Congrats! You get a like.

Interesting. So what regiment is he with? He's not a Krieger, or there would have been significantly more use made of entrenching tools.

‘We have enough work to do without rebuilding barns all day’

Oh just wait 'till you get to excavating the wreckage, you'll have plenty to do then!

With her help, she knew he would fit in alright here in Equestria.

I'm sure it'll be just fine. 'tis not like there's a bunch of unrestrained psykers running around or anything!

9619431
From his perspective entire Equestria is a bunch of overpowered xeno psykers :P

9619480

Good thing he's not a Krieger then, that bunch aren't exactly known for their tolerance of the alien. Though I wonder what Rarity would think of their fashion sense?

No one does trench coats and gasmasks like the Death Corps of Krieg.

well he is not Cadian because dropping ones weapon is a capital offense and he would be executed by commisar if found out. Like explained at "Cadia stands" book. And what ever that red robed thing was, because you never explained if it was a mutant, cultist or some one from machine cult. But still 3 las shot would take anything like that down because las shot are very powerful. And how could one with a helmet stumble to a rock if he has a helmet on his head. And he cannot be regular trooper because he has las carbine and las pistol. Only officers would have pistols sou it makes him panicking even less believable.

I'm not wh40k nerd (I have a complex love-hate relationship with that universe) But his description sounds like Astra Guard Trooper. Not the drop troops though or he's missing the jetpacks.
Laspistols issued with specialists too, but then, what is his specialty, if he's armed with las rifle? Elysian Drop troopers, they are considered specialist units. So, did he lost his equipment?

9620200
Funny that you said that because one of my favorite story wise is sergeant Zachariah ho is from Elysia, because i have bought 3 audio dramas called "martyrs of Elysia" "renegades of Elysia" "scions of Elysia". But i dont think he is Elysian because description of his lasrifle switch is sounds nothing like Elysian bullpup lasrifle.

9620200

I think we may be overthinking this. I think what we have here is a "guardsman", equipped along modern sensibilities, i.e., rifle, sidearm, grenade or two, etc.

Yes, that's what Astra guards are. Their combat dogmas were modelled after Old Terra. Those colors and style of equipment is theirs. Also they have analog of paradrop units, air cavalry and traditional (to us) armor and armored carrier support. Their usual sidearm are slug throwers types though, las pistols are issued for officer and specialist units only ( which includes mechanized and airborne)

9620296
Quick search had found entire poster of their equipment, which includes normal astra militarium equipment. They range from varieties of las guns, plasma and even meltas to very curious variants for niche use. Las carabines are for QCC I suppose.

9621162

Might just be a touch of ignorance, I was unaware that las pistols were an uncommon thing, as far as I knew the guard didn't use slug throwers anymore. (outside of shotguns and such of course)

9621184
also stubguns and macro-cannons?

9621197

Well a macro-cannon is hardly a standard-issue guard weapon. As to stubguns, I knew what they were if not what they were called.

Really, it's amazing how much Warhammer lore one my acquire without ever actually reading the books or playing the games.

9621197
To give laspistols to every guardsman would be incredible waste of resource, they are not expected to live long enough to lose their lasgun but live long enough to take one from fallen ones. What comes to specialized weapons like plasmas or meltas, thous are rare weapons and very expensive sou there is not many of them. And what comes to macro turrets thous are used in ships or as planatary defence turrets. Stubbers are mostly given to PDF troops because they are cheap and easy to make but are not anywhere near as powerful as lasguns. Guard regiment do not have combined warfare doctrine like you said. There as only infantry regiments, armored regiments, artillery regiments, or specialized like jump trooper regiment. There are no combined ones because of Horus heresy when after imperial army was split and its forces went radical change to insure that such rebellion would not happen again.
and what comes to thous carbines for only used in QCC like you said are not because of that, they are light to carry and very small switch are perfect to jump troops.

maybe we have different sources... or source from different eras of wh40k. And I mean franchise real life era, not the timeline era, I stopped to follow franchise in late 90s.

about combined arms types, there siege regiment and rearguard regiment that employ it to degree. Elysian Drop Troops employ one as well at times. Stubbers, yes they are cheap and mostly pushed out if use, except HMGs, at least it was so in my era. I agree with sentiment of laspistols, thatvs exact reason why they are limited to officers and specialists who's main armament is unsuitable for CQC. Same reason is why Han Solo's blaster pistol ( the most powerful blaster pistol in Galaxy) isn't main sidearm for Imperial stormtroopers, it uses same scheme and costs just as much as blaster carabine issued for troops by same manufacturer.

well i do use my sources 8th edition astra militarum codex ( even thou i dont own a single guard unit) and let me open by black library - my dowloads.
Dead Men Walking,Down Amongst the Dead Men,Rebel Winter,Cadia Stands,Renegades of Elysia,Caves of Ice,For The Emperor,Death or Glory,The Traitor's Hand,Cain's Last Stand,Duty Calls,The Last Ditch,The Emperor's Finest,The Greater Good,Shadowsword,Fellguard Part 1: The Siege of Fellguard (eBook),Fellguard Part 2: The Hour of Hell (eBook),Baphomet by Night,The Trophy (eBook),Martyrs of Elysia,Choke Point,Ciaphas Cain: Choose Your Enemies,Judge of the Wastes,Censure,Fire and Thunder,Sand Lords,Forges of Mars,Book 45: Tallarn (MP3).
Thous are books that are mainly about astra militarum, sou i dont know what source material you are using. Of course there are books that i have not thru yet sou you have book that tells other wise i would be happy to go over it.

