially Pinkamena who seems like she should have been able to grab her own Element to keep Rarity from taking it. Thus, I think you should take some time to think about what you're trying to accomplish overall and see if you can come up with a workable alternative, and if there's really no alternative you could accept this as a minor plot hole and move on.
