I saw a video that determines that ponies are roughly 3 to 3.5 feet tall, based on the eight foot candy-cane in the Hearth's Warming episode. That's if the show is consistent in it's measurements, though, when it usually isn't.
Have you ever noticed that, by the show's character designs, a pony's head is actually bigger than its entire torso?
In your own head or story, you can change the shape of a pony's body or even it's size however you want, but you should always try to mention that in the story for perspective, especially if you decide that My Ponies aren't Little anymore.
This isn't a criticism, by the way. In my own head, your average mare is 3'6" at the top of the head and weighs about 110-140 lb. And also has a longer front-to-back body and a smaller head, a bit closer to actual horses. Were I to ever make a HiE story, the human would have to say how the body shape differs from the show.

Several theories exist but overall ponies are more or less between 3 feet tall at the shoulder give or take and upto a human's hip.
There was an episode that had a 8 foot tall candy cane with a pony (Scootaloo) standing by it giving us an approximate hight as well as a few comparasions between Fluttershy from Ponyland and EQG compared to Angle Bunny who exists in both.
Ponies are extremely small though.