There are mixed signals about that. While it's clead no PDF can be viable without combined arm, lack of actual military background or knowledge of supporting book franchise resulted in gaps on . on one side, kriegers and techguards are rather integrated, astra mostly shown as specialized infantry. On ither hand, quoting description:

It is comprised of countless billions of men and women -- hundreds of thousands of different regiments, supported by a vast array of light and heavy armoured vehicles that provide the Guard's primary offensive punch. The Astra Militarum are usually the first Imperial force to respond to a threat if a world's Planetary Defence Force (PDF) fails to suppress it. They also garrison major locations of strategic or cultural interest to the Imperium and are often found in defensive roles. Supported by legions of heavy armour and thundering artillery, the Imperial Guard fight a never-ending war for the survival of Mankind in an unrelentingly hostile universe.

Bingo, specialized infantry stopped be viable in first half of 20th century. Having billions of las-wielding troops without advanced doctrine and heavy support and ability to commission and use any available resources to defend their ZOC - it's not just oversight or tactical approach, it's a huge strategical error and resource mismanagement. Rules do allow to have combined groups, it's just writing is horrible, on par with Rei's fencing skills. Why description and actual xodex are so different, is a mystery.

As I played in group players with military background, any kind of concept that Great War infantrt is best answer to invasion would have met with laugh and jibs regarding intellectual capability of defender.

there was that hope on Guilliman reforming the franchise management, making those descriptions of Astra Militarium matching the codex and dogma for future books, but currently it appears that GW tries to dumb down and flatten it further. We risk end with child-friendly franchise and plain cavalryg-infantry-tanks cathegories of pre-WWII era.

9622335
well there is no talk or theories that Guilliman would change whole structure of astra militarum. For i think that they are unique on their own, they are numerous, they are unforgiving and powerful, they are emperors hammer to struck down with massive force of arms.

An Imperial cult in Equestria?
Hmm, I'm interested.

“He comes from a world called Holy Terra,”

well he cannot be from lucifer blacks, they don't take such cowards to their ranks. So does not palatine sentinel regiment because they can fight deamons without batting a eye. Sou he must be from some PDF conscript.

The tension in the air snapped as loudly as Levin’s weapon did. Like a lightning bolt, a perfectly straight and blinding projectile discharged from the barrel and struck the ground just inches from Applewhite’s feet.

wait he has feet? is he a mutant? No wonder he wanted to kill him.

A couple of twists... joke about charging lasgun battery in campfire becoming real deal... crazy pony names of crazy ponies..

This world is crazy

it is possible to charge lasguns magazines battery but it is extremely dangerous.

were short of supplies there, too. Power packs recharge if you leave them out in sunlight.’

‘There isn’t any sunlight,’ Cully hissed at him. ‘There isn’t going to be any sunlight, not here. Not ever.’

‘Maybe not,’ Rachain said, ‘but I remember something those Catachans told us. If you’re really stuck, and I’d say we are, you can get some charge back in a power pack by cooking it in a camp fire.’

Cully nodded slowly. He remembered that too, now that the sergeant mentioned it.

‘Where’s it safe to light a fire, where it won’t be seen?’

‘In there, I reckon,’ Rachain said, nodding towards the hulking ruin of the manufactory. He laughed hollowly. ‘We’ve already cleared it out once, after all.’

Cully nodded. He waved the squad up, and together they crept into the building and swept it with their lights. It was empty. He detailed Limardi and Bonsell to building a fire, using the discarded packing foam and sacking that littered the place as fuel. It stank but it caught well enough, and was soon a crackling blaze in the middle of the blackened rockcrete floor.

‘We’ll just do one first, see if it works,’ Rachain said.

He took Morran’s lasgun and ejected the almost-spent power pack, and set it carefully at the edge of the fire. They settled down to wait, huddling around the blaze to warm themselves. Cully was starving but he was at least warm for the first time in days, and he felt himself beginning to doze.

The concussive shock of the explosion threw him onto his side, probably the only thing that saved him from the shrapnel that flew over his head and shredded Trooper Leehan where he sat.

Cully lay prone, his almost empty lasgun tracking in the dark, looking for an enemy who wasn’t there.

‘The power pack,’ Kallek said, her voice sounding flat and dead as she stared at what was left of Leehan. ‘It blew up.’

from the book "Baphomet by Night"

Heh, written in 2018.
Yeah, explanation makes at least limited sense, though original joke was that Mechanicus Acolytes would say that someone is "dumb enough to charge lasgun battery in fire".

Realistically, if that's possible, then chargin battery by putting it under sun yields more (if still miniscle, about 5-6 watts) energy. Thing is fire causes heat, and most photosensitive materials have limit of how much heat they can stand, Of course, if one doesn't have acccess to sun, then...

9682429
ou yea, charging a battery by using sun light to create a beam that powerful, would not give frak all many shots to make it worth while.

I this story but Fluttershy wouldn't do the stare so soon. she would most like let him built a fire a safe distance from every thing or would just built one up for him so he can do what he like without annoying any one. Also you got to add this

somewhere.

The rear of the object hit the ground first and it discharged a projectile into the afternoon sky. It went wide right, but Fluttershy could still feel the heat emitted off of whatever it fired. She did not let the loud emission or heat distract her from the task at hand. She had to assert her dominance over the stubborn beast and only by properly breaking his will to resist could Fluttershy do it.

Sigh Typical unbeatable stare cliche. Never had to drop a story so fast and here it's even worse as she managed to ignore getting barely hit by a laser weapon that actually affected her.
